    Delgado is what you call a smart one. He's real slick making up his own little ways to manipulate the sport. That's what champions are made of. Every wrestler is big and tough, every good wrestler knows the basic fundamentals very well... every good wrestler is physically gifted. But champions have an x factor. That's what sets good from great!

    dormilon36 100% right... it's the big reason why the U.S. is not a dominant international power in wrestling, which is a shame. If collegiate wrestling was moved to freestyle rules that would change big time.

  • @FormerADTMan

    @FormerADTMan

    dormilon36 Guys, I think freestyle is cool too. But folk style is a whole different sport than freestyle. Folk style requires more of a control over your opponent. EXample folk style requires a one second fall (college)or two second fall (HS) Nearfall points require a longer count. I am not saying one is better than another I am just saying they are two different sports that require two different levels of control over an opponent

  • @tommyrazerstein1742

    ***** I agree, plus the rules of freestyle change every month, and sometimes it is really a big deal. Little things may change in folk style nothing crazy. Having the rules change that much is not consistent, I did better in freestyle, but I agree

  • @dormilon36

    @dormilon36

    10 жыл бұрын

    Tom Frazer Agree. And this is not about better or worse...but freestyle and greco are the versions of the sport practiced everywhere else on this planet. Plus. I suspect many spectators find the "control" aspect of folkstyle wrestling less exciting to watch. This is not insignificant for a sport struggling to remaining relevant and competitive in the Olympics and beyond.

    Great to see two Cali boys battling it out in the NCAA finals.. For some reason, not too many kids from California have become successful at the collegiate level despite the fact that they did well in high school, also considering the fact that CA is one of the toughest to win a state title in.. Its all about the kids that were state champs out of PA, Ohio, Iowa, etc.. I remember these two in HS and many more that were just as successful but the rest just seemed to fade away as soon as college hit them... Hopefully more and more Cali boys represent more in the future of NCAA..

    I am proud to be the brother of a highschool champion. If any of you payed attention to highschool championships his name was "landon howard" a giant of 6'8" from sherwood high MO. With the reach of an ourangatang. But despite how tall he was he could get under the smallest person but his reach was his great weapon . His body so tall and big you couldnt do alot of moves before he made you regret it and folded you like a pretzel. I always loved wrestleing. But i was cursed with short arms. But if i could get in grappleing. I even made my champion brother in the makeing sweat. Being fat normally isint a great thing. But my coach made me practice balance over everything else. Kinda like sumo. People would charge and id just throw them down. But i learned moves from my brother and could fold people hard.

    Every time Delgado had control of at least one ankle/leg and that is all you need to avoid "control". When Delgado got the takedown, he didn't get points until he had control of both of Garrett's legs and Garrett had neither of Delgado's. First takedown, at 0:15, Delgado had hold of Garrett's ankle as they rolled over at just about 0:16:50. Not long enough to gain "control". Refing those two would be a nightmare! Fast! We can stop n go, slow mo, and all that, then armchair quarterback the whole match. Easy being on the couch and making statements....all of us! lol

    what it comes down to is garrett not being able to finish his doubles. i wouldn't say delgado was stalling, he just has a unique style that works for him. garrett played jesse's game and couldn't win.

    Delgado definitely had a jump to the leg style of defense but it would never, ever fly in freestyle; he was always exposing his back over and over and over. He'd be teched inside a minute every time someone shot in.

    ryan Wrestling isnt meant to be defensive. Thats why freestyle is much more entertaining than folkstyle by far. Delgado waits to scramble and capitalize on an opponents mistake. That doesnt really work in freestyle

    This match must've been a nightmare to officiate. Those calls were tough, although with the way Delgado rolls through with his defense, I can see why all of those challenges were not takedowns. A High school ref would've called takedowns here.

    I don't understand wrestling, why wasn't take point for a takedown in the beginning? It's even being described as a takedown, by commentators and YT ppl

    How does "riding time" exist with "stalling"? Do you get a point for riding time and then get called for stalling?

    +Carl Saberhagen No you can get called for stalling before you get riding time. You have to be working for something on top, if you're just sitting there you get called. I kinda feel like he shouldnt have gotten called though. And riding time does not make the stalling call go away.

    It matters if your riding but still looking for a turn and aren't Riding below the waist on the legs for more than 5 seconds Have the defensive wrestler on his feet without returning him to the mat for more than 5 seconds Or just holding him down without attempting a turn If you ride without doing these things you'll get your point and no stall calls

    Dirty Dick Rodney it probably should’ve been but looking at it I’m pretty sure Delacado had a leg before he fell on the map, and garret didn’t have complete control because of that

    No control, he still had the leg and why even the review wasn’t reversed. I agree, it was close but why scrambling is an enormous part of having success in Collegiate Wrestling. For instance @ the end of the 2nd period when Delgado scored 2, it was close until he locked that second ankle and the ref called the 2(that’s when it is considered full control, or behind the hips). Some can be more judgement calls compared to others; & sadly why they have this stupid a$$ brick rule now. But you kind’ve have to @ this level of wrestling! The most minor mistakes are the difference b/w a National Title and/or a close loss to send you back to the Consolation/Wrestle Backs Brackets to go for 3rd(which many will tell you can be harder than 1st depending the wt/year/who’s wrestling because “Wrestle Backs” are tough in the NCAAs...doesn’t matter if it’s DI, or DIII, it’s the toughest Sport on this planet). It was the correct call for anyone who’s wrestled @ this level. However, I’ll say this Garrett was very close and his style was great for Delgado. However, he also also lost & went 0-3 vs him the last 2 seasons...why Delgado went in #1 seed, & Garrett #2(only losses Garrett had were from Delgado @ Midlands from that season & one loss the prior year in the Semifinals @ Nationals). These two always wrestled one another close!

    Celestino Larios Yes you can throw, you have to fall with him. Freestyle and Greco are just upper body based. You can still throw, trip, do all the cool Judo stuff in folkstyle, you just have to be slick enough.
