Jermaine Dupri Says He's More Influential Than Outkast, Talks Being Short & Dating + Elton John

Музыка

Jermaine Dupri stepped up to Ebro in the Morning to tell some great stories in hip hop and music overall. He addressed a time he could've signed Outkast, Mase & Jim Jones sleeping at his house during the Harlem World days, Atlanta's dominance in hip hop, being influential in T-Boz's raspy singing style, Kriss Kross and more.
He also jumped into the conversation about short men and dating as the Bagel Boss angry man goes viral.
Before leaving, he also told a CRAZY Elton John story I bet you haven't heard before!
The WEtv documentary, 'Power Influence & Hip Hop: The Rise of So So Def' is set to premiere July 18.

This man is speaking on how influential he's been in the music industry . Outkast , although amazing , is only ONE group . This man introduced some of Hip hop and r&b's most influential artists to date . Everyone apparently has short term memory loss . Mariah is not Mariah without jermaine dupri I'm sorry . Usher , Bow Wow and TLC were bigger than life at one point . Not to mention Xscape and Da Brat . Y'all better quit frontin' on this man contributions and his legacy . He was the south at one point . FOH ...... Great Interview ........😳

Outkast wanted to sign to So So Def & look at all the acts JD help promote and become successful, that's why he feels he got more influence, he made sure everyone on his label got they 15 mins of fame or more. And all the songs he helped write and collabs and rappers he brought to Atlanta, he may not have been on the front lines rapping like Kast but you certainly can't think of the Atlanta music scene as a whole without mentioning JD

C'mon ya'll. Jermaine Dupri is very influential, past and present, with Hip Hop and R&B! He was a big part of that culture that shaped our music into a great artform which keeps it relevant today. Trying to debate JD’s influence to a group of individuals like OutKast and the Dungeon Family is thinking waay inside the box. JD can say he’s more influential due to his multi talented success as a dancer, songwriter, rapper, producer, record executive, label owner, and a host of other achievements like reality shows, artist development, multi platinum hits with his labelmates and other established music legends. There's more to influence than just longevity and being a regional Hip Hop King.

No one takes away from what you did with Kriss Kross, Brat, Xscape, etc...the question is what have you done in the last 6-8 years to even compare to that? Eventually you have to stop living in the past as it pertains to this music. We got all THAT great music from the 90's and early 2000's...what have you been able to stand on this decade? I went to the SoSo Def Reunion at the Fox. There is Atlanta and then there is the Atlanta Metro area. Bankhead has a sound. SW is different than the West End. But true all connected. Organized did a lot for the sound as well. There is really no separation because in some way like he said everybody is connected. I think it needed clarity.

I’m not sure if y’all just don’t know what influential means but I’m with JD he opened the doors and worked with artists outside of ATL and blew them up. Also to influence would be to have others wanting to do something similar to what you’ve done, JD been doing that since the beginning. Outkast haven’t had the same measure of influence and that’s documented 🤷🏾‍♂️ Outkast still Kings tho

JD, in my opinion, is influential on the production tip and the stars he bought out. We're talking Kris Kross, Usher, Da Brat, he kind of put Mariah Carey back on the map with Emancipation of MiMi. He's influential on music as a whole with Hip Hop and R&B. But as a hip hop rapper, nah OutKast got that

Hahaha i can't knock that cause is true.cause drizzy is not from atl so his name shouldn't be in this discussion.cause i thought the discussion was about the history of so so def and jd being influential but far as him saying he is influential more than outkast. I won't say that i will say he is influential cause he created entities and alot hits from kriss kross to mariah to bow wow to xscape to tlc i can keep going but i'll keep it right there.and i do agree he did came before outkast and he is part of the contribution of atlanta dirty south hip hop i salute him for that but i truly believe outkast & df brung a huge contribution to atlanta cause they influences ludacris,t.i.,field mob, crime mob, future & nappy roots.but i won't forget about kilo ali cause he is a big influence to atlanta too.

Take it from a true Atlien. I.e, South West Atlanta, Mays High, Morris Brown College, and still here since the 80's..... The most influential entertainers to "represent" Atlanta are: 1. OutKast 2. Kilo Ali 3. TLC 4. Goodie Mob and Dungeon Family 5. TI 6. Gucci Mane 7. Usher (Not from Atl) 8. JD (Not from Atl) 9. Jeezy (Not from Atl) 10. Ludacris ( Not from Atl) and Lil Jon

JD had the magic to work with anyone. As far as the influence, he worked with a lot of artist and they rocked out of Atlanta. That's really not influence, more like if you want a hit then come to Atlanta. Outkast/Organized Noize developed the Atlanta sound. They made you want to come to Atlanta and learn about it. Bankhead, West End Mall, JJ Rib Shack Peachtree. You heard that stuff and you was like I want to go. That and the sound went together. To me that's influence.
