Jewish guide FIRED from Jewish Museum for supporting Palestine - Lucas Febraro interviews Udi Raz

An interview with Udi Raz from Jewish Voice for Peace in the Middle East on how the Holocaust impacted the societies and politics of both Germany and Israel
January 27 is Holocaust Remembrance Day, a date of enormous symbolic importance in Europe, marking one of the darkest chapters in human history. It's a day of particular significance in Germany, of course. The so-called remembrance culture, Germany's reckoning with the legacy of the Nazi periods, and the industrial scale genocides perpetrated by the Nazi regime, have been much lauded internationally.
But today, parts of this culture are increasingly coming into question by many, with charges of antisemitism being used by German institutions to silence voices speaking up for the rights of Palestinians in particular. The targets of these charges are, disproportionately, the Palestinians themselves, Arabs, more broadly, and Jews.
On the international stage, meanwhile, Germany's long steadfast support for the State of Israel, which remains unshaken even as the civilian toll in Gaza continues to climb to ever more obscene numbers, has raised the ire of many. The support, of course, is again justified by the legacy of the Holocaust and the German state's resulting sense of responsibility towards the security of the Jewish state.
What about Israel itself? How has the memory of the Holocaust shaped Israeli society and how does it influence the Israeli government's words and actions? To discuss all this, DiEM25 Communications Director Lucas Febraro sat down with Udi Raz, a doctoral fellow at the Berlin Graduate School for Muslim Cultures and Societies and a board member of Jewish Voice for Peace in the Middle East, in Germany.

Listening to Udi Raz is very soothing and consoling in the face of the manifest cruelity exhibited by the government of Germany towards Palestinians. Much respect to Mr. Udi. There are so many good Jews like Udi who helped us understand and distinguish between Jews and Zionists.🙏

The Israelis think the WWII genocide was the only genocide or the greatest genocide. The world doesn't see it that way. That one was just another genocides and the one in Gaza is the newest one. They think the world MUST differentiate between the 2 genocides because? If anything, the genocide on Gaza is way worse than what Germany did. When Germany was committing genocide, there was no law to make it a crime. The law passed and It became a crime a couple of years AFTER WWII and yet, Germany was indicted! Israel is committing the genocide knowing full well it is a crime so if anything, I say this one's accountability is 100 times higher than the one Germany did! and should be punished to the highest degree possible. This is aside from humanity and morality that is lacking in all genocides regardless of the law at the time.

Thank you, Udi - I started reading up on the Shalechet. I would like to see this someday. Your words were measured, thoughtful, and insightful. Regarding the tragedy, Germany has agreed to extend another $1.4 billion (1.29 billion euros) overall for HoloC survivors around the globe for the coming year (2024). So far, Germany has paid more than $90 Billion to individuals and their heirs. So, what do we think about the reparations for Palestine from ISR? Over seven decades of God only knows numerous massacr*s, abuse and torture, and geno*ide to boot. Going to be a really hefty bill.

This very interesting interview articulates several critical issues. One notable question deals with the definition of antisemitism. The German State apparently decided to include any criticism of the Zionist ideology as well as of the State of Israel as a form of antisemitism. This is questionable, to say the least. (Was the critic of Apartheid in South Africa against Christianity, because the architects of this regime identified themselves as Christians?) Clearly, this definition makes a mockery of the Human Rights of the Palestinians. It also casts confusion on the real issue, which is hatred against the Jews in Europe, more specifically in Germany. This phenomenon has existed for centuries and precisely led to the Holocaust. It is NOT an ideology recently imported by Muslims and Arabs (supporting Palestine) as some prominent German politicians erroneously propagate. Sadly, barking at the wrong tree will not solve the problem.

And Israel is a 'colonialist nation', how? you do know israel and the Jews have history there for more than 3000 years? And that they were persecuted and displaced by, amongst others, Christians and Muslims? And that there have always been Jews living there with many more returning before the so-called Partition? Educate yourself before parroting the fake narrative.

Danke Udi und Lucas! The video was very enlightening! Udi's criticism of the IHRA's working definition of antisemitism is very important. It reveals and exposes how anti-scientific, how anti-semitic and how anti-democratic - as you put it - it is, indeed. I just wonder? Was it the USA based ADL (B'nai B'rith) that is responsible for the IHRA's working definition of Antisemitism?

Hi, guys! Your discussion is very interesting, relevant, and applicable to oppressed groups, especially here in the USA. I live in a village near the eastern shore of Lake Erie (one of the Great Lakes. You can find it on a map). Gowanda, NY borders the Seneca Nation, a sovereign nation, a Native American reservation. The Senecas are a part of the Iroquois Confederacy. Many of my friends are Seneca. Native Americans were almost wiped out by settler-colonialism. Even hunted. The senecas have faced many challenges such as unemployment, cultural destruction, alcoholism. BUT, their Council of Elders has been leading the way towards pride, restoration, by promoting education, businesses, self respect and respect of the Elders. Whenever the governor of New York State tries to impose a sales tax, they burn tires on the highway that goes through their land! Senecas are fierce! A popular sport is lacrosse! Google it! It is faster than football. Also, there are now classes in our public school teaching the spoken Seneca language and culture.

Zionism is dead. There is no place in the world for colonial land theft, barbarity to one's neighbors, or genocide. All people are god´s children, and when they lie, steal, rob and kill others, they will get the consequences. Many people have experienced worse genocide than the european jews, and come out of it more humane, not less.

I simply cannot comprehend this obsession shoved down our throats and minds of the Holocaust . I don't need it to know how to behave and treat other people and cultures . What's way worse is the instrumentation of it not as a guideline or moral compass but to defend an aberration that is Israel. Russia suffered more than 25 million deaths because of Germany , they defeated nazism and they have a far more decent approach
