I love Jefferson Airplane. Jack is one of the best bass players of all time in my opinion. There was some fantastic music coming from San Francisco in the mid 60's, and it had a very unique sound. The Airplane were just a little different and had their own unique sound. They were just such a truly good band, very tight. And with Slick's vocals, they laid down some of the best music ever. Props to Signe. That first album was a great debut, but finding Grace to replace her was a stroke of luck.

A classy act! Definitely one of the greatest bands out of the sixties. And any music era. I like what they all had to say. That was a lot words from Jack! Grace! You where missed! I think you would have enjoyed the show! I was lucky had spent some time with Marty and Paul at a benifit in Northhampton Mass. That benifit is on You Tube.

V here: Spencer was my dearest friend since 1972. In his later years, he would hang out at my home in Malibu for weeks on end with my husband Dr G and I. He was intelligent and funny as hell. There were very very few of us that knew he was Charlie Chaplin’s only nephew. He was modest that way and it had nothing to do with that stupid fabricated tale of him wanting to “make it on his own”. He was an accomplished jazz musician. He was only a child in military academy majoring in music when he wrote his first orchestral composition. His dad back in the fifties would take him to jazz clubs. I was floored when he told me he played the drums for Lenny Bruce. Folks, he was a gentle soul and I miss him dearly. RIP!

Grace Slick has said repeatedly that performers of rock n roll should be young, not old. Out of principle, her last time she performed was in support of Jefferson Airplane reprisal album of 1989. This video was from 1996 and she thought she was wrong and out of place to perform in front of other people due to her age. When Paul Kanter said in jest on Grace's behalf "What are all those old people doing there?", yes it was a joke, but it was part serious, too, on her part, because she didn't believe that old people should be playing rock n roll to fans. You can agree or disagree, I'm sure those who support the Rolling Stones playing the in the last decade (as I do) would disagree, but that's her principle & she's lived by it since the 90s. (Oh, & please don't the messenger, I'm just saying what she said in her memoirs)

I think she's too hard on herself, her talents are through the ceiling. I believe she also did a track or two with linda perry on linda's solo album.....She is a magical person, her seclusion only adds to the whole mystique....when i hear her voice I am immediately transported to the 60's and thoughts I had as a ten yr old or so....especially a song like triad...like a time machine!

Mickey Thomas was absolutely robbed of an induction. If they hadn’t changed the name to Jefferson Starship, Mickey would be included in this. Mickey replaced Marty when Marty chose to leave and is a better vocalist than Marty and produced more hits under his watch. Starship is not a different band than Jefferson Airplane. Other members left, and were replaced. The name changes happened from settlements. If we view Jefferson Airplane and Starship as the same group, then Mickey Thomas is the standout, next to Grace Slick. He’s the only one left still in the band to this day. The current lineup of Jefferson Airplane with Paul Kanta performs Starship songs at shows. The nerve of them to sue Jefferson Starship over the name yet capitalise on their songs when they tour. Starship deserves an induction.
