Enjoyed Jersey, then watch our video on Guernsey and compare the two. Maybe you will like Guernsey more! kzread.info/dash/bejne/qoB3spOOkcLHgtY.htmlfeature=shared *Correction, in the video we mention Liberation Sq was once Royal Sq. This was incorrect and Royal Sq is a different square in the town. Such luck to film that rainbow over the lighthouse! Every time I hear about Jersey, I think of Lillie Langtry, The Jersey Lily, and the wonderful Francesca Annis, who portrayed her in the old BBC mini-series. The Jersey calves are darling. The realities of German occupation during WWII were feared, but yet far away here in Southern California. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, (Dec. 7th, 1941) was closer to home, and there were fortifications built along our coastlines as well. My maternal grandfather was a block captain for the Civil Defense in Los Angeles, housing hard hats, shovels, and sand bags in his yard, and organizing local blackouts. Fortunately, no bombs were dropped. Recently, I found an original Nottingham newspaper dated May 9th, 1945, sent to my other grandfather (also living in Los Angeles) by his sister and mother who still lived in England. You have presented a full picture of this beautiful island; I love seeing the green surrounding the streams/small rivers on the map. The coastal scenes are wonderful! On to your Christmas Market next. Cheers!

Went to Jersey 30 years ago and we bought bread from a bakers that was cooked in cabbage leaves. I saw on the museum table a bread loaf with some cabbage leaves on it. The cabbage bread was delicious!

In 1951, age eleven, I visited an aunt in Jersey and there was a great deal of evidence of the German occupation still visible. Besides the underground hospital there were numerous large concrete block-houses, some in very inconvenient locations around town and I was told at the time they were too strongly built to remove easily. There were also many gun positions on the coast, some linked by underground tunnels. One of my relatives was an amateur film enthusiast and he's taken film of the Germans landing---which could have got him shot. He also had film, taken covertly during the occupation. I remember it showing islanders taking their bicycles upstairs at night for safety,---they were prized possessions! Also he'd taken film of German soldiers sitting around aimlessly after Germany's surrender, some of them asking the islanders for food!. I've always wondered what became of his films, they'd be a valuable historical record.

I spent a season at Seagrove Court Hotel Corbiere the hot summer of ‘55, great time with Gordons Gin at 16/- (80p) a bottle, Mary Ann or Randalls beer- pennies a pint. Numerous wonderful bars round the island, sand motorbike racing on St Ouens beach. New influx of gorgeous gals off the boat every week……wonderful holiday destination.

I lived on the Island for 24 years and if the seat of power on the Island has been moved to the town hall of which I’m no sure. It has always been in the states chambers in the royal square. Apart from that I enjoyed your video.

Nicely done. The Smugglers Inn was my drinking hole in the 60s. It looks much the same. And I used to shoot air rifles in one of the wards of the underground hospital.

Thank You so much for covering the Channel Islands!!! Really well done!!! I was always curious about these islands. Yet another place I will need to add to my list. I think I will need to live in the UK for a few months just to see everything. As a Native New Yorker, I hear Jersey and I think Jersey shore. Trust me, the state of New Jersey has nothing on this Island .... except maybe the Jersey Shore. Cheers from NYC!!! PS: Yes. There are Guernsey cows in [New] Jersey.

Correction! The Nazis occupied four islands - Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark. It was the only British territory to be occupied. They would remain there until the end of the War in Europe in May 1945. Hitler believed the Channel Islands might be a 'stepping stone' from which to invade Britain.

What a beautiful island, a pity that it was occupied by the Germans who under Hitler had a terrible mentality towards innocent people. They stole everything and murdered countless innocent people and even after they lost the war they still destroyed many things because of their terrible hatred of others. Fortunately, Churchill, Alan Turing and Barnes Wallis and many others won the war for us. It's a shame about all that unnecessary concrete they put on these islands, but it can now be used as a museum. A wonderful informative film, thank you!

They made their contributions as did the women in the factories safe from the bombs in the US. But the real "winners of the war" were the many millions of wild tribes(persons) from the vastness of Russia who marched into battle through the minefields in front of their tanks to grind the invaders out of their homeland. Remove only them and the outcome may have been a different world today.
