I challenge anyone who thinks working fast food "doesn't require much" to actually work fast food. Not throwing coffee in a Karen's face requires tremendous self-control. Plenty of people would end up being fired or charged with assault before the first day was over.

    Ай бұрын

Yep. That's _one more thing_ they neglect to mention to their audience. Mall-Wart and others are notorious for doing that, but pretty much anywhere you've got lower-paid employees, they do it. I was interviewing for a job out of college and halfway through the process they said they changed their minds and were splitting it into 2 part-time jobs so they wouldn't have to pay insurance. I was standing at the service counter of a Safeway while two employees and a manager were discussing a shift swap for one of them right in front of me, and he was told they couldn't do it because that would put him over 40 hours and that's not allowed (because they'd have to offer him insurance). All of the housekeeping staff at a hotel I worked at were kept at like 35 hours (with a little buffer just in case they had to come in on a day off and help), so the hotel didn't have to offer them insurance. But OK, Jesse, these people are all making $40k (or in your world, $50k, or whatever) because they make $20/hr. And they're living like kings. Riiiiight. There they go again...The conservative media being disingenuous and misleading their audience to gin up resentment based on bullsh*t. Oh...congratulations on the new job!!! [Edit: 35 hours]

Honestly, Starbucks has an insane rate of repetitive motion injuries, lifting injuries, back injuries from constantly having to bend over quickly over and over, and not to mention mopping and deep cleaning like deck scrubbing. People forget that every employee you see at Starbucks has 5-10 different jobs. Each employee is a janitor, each employee is a cashier, each employee works the oven, works the bar, is a stock clerk, and is a customer service rep. Not only that, if you're a supervisor or a manager you are all of that because you never have enough staff and you do inventory, tips, employees management, planning and running the schedule, running interference on 40 year olds who have the audacity to scream at 16 year olds because they didn't come early enough to get their coffee before work or are running return scams. And if you're a supervisor or manager you have to deal with Corporate and they are pretty ruthless. Not to mention being up to the Starbucks and management audits, which are completely more intense than health inspections and the displays have to be just so and corporate will tell at you for having to stay late even though they see all of you working non-stop all day on the cameras and not having enough people to get out on time and do all the things you have do in opening, mid, and closing and they keep cutting staff hours and staff numbers. Starbuck's gross profit was $25.108B. And because of how capitalism in the stock market works, they have to grow and grow and grow it, and they keep putting more and more downward pressure on their employees. That's why they're so scared of their employees unionizing. I thought that we needed a union when I worked there, but I didn't think we could. Now I know I was wrong. The fight is the fight and we need class and rank and file solidarity. It is what it is. Organizing is the only way trajectories improve for people without serious capital.
