5:20 Apparently this scene is loosely based on a real life interaction that Ryan Gosling had when he was still trying to make it in the industry. In the middle of an audition, he was emotional and tears for a scene, but the casting director took a phone call in the middle of the audition.

Loved your passionate reaction. I am in the scene where she puts on her show to a tiny bored audience. I’m the guy clapping in the back. I agree that the movie really picks up in the second half and the ending is powerful. I’m not sure you’re aware but this movie was announced as the winner of the Oscar for best picture only to have that award reversed a minute later after it was discovered the announcer read the wrong card and the Oscar was then given to the actual winner that year “Moonlight.” Maybe you two should react to that movie next and decide which one actually deserved the award.

Like 20 minutes into this reaction the brother (sorry, I don't know your names) says, "I love art." How perfect is that? What I love about this movie is that, not only is it clearly a love letter to musicals of the past, but it's also clearly a love letter to the arts in general. And that entire theme is beautifully summed up by the lyrics to Emma Stone's singing audition. This movie is incredibly sad and utterly beautiful and totally joyous. Oh, and Ryan Gosling learned to play piano for this movie, and the director said that they never used a double for any of his playing - it was all him. Bonkers.

One of my favs. My friends don't like it as much as I do. "Can we not watch this again?" The 10 seconds of Emma dancing, plus the "ha, gotcha!" look, I could watch forever.

so many people love this movie and feel the pain from the romance but personally, I love this movie for the pure representation of dreamers. As dreamers, we spend so much time hearing "no" and being told we're crazy and this film really captured the feeling of persistence.

@@thosesiblingss I lied. It’s based on thousands of true stories. Some say L.A. has a million stories that are heartbreaking to the people that live through them. And this movie is true to all those broken dreams, while also giving us a bittersweet ending (rather than a bitter ending). It still leaves us with something, maybe hope. It’s the least the movie could do after stabbing us in the heart like that! 🥺 I guess that’s why it feels true and honest. The ending shows us the wish fulfillment “Hollywood” ending before returning us to the real ending. Which is also a Hollywood ending.

The reason it could step up to A+ levels in the final third is because it was already at those levels earlier on but you didn't realise it until the artist unveiled what he had in mind.

City of Stars and the song she sings for the audition were both nominated for the Academy awards and "City of Stars" won. You need to watch John Legend do both, together at the Oscars. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zp6IpqySeM3QldI.html
