Jeremy Jordan Will Break Your Heart With His Version of Sondheim's "Losing My Mind"

Ойын-сауық

Believe it or not, Jeremy Jordan had never heard Stephen Sondheim's song "Losing My Mind" before he performed it last year in the New York City Center presentation of the revue A Bed and a Chair. But once he learned the tune from the classic musical Follies, he was smitten. You can currently hear Jordan's take in his new 54 Below show, Breaking Character, which runs through November 13. If you can't make it to the nightclub, here's a treat: the song in its entirety.

For those of you confused about the arrangement or style in which Jeremy sang, this version was originally made for his part in Sondheim's production of A Bed and a Chair in 2013. This show contained jazzified stylings of numerous Sondheim songs sung and danced to a brand new storyline. Jeremy's character was pining over another, so you can see how this version is therefore more appropriate. Research is key, y'all. :)

+Courtney Culbreath Thanks for the info I was wondering how and why this arrangement was composed. Unfortunately, I think it's really awful! Not his performance, which I think is fine, just the arrangement. Of course, that's just my opinion and maybe I don't like jazz as much as I thought I did. But this arrangement is just all over the place, it sounds like it might have been arranged by Ives were he still around. Again my thanks to you for the info.

This arrangement was so wonderful! The harmonies in the piano changed completely and actually added to the character change. Loved it. Not heart breaking, but very nice. His voice is one of the best out there right now too.

I was going to make a sorta joke about "Well, if Winn goes nuts and turns evil on Supergirl we know what song we'll play" but this song and HIS PERFORMANCE is beautiful on so many levels. I mean 1:57-2:14 HOLY SHIT!

I love this version so much. I can feel his emotion poured into every line he sings. It makes me think of someone sitting alone on quiet night and contemplating his love for a girl. She said she loved him, or was she just being kind. He believed it when she said it but now, things have happened that he doesn't know anymore. His whole world has been turned upside down yet no matter what he does, she's still all he can think about.

I understand why some feel this "doesn't quite fit." I lack education and experience to articulate why. And I suppose it's purely a matter of personal taste, preference. In any case, starting at 2:45 I really, really, *really* felt I should be slow-dancing with Mr. Jordan.
