Jet Powered Go Kart

Ойын-сауық

Ever wonder what will happen if you strap a large RC jet engine to a go-kart! in this video I do exactly that and the results were nothing short of spectacular!
here's a link to the Insta360 GO 2:
bit.ly/Go2-Camera-WP
I had this idea for a really long time I'll ago but I was originally going to use a homemade turbojet that I was going to build, however, the weight of this, the sheer size held me back from building it, also it didn't look really pretty.
I tried to keep it very compact, light and extremely simple, I think I succeeded.
as for performance it was pretty insane the acceleration from 0 to 20 was kind of slow but as soon as you had 20 miles per hour it's a constant push once you hit 40 the push feels four times as strong and it starts getting scary really fast.
I'm totally going to set this up on a nice smooth stretch of road soon to see what kind of top speed I can hit, or at least see how it feels at higher speeds.

I appreciate what is being shown here for its novel application of jet propulsion to the vehicle. Fifty-five years ago the older kids (budding mechanics they were) in the neighborhood adapted a huge West Bend two-cycle chainsaw engine to a lightweight go kart frame. That thing could outrun the wind. Even the bravest of the group wouldn't take it out for a second run. These guys had the brand new US Route 1 bypass that connected the northern terminus of the Roosevelt Blvd. to a distant point near Levittown, Pennsylvania, for their test track. That motor was screeching every time some young fool made a pass at 80 mph (estimated) with blue smoke trailing in their wake. The guys ended up putting a 5 hp side reel Tecumseh motor on the go kart which was enough fun to race around the park without someone facing certain death.

@@WarpedPerception you will have to factor in the total frontal drag and also if your engine isn’t exposed to the direct airstream you won’t get any ram recovery. Maybe build a split inlet to single duct (like on a T-7 Jet Trainer) and that way you can force feed the engine air instead of it sitting in the relative vacuum that is the area behind you.

The sheriff has told them to stop calling them it no bussiness of there's what I'm doing. I really need one of those little jet engines to drive them totally nuts, that and a few gun shots should do the trick.

Pure badassery right there. Sweet build man, I agree with other comments, I'd love to see the difference in power the turbine could produce if you could get it into the airstream, maybe fab an intake duct to scoop air and dump it into the front of the turbine.

Because the brakes aren't connected to the engine technically you can be full throttle on the jet engine and then be able to use the brakes and still slow down while you have full throttle on the whole time Because its not connected like a traditional piston engine would be and Because its not directly connected it has no rolling resistance and this combination with 70lbs of thrust would create an insanely fast go kark, amazing video loved it

  • @PandaMane

Problem is that, with the power and wheels being separated like this, it's much easier to skid and understeer since a much larger friction force is required at the wheels in order to slow down. I would love to see this same setup with the addition of another jet engine and a foot throttle.

(Writing this 2 mins into the vid) Legitimately liked the video purely for the shot where you mounted the camera to the axel to show your work. Like the rest of the video so far has been gold as well but that legitimately stood out to me as some incredible cinematography for a youtube channel. Like the whole project deserves way more than just a like on each vid, but for some reason the camera work is what has stuck out to me the most so far. I'm legitimately impressed.
