Jerry Lawler remembers Owen Hart - Episode 11

Спорт

It's been 18 years since the wrestling world lost Owen Hart. On this episode of 'Dinner With The King', hosts Jerry "The King" Lawler and Glenn Moore talk about the night Hart passed away and his legendary career.
From being at Hart's side when he fell in Kansas City to remembering Owen's pranks, The King leaves nothing on the table when it comes to the King of Harts.
They also chat about some of the more memorable ribs of Lawler's career, including someone using The King's crown as a toilet!
Jinder Mahal is WWE Champion! And J.R. made his return to the commentary table over the weekend. The King shares his opinion about both topics.

I was 11 yo watching in my bedroom, when they announced he died I went and told my parents, they told me wrestling wasn’t real and it was part of the story line. The next morning they saw it on the news.

Same thing at our school. People were laughing like "you guys are idiots, wrestling's fake". Then people bought the local newspaper in Edinburgh and it was on page 3, full story. Finally people took it seriously.

I was a teenager and I’m in Ireland so it was in the middle of the night for me. I knew it was bad soon as we saw King. Lawler was white as a sheet and trying to hold back tears and not little ones either.

Owen Hart was the greatest. I got his autograph once. My buddy and I both snuck into the front row section at the Cincinnati gardens to get it. He was the only one that came out. He did a interview with a local reporter. I remember it was a day or 2 after he had join the nation of domination. May Owen Hart Rest In Paradise

Hey John, there's a good one of the King also on KZread. You can see him. Maybe in the early 2000s. Very good. It's just he's a great storyteller, and there's so much it feels like doesn't get to talk about everything. He's very good at details imo, but he needs a 2 to 3 hr timespan to say it all. Probably more like 4 hrs!

Horrible, horrible incident. Made even worse by how unnecessary and avoidable it was. If only he’d told Vince and the others that he had vertigo or something. It reminds me of an incident on a television show here in England in the 1980’s, the Late Late Breakfast show, where a bloke died after attempting a stunt from a great height with a bungee rope and quick release harness clip. So sad. RIP Owen.

Jerry Lawler may have been the last person Owen saw or was looking at before losing consciousness. If his face was already turning gray when the paramedics took the mask off, and Lawler was the first person (unless the ref was) to check on Owen...I'd say it was a good possibility.

As a life long fan of professional wrestling, it's sad to hear that harmless ribs are no longer done. I'm from Toronto,Canada and I think I would carry on Owen's pranks and Bret's Anti-American character (no offense) but WWE likes to have themes where foreigners are evil and it's been a while since a Canadian has been a hot heel. The “show must go on” is one of the most BS excuses those in the wrestling business use for that night. The show absolutely should’ve been stopped instantly, it was a potential crime scene, end of. Why are they all so afraid to say that? I guess what actually is applicable is the phrase “don’t bite the hand that feeds you (Vince).” Sad.

He fell during a bumper for the match; and the PPV specifically filmed the crowd as to not sensationalize the realism that was actually going on. The reason the show went on was because everything was ready to go. That, and not everybody knew what was going on in the show; they only knew their spots.
