The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Thank you all for the kind words about my dad. He truly lived to perform abd was always concerned if he did a good show and how I coukd make it better....as it wasn’t practical to carry a huge orchestra sbd keep tix priced affordable- another demand if my dad, to never rip off his fans, always a seat available abd he’d happily sign snything and take a pic, share a story sbd handshake.

@@larryhardee1914 You are most welcome. The first thing my dad eoukd ask me as he literally stepped off stage was, how was I? My reply was great, except the 2 times in my life where I saw him forget the lyrics but it really was hard to notice and I was a kid, not his producer, abd he’d wipe his face on a towel, take a drink of water or coffee and woukd happily go back out and do another show if that were possible- which it never was....casinos had a very strict start abd tine limit and our concert shiws, had a curfew, so they we were limited to a 2 1/2 hour shoe eith a 15 minute intermission ( usually for the venue to see drinks, but a great way to use the restroom and not miss any music or my dads audience interaction/participation/request. Ehich we both felt abd be truly loved. Rally make each show special.

Jerry Vale comes from those days when singing meant voice, technical perfection, passion and many other blessings...... for some reason I´ll never know he apparently never got the recognition he more than deserved..... but he´s probably now singing to the angels in Heaven..... and we stay back here enjoying his marvelous, unforgettable voice...... sheer beauty.....

I'm a tenor trained classically for many years, howbeit I can and do 'switch hit', vocally, to standards and more popular styles from the past. I've been influenced by so many of the great male singers (of varying styles) from past decades such as, to name a few, Johnny Mathis, Engelbert H. Tom Jones, Matt Munro, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr., Sergio Franchi, Mario Lanza, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, BJ Thomas, Jack Jones, Sinatra....and certainly, the incredible 'velvet voice' of Mr. Jerry Vale who stands with that formidable elite group of fantastic male singers, the likes of which we have not seen again.

Ed abd Sylvia Sullivan were dear friends of my dad. He truly loved Ed as a friend and looked up to him eith the utmost respect sbd awe. I remember my dad telling me how Ed eoukd ask him to ghostwrite his newspaper column back then, and I always remember Ed dunning hi self on a chaise in our backyard, with one of those reflectors to get a complete tan on on Re’s face.....it was odd that he wasn’t by the swimming pool, but on the grass. They always sent me Xmas snd birthday presents, sbd were so nice. I am so impressed by how he left his legacy of shiws to his son-in-las who has brilliantly protected them and yet shared pieces fir free....sonething I try to do eith my dads music, but it’s so hard, as ppl don’t realize that every post steals from the ppl who need the money the mist, the sing writers abd musicians abd what really drives me nuts are “fans” eho release so-called remastered versions when they are nothing if the dirt as o ly I have the access to the actual multitrack tapes and all they are doing is Messi g eith the only approved release of the song by Jerry. If Herry wanted to release a stereo version of a mono recording, don’t you think we eoukd? Do t you think he’d have the prod at Comulnua/Sony or me take the tapes abd Re- it sbd truly remaster them? Or go back in the studio abd record a new version? These ppl like Scott Rogers and Nick Riggio are nothing but thieves, abd because if thrm, sll the unreleased songs, videos and Luce recordings will never be released, including the double-Luce CD/DVD of his return to Carnegie Hall in 1994. I’d really like to release the documentary of all the behind the scenes stuff we Shotwell in your showing how relaxed abd fun loving my dad was, enjoying meeting fans sbd joking seconds before it was his cue to step on stage....but these ppl, who make illegal videos, eoukd steal stills from the video abd Tob the copyright holders and damage the Jerry Vale brand. He lived his fans, even when the asked him during dinner fir an autograph m.....no problem, he’d also take a picture, shake hands sbd exchange a quick story....total time spent, a minute.....woukd bill cosby do that? No, he’d lecture you fir 5 minutes on being rude sbd say he’d sign your autograph after dinner- I guess he thought he was paid money for being the spokesman for Quaskudes, abd the ppl thst watched his shows, bought his records, etc didn’t matter. Sorry Bill, they are your customers snd it was their money that paid gir your attorneys and lifestyle. I always described my dad as just a nice guy from the neighborhood but with a different job. He r joyed spending time with his fans....as he was a fan abd frirnd if Ed’s, Oerry Como, Jinny Roselli, etc. like anyone else.

Great singer with effortless power. No roughness, no evident straining for volume. Vale's singing was like the difference between a V8 engine and a V12 engine. Both can go fast, but the V12 is smooth and effortless. The only other male singer with a voice like that was Andy Williams. The difference between Vale and Williams and Frank Sinatra was that Sinatra seemed to be more emotionally involved with his songs, as if he'd actually lived them, whereas Williams and Vale were more like musical instruments, more vocal perfection.

Jerry Vale was very different from many other singers, because he was a calm ballad singer, rather than a fast jazz singer, and I'm very glad that we have Jerry Vale's music, because he made a foundation of ballads with emotions and feelings like many other singers have never done. He was a peaceful and calm singer, he sang soft ballads, and the orchestra playing with his singing was his own style of ballad, which are peaceful and mellow ballads. No other singer had the sounds and enunication of his voice. Percy Faith and Perry Como have the same kind of music as well.

Sorry but Jerry Vale is better than Sinatra because his voice is a musical instrument. Sinatra just sounds like a guy who sings well. I had the good fortune to have met Jerry Vale a few times in Los Angeles - I should have told him that....but I didn't.

It’s not a competition, it’s whatever music or singer hits you that magical way.
