Odunze ‘that type of dude’, ‘No problem’ with Penix pick, Bears a playoff team? | NFL | THE HERD

Спорт

Three rookie WRs were selected in the top 10 of the NFL Draft: Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze. Colin Cowherd and TJ Houshmandzadeh discuss which rookie WR is most likely to succeed, and why TJ has no problem with the Atlanta Falcons drafting Michael Penix Jr. Plus, they discuss if the Chicago Bears are ready for the playoffs with Caleb Williams and Odunze.

Pros and Cons of drafting Penix: Pros 1. Have a great backup in case of injury 2. Get your QB of the future (a top position) because you expect to be picking on the 20s next few years 3. Kirk can help Penix develop and strengthen his body for the future 4. Year 3 kirk will be gone and they'll have 3 good years while paying Cousins little in dead cap with a developed and stronger Penix Cons 1. Could've used that 100 million guaranteed to sure up holes on your teams 2. Could've used that draft pick on Odunze, OL, or best defensive player along with that money to go for a Super Bowl 3. Creates QB controversy if Penix kills it in the preseason or if Cousin's struggles (no clear leader on team) 4. Penix is older than most draft picks and that's two years wasted on a rookie QB to build around Ultimately only time will tell which side is correct

Regarding Penix. The reason why this is a genius move is quite simple. The NFL and their crazed fans are in the era of non-aggressive football. The emphasis is now on building a team with plentiful QB’s, WR’s, and prime protectors on the O-Line. Sadly, the days of the defensive intimidators are a thing of the past. The headhunters on the opposite side of the ball don’t sell video games and tickets, nor does the aggressive nature attract the international audience.

18:21 this stat exists yet people will stll maintain that Herbert is overrated, completely disregarding some of the worst situational playcalling the sport has ever seen, and a horrible defense, both coming from a defensive minded HC with no feel for the game 😮‍💨 A few punts here and there (instead of going for it on 4th down in your own territory with a horrible defense), and a few well placed field goals (taking the points you can get rather than leaving so many points on the field, only to lose games by a fewer amount of points you could've had in FG tries), and the narrative surrounding Herbert's name would be completely different. If you don't think so, see Joe Burrow's SB run, where his coach knew when to punt and take the points they could get. Then see how Burrow has an absolutely horrendous first half of the season last year after getting paid and people still has no worries about him as a QB.....

On the Seattle offense point, the interior of the offensive line was objectively terrible, and could not block for the pass or the running game. Add on playing against Aaron Donald, Armstead and the 49ers dline and a defense that couldn't stop a nose bleed, meant basically we were always throwing the ball...With a bad and injured oline...Waldron didn't help but if he learned some lessons from last season, the Bears offense should be a good one.

Atlanta has plenty of weapons. The top defensive player in the draft was not taken til the teens and probably wont make that big of an impact. Cousins gets hurt guess what you have a first round talent young stud qb who's more athletic and throws the ball better than Cousins and alot of yall want to complain about it... smh

Age. 24 isn't old. But in NFL years as a rookie, it is. If Penix was 21 he goes number 2 maybe even number one. He's the best thrower of the football in this draft and it's no close. His tape is good. His throwing is good. He got better every year he played that's good. But he's 24 and that suddenly was being treated as if he was 40. Sure, he could fail. Every QB drafted this year could end up failures. There's never a sure thing. You keep Penix upright he's doing to be good. Maybe not great but good. He throws it to well not to be good.

  • @tidmarshXC

@@larrylindgren9484 24 is ancient for a rookie quarterback. In the best timeline by the time he is expected to start he will be older than guys like Jalen Hurts and Jordan Love are now. And that's the first chance they can move on from Cousins without it being devastating from a cap standpoint. More likely, it's 3 seasons before they move on from Cousins which will make Penix older than guys like Tua and Herbert are today. Signing Cousins to a 4 year, $100M deal and drafting a QB at #8 cannot both be good decisions. Once they signed Cousins drafting a QB should have been out of the question. If they wanted Penix they should have signed a guy like Russell Wilson or Justin Fields to be a bridge QB. Doing both just makes both decisions worse. You cannot go all in with Cousins and you cannot fully transition to Penix and take advantage of the rookie contract. The Falcons are saying that they view this like the Jordan Love selection. The fundamental differences there are Jordan Love being much younger and Jordan Love being picked at the end of the 1st round.

Don't understand? A team only has so many resources to build the team with. Atlanta just spent twice on the same position. It would be like me buying two cars. I can only drive one at a time, and now I can't afford that vacation. Atlanta just paid top dollar for a used KIA with a rebuilt engine, then went out and bought a new car. Opportunity cost is the REAL cost.
