Bo Nix is in the best situation with Broncos, Caleb Wiliams-Rome Odunze impact on Bears | THE HERD
Спорт
FOX Sports NFL analyst Mark Schlereth joins Colin Cowherd to explain why Bo Nix is in the best situation of all the rookie QBs by heading to the Denver Broncos to play under Sean Payton. He also discusses this draft's trend with the first 14 picks selected on offense and how the Caleb Williams-Rome Odunze duo will impact the Chicago Bears.

Until Bo Nix proves he can produce in a non-Oregon dump pass system, it is understandable that many people question his ability to succeed in the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised if Sean Payton had success with Zach Wilson and he ultimately becomes the starter going forward.

Mark is right, the big difference for Nix is Payton. He was a reach at 12, but because he will be paired with Sean Payton mitigates the reach quite a bit in my mind. The fit for Sean just makes so much sense. If he had gone to LV or Minny, it'd have been a bigger reach and not a good situation for him

Keenan is a 1-2 year veteran pickup to help a young QB, Odunze is a 5-10 year pickup who will be Caleb's go-to guy for the next decade as they grow together..... heck i even remember people in 2007 being like "why did the Vikings draft Adrian Peterson when they already have Chester Taylor?!?!" Not for "a quarterback", for Bo Nix. It has to do with a) how well he fits Payton's system b) the fact that Denver has a top 10 O-line and c) that he'll likely be able to start right away. Sure, KC would be a great place to play... but you won't play there.
I love Schlereth

1000% agree...look at tom brady ...doesnt even have a cannon...his arm is fine but brady droped back and hit the open guy or checked down...he made a living on check downs and being efficient ...arm strength is nice but accuracy and decision making are FAR more important

I love Nix but for Mark to totally disregard arm strength is just short-sighted. It’s not just about how far they can throw it. Those 2 guys have converted more crucial 3rd down plays than we can count because of their huge arms
@davidrhode6610

Great take I've always thought the greatest benefit of a strong arm isn't how far a quarterback can throw the ball but the velocity which enables them to throw deep outs against tight coverage or be able to get the ball quicker to the receiver so he can do something with it or protect himself.

I mean, the league is definitely becoming more offensive focused, but this was a very deep offensive draft and not a great defensive one it kind of made sense that a lot of offensive players are taken they did shatter the records though in the first round so that was a bit bit unexpected but I wasn’t that surprised. I expected the record to be broken this year.
Mark - with all due respect, what a strong arm gives a team is velocity - the ball gets to the receivers before defenders do. This is what made John Elway so good. His passes were on a rope. I love Gary Kubiak, God Bless him, but the receiving corps used to call his passed medicine balls because they would come in on an arc so that a receiver would take a hit with the catch - and need medicine afterwards, lol. Let’s hope Bo Nix is great. You’re right - Montana, Brady even Troy Aikman, none of them had John Elway type arm strength. I think Mahones does though.
Yes they did want Bo nix. Look for the interview
Schlereth is still thinking about the in the NFL 20 years ago. If you're stacked at receiver it allows you to motion guys and find matchup nightmares for defenses. Chip blocks will quickly change defenders (edges) minds. Quarterbacks that play with timing don't need the most stellar line. The Bears have a manageable line and they have upgraded at center and tackle. Of course I would like a better left tackle but they chose a wide receiver who is a game changer. Caleb is going to have so many options. They can run a 11 or 12 set which will cause defenses headaches. Imagine having to cover Moore, Allen, Odunze, Kmet and Everett with Swift in the backfield. They can also choose to run out of this set as Allen and Everett and Kmet are above average blockers.
I don’t know mark, not too many weeks ago on your radio show you called Bo Nix “captain bubble screen” or something to that effect. Said he had no pro ready attributes
Arm strength isn't just about throwing it 60 yards. It's about being able to threaten the defense so they have to defend the entire field and it's also about the velocity that the throws reach their target with. The quicker the throw gets there the less time the defense has to react.
Denver never worked out Caleb Williams 😂 he only had one visit to Chicago and had a pro day at usc

You should have an issue with it. Bears trenches are still the weak point. at 9 you could have taken Fashanu, Fuaga, Latu, Murphy, Turner, Mims, Verse, Fautanu. All of those would have made the bears weakest point a lot better, now they are dependent on Darnell Wright & Co to stop Detroit (got better on D), Packers (got better on D) and Vikings (got better on D). Rome has to be no doubt better than all those guys. Can he be? Absolutely. but if any of those guys become franchise cornerstones, its gonna look really silly taking a WR to pair with your QB instead of giving him an elite linemen or edge.

1:47 The last time I saw someone throw it 67 yards for a touchdown in the air? It must have been Terry Bradshaw in the mid-to-late 1970s... which was probably the only time anyone's ever done it.
Both of our offensive tackles are above average. The only reason we should’ve possibly considered taking an offensive lineman at nine is if Joe fell to us and we wanted to get prolifically good left tackle. Keenan Allen is on a one year deal and our third wide receiver is a very unproven guy. I think it was absolutely the smart decision to take the best player available especially when it’s at a position of relative need like receiver this is for the future not right now.

@@randomupdates4013 Payton has one more time to be disrespectful for every black player in the league fully turns against him
How long is it going to take Colin to learn to correctly pronounce Odunze
Did he say Bo Nix is the best QB in the draft!? Why doesn't Colin call him on that? Oh well. We know what they say about opinions.
How many people in Chicago actually graduate from high school?
Mark is a homer. Best situation, Bo Nix…..😂😂😂😂!

He definitely sounded like he was hoping for something when it came to the arm, strength argument as well. I’m shooting helps, especially if things develop late, or if the quarterback sees the open window late, and he has the arm to get the ball in the window. So I can be just as important, especially when things are not on schedule…

😂😂 you gotta speak good when you’re on payroll. Ain’t no way that’s the BEST situation. In a division with Mahomes and the team is sorry 😂.

NFL just got way more EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Schlereth, and I really want Nix to work on the Broncos… but that was some absolute homer copium he was laying down 😂

How? Nix had better stats than CW and Penix in every throwing related stat and took way less sacks.
Apparently this guy doesn’t know Keenan is on a one year deal
I like how right after mark got done saying how receivers don’t move the needle and OL is the priority, Colin went straight into how Chicago turned around their culture by taking odunze lol did he expect mark to agree??

Dude is Dead wrong. The Bears by a mile😂. Those receivers, Tight Ends, Backs, Two young ascending O-tackles. Come on now....
Most people start at taking offense because it's the offensive league. All the rules are there to support the people on offense because we can't play defense anymore.

Actually most drafts have more defensive players picked the first round.
Put drew on retainer to come in and help the new QB….and to be available during the season via zoom/text whatever. Money well spent
Vamanos Broncos 🥊
That’ll be the Bears problem, that o line is going to get eaten up and all those weapons will start getting pissy that the rookie QB isn’t getting them the ball. Swift will be out by week 8
Could have picked him round 2 and an edge rusher/lineman in round 1. Daniel Jones repeated but not as high.
The defensive head coach rub is a crock. The most successful duo was that exact situation in New England. Period.
What a homer
Williams best position by a Country Mile😂. I think Vegas knows a little more than Schlereth 😉
