Physically there were stark differences but she nailed the essence of Joan Crawford - that's for Damn sure... so mission accomplished Jessica!

I think the biggest difference was Jessica's dark eyes vs. Joan's famous ice blue ones. But yeah, Jessie nailed it.

Yes. She captured who Joan was, which is far more difficult than capturing what she looked like.

Magnificent. Lange channels the empathy necessary to capture the multi-dimensional complexities of Crawford. She was, after all, human.

I honestly didn't know much about Joan Crawford until I watched Feud. Joan was not only a beautiful woman but an amazing actress as well and Jessica Lange made complete justice to her role as Joan. Jessica was simply incredible. One great actress playing another. Couldn't get better than that.

Jessica Lange made Miss Crawford a human being again. Nobody´s perfect, but Joan was a Star and it´s so sad when a book or a one side performance like Faye did, turn a person into a grotesque caricature.

  • @DeepScreenAnalysis

    @DeepScreenAnalysis

    5 жыл бұрын

steveaustin1977 Faye didn’t make her a caricature, Faye showed the reality of an alcoholic bipolar narcissist, conveying the inherent traits of such a personality which aligned with reports not just from Christina but others too such as Lana Turner. Just because Faye portrayed the unstable monstrosity of Joan’s rage it doesn’t make it any less empathetic than Lange’s Weepy and winsome Joan.

Messylin Faye gave a memorable performance and in turn the movie made Joan a grotesque caricature. She herself admits it shouldn’t have been made. Being compared to Jessica’s humane and tortured soul Joan..it most definitely makes it more empathetic.

Jessica Lange‘s work always hits me in the feels, anyone who says she wasn’t like Joan isn’t seeing Joan as a person at all she’s very much like her in both voice and mannerisms and she was extremely close to how Joan was especially around those years. Beautiful tribute

This is a very moving loving tribute to Joan and Jessica as well. Beautiful! And as much as I enjoyed the work of boyh Sarandon and Lange, I do hope Jessica wins the Emmy because unfortunately Joan's image and reputation as been ruined and sullied. She brought respect, grace and nuance to the role of Joan Crawford. Maybe that will remind people that she was a person, not a caracature. This video does the same.

Completely agree with you. This story showed just how lonely and sad Joan was. She felt she couldn't be anyone but this image she created. Sadly she is only remembered now because of her daughter's horrible book. I gave it more credit than I should have. But let's see Christina is going to do a now 30th anniversary printing after a 20th anniversary printing and then after the initial printing. For someone that hates her mother so much, she sure has made a nice living off her as she continues to re-hash her one sided story again and again and getting paid each time she does it.. It is a shame that Joan was not around to give her side. It is a very bad habit to blindly believe one side in anything.

Christina Crawford actually helped a lot of people deal with abuse and opened up talks about it. Yes, it's a horrible book because it details things nobody wants to think of someone they look up to. I am a huge Joan fan, but I can also see her faults in life. I don't believe Christina was a saint growing up either, though. They had a rough relationship and never found closure. That's the saddest part.

  • @scotnick59

Crawford came from dire poverty and nobody I can think of did such a superb job in manufacturing them self such as she did from being Lucille LeSueur into Joan Crawford. She must have had the ambition of 5 people and an excellent learning capacity. Her beautifully modulated speaking voice alone (beginning in early talkies) was a miraculous accomplishment for a little girl from San Antonio. She deserved an A+ for being the ultimate female movie star of Hollywood's Golden Age.

I love Joan Crawford as an actress. I am even impressed by her strength of character after all she was a neglected and disadvantaged child. I think she would have been very impressed with Jessica Lange's portrayal of her in Feud. Jessica showed us the human being behind the facade. Joan Crawford's reputation had and has been so damaged by her adopted daughter Christina's book Mommie Dearest. Here at least we see her in a different light a complex woman who had good and bad points just like everyone else. She was not the tyrannical figure Christina writes about but in fact rather an insecure person inspite of her great talent and achievements. There are 2 sides to every story. Unfortunately Joan was unable to speak up against the accusations made by Christina because she had passed away by the time the book and film came out. Christina was adopted by Joan and by doing so she became a famous person and made a lot of money through her Mothers name. Who would she have been without her mothers name and fame. Two difficult personalities clashing. I think an unfortunate combination. We didn't live with them so who knows what really went on. The twins did not share the same opinion of their Mother as Christina. So Who is telling the truth. Joan was a great star and in the end how many of us would pass the test as parent of the year?

And you only heard from one side. And for Christina to hate her mother so much, she sure has made a very nice living off of that hate again, again and again with her rehashing it again and again. What? I think she is going on her 30th anniversary printing. Sorry, I don't blindly believe her anymore. She has just earned one penny too many over and over.

Whatever she did or did not do to her adopted children, I am glad we are finally giving some time to look at this woman, this star, this legend. Appreciate her work, consider her legacy and what Hollywood did to her. I can only imagine some of the indecencies a woman like her must have had to endure in those days. From men in power. Can anyone really say they wouldn’t break, they wouldn’t lose it, under those circumstances. i see so much pain when I see her. She clearly wasn’t given the support or attention she needed to deal with her issues and demons, I feel a vast amount of admiration, respect, love and pity for the incomparable Miss Joan Crawford. ❤️

I was wondering about, if Joan Crawford died a year later when Jessica Lange played her big role in King Kong, Joan might have seen this movie. Haha, I think she would have never imagined that this girl is going to play her many years later.

People say Joan was a monster... She was, but not by her own fault, but by Hollywood. They transformed a beautiful and amazing actress into a devil. Christina just removed the veil.
