Jets reportedly tried to replace Hackett, Fields-Bears QB room "toxic," Jets-49ers on MNF | THE HERD

Спорт

Albert Breer joins Colin Cowherd to discuss the New York Jets reportedly trying to replace OC Nathaniel Hackett in the offseason and the "toxic" Chicago Bears QB room with Justin Fields. Breer also chats about Russell Wilson constantly receiving public backlash and how Fields fits in Pittsburgh. He then reacts to Aaron Rodgers making his return to the field on the road against the San Francisco 49ers to open Monday Night Football this season.

If you follow the Bears closely that story makes no sense. Nobody in the Bears organization had anything bad to say about Justin character wise in the 3 years he was there. This is just bs drama that comes up after a player failed at a spot. Ofc the “source” kept his identity anonymous too.

I dunno that Fields failed as much as the Bears failed him and knew they needed to move him before it set in. Fields is a good QB. He's gunna be around for a minute with a team that might have a few more weapons than he was initially given. I'm gunna keep an eye on him, but I'm rooting for my Bears.

So are you just going to ignore the reality of the league not being interested in him? You have to deal with the facts at hand. Justin Fields was the QB that got two sets of offensive coaches fired in three years. Those coaches mostly disperse elsewhere in the league. When the Bears go out to trade him this offseason, there is no interest until Kenny Pickett throws a tantrum and gets shipped out of Pittsburgh, and then is dealt for a 2025 6th round pick. If his character and work ethic was pristine, then why didn't the organizations with coaches or executive that worked with him before have interest? Why did Atlanta have interest in Darnell Mooney enough to give him $39 million and no interest in Fields? They not only paid Cousins but used their first on Penix. Why did Las Vegas opt for Gardner Minshew? Why did New Orleans opt for Peterman and a 5th rounder for Rattler over Fields? The teams with people who knew him best added QBs, but weren't interested in him. It isn't hard to put the pieces together.

Mike Tomlin changed his mind and went with Kenny Picket 2 years ago because Trubisky is one of the worst QB’s in the league and shouldn’t even be a back-up anywhere. Unfortunately Tomlin sucks at evaluating who his best QB is. It took him almost all season last year to finally put Rudolph in at QB after Pickett and Trubisky had sucked really bad all year, and boy did Rudolph look waaaay better than both of them. Top this with taking so long to fire Matt Canada and you can see Mike Tomlin’s acumen in regards to managing the offense is putrid.

Ask anyone that actually studies film, which Colin does not, and they’ll tell you that Fields continued to improve as a passer as the year went on. You could see it. The Bears were a dangerous team by the end of the year, even though they were eliminated. Insane what these talking heads will say without having any real knowledge to back it up

You best go back and study some film my man, because you can't even back up your argument! Fields' season mirrored his career, up and down with flashes and plenty of duds. Actually, he showed some promise (relatively speaking as he wasn't a rookie) early with those back to back four TD games. Sure it was against Denver and Washington, but still. I remember the very next game against Minnesota when Fields looked as if he had never played football before and I predicted the Bears were going to move on from him after the season. Interestingly, he never threw more than a single TD pass in any game after those two early October games. You must be referring to the two decent games he had at the end of the season when you say he improved. He played decently against both Atlanta and Green Bay but really, this was just more of the same for Fields and by the end, the front office had seen enough.

Offenses in week 1 struggle because most teams have their starters hardly play during preseason. So in week 1 most NFL offenses have wrinkles to iron out as far as timing. It’s week 2 that u see things get going for offenses. Why, because defenses set their practice plans accordingly to what they saw in week 1. Offenses iron out timing and small flaws and start taking advantage of what they left on film and add new elements to the plays displayed. If u look at the scores in week 1 from last season compared to week 2 you will see what I mean.

Conversely, when you're not being taught material in a way that suits your learning needs. It's called the adult learning model. Some adults do well to just pick up a book and read words and boom they understand the material. Others need a practical example or a visual example, etc. I've often wondered in the NFL if many players have flamed out because the coaches aren't good teachers. And there is a difference. I think there's also a reason why sometimes players pop on a different team. Maybe they end up on a team where the coaches are good teachers and can deliver the material in different ways based on learning needs.

Fields has an awful time processing. You can see the growth in a quarterback by how they are able to break down the defense, go through their reads, adapt to coverages at the line and then make a play. Fields does not do that. He uses his talent as a runner because he doesn't have the ability to slow the game down as a quarterback. His inability to take instruction is just one of many red flags. He's not great with self awareness either, considering his comments a few years back about wanting a dome because he doesn't like playing in cold weather. That wasn't great either. With other skill positions, you can get away with these things. Not the QB position.

I think the Steelers are going to using Fields like the Saints use Hill, Russ will be the main QB but I think they will have some packages set up for Fields and possibly even use him in with Russ at the same time. That puts alot of pressure on the defense, and would give them some fun options to run in the red zone/goal line plays. Plus Russ is not getting any younger, if you have a nice lead in the third/fourth quarter why not sit Russ and let Fields play? Your going to be run heavy anyhow, eating up clock, protecting the ball...save Russ's legs for later in the season and keep a few hits of the old guys body, seems like a legit way to go.

The Bears' all-time leading receiver had barely 5000 CAREER yards. Tyler Boyd who signed a one year deal with the Titans has 6000 in his career lol. And he's a number 3 slot guy. The Bears have had some decent athlete receivers and running backs and NONE of them got over 5k yards lol. But Justin threw DJ Moore over 1000 yards last year. I'm not sticking up for JF as much as I'm pooping on Chicago's literal inability to ever coach offense in any decade of the NFL.

You shouldn’t stick up for Fields, he isn’t good. Let’s see, Getsy his offensive coordinator had no trouble getting hired again. Darnell Mooney who had a terrible season statistically last season got paid over multiple seasons in free agency. Fields was traded for a conditional 6th round pick and no team wanted him as a starter. That tells you a lot about what the league thinks of Fields.

There are multiple sources of Fields rejecting mentoring over the last 2 years or so. Fields is a terrific athlete and bad QB. His flaws are obvious and well documented going back to Ohio State. Per ESPN analytics, the Bears OL last season ranked 2nd in run block win rate and 5th in pass block win rate in the NFL. There are people that think the Bears OL was bad. Fields made the OL look bad. Fields doesn’t throw with anticipation. He takes too long to get through his reads. He routinely misses open receivers downfield. He holds the ball too long and takes too many sacks and hits. He was terrible in the 4th quarter over the last 2 seasons. I believe he led all QB’s with the most 4th quarter interceptions. Fields didn’t like to attack the middle of the field like most successful QB’s. He also fumbled far too often.

  • @TheCountofToulouse

The WORST part about Justin Fields is the fact that if he was just some white QB, he'd have been benched and released at some point. He SUCKED for a SOLID 3 years and everyone kept making excuses for it, blaming everyone when the truth was right in front of them, he's not an NFL caliber QB, he's got a SLOW mind, he cannot process multiple reads and in truth, he should NEVER have started until he was ready. If he had sat for a few years, he might have had a chance but now the damage is done and on top of it, he's bitter and resentful...so, good luck getting out of that death trap.
