He was and I was lucky enough to see him live once. It was at Maxwell's in Jersey City. Nothing but a pos box of a club. But I was standing 17 inches from his guitar as he played. I was in freaking awe! Maxwell's didn't have a backstage so all bands filed off the stage from the front. As we were making our way out the only doors to the stage space, Jeff slowly put his arm around me as if for support. He was in a completely different head space. We walked out together with our arms around each other's shoulders. I shook his hand and told him that was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. He thanked me modestly and we parted ways. He lived a block away from me in NYC so I'd run into him from time to time, which was really cool. Never did get off my ass to see him play SinÉ considering it was only two blocks away from me. Oh well. He was amazing and I miss him every day.

Ben Howard is a crazy good lyrical poet/songwriter. from his album I Forget Where We Were and forward is lyrical gold. also the lyrics to The Burren (which can be found here on KZread) are insanely beautiful. just wanted to share this tip with a fellow lyrics enthusiast!

The fact that the drums start on a downbeat in the middle of a bar is BEAUTIFUL. True musicianship. Buckley to me is the quintessential 90s Indie Star.

I was in this room when this happened. I won tickets from either Q101 or WCBR. My band got booked for the *later that night* show, not on the same bill as Jeff Buckley. I actually met Jeff after his show as we were loading our gear into Metro. I made the mistake of thinking I belonged on the stage he just played on. It was SO REAL. Someday, there might be another *like* Jeff Buckley, but there will always be ONLY ONE Jeff Buckley.

Cuz it's not too late... This song has blown me away since hearing it in 2010. I think anyone can relate to the feeling of getting your hopes up. Wanting to see a very special lady. But then for some reason it doesn't happen. She cancels. Or you do. But then later on you both are talking, and just as easily you want to invite her over, since to you time isn't much of a priority when they are around. It warms the fucking soul.

Barely 16, my friend had just got her drivers license and we blasted out of the suburbs. It was a summer evening and we went to the cool college coffee shop and Jeff was playing. I had never heard of him and the place was packed. His show, was electrifying, it was soo good, it rocked every one of us to our core and I handed this letter of gratitude to him on the break. He asked me and my friends to hang for a minute when the show was over and we all talked for a little while. My friends and I were utterly spellbound but he was cool like a gracious and magnanimous older brother. We were broke high school kids and he gave us each a tape of his album for free. What was he like? He was sweet, his energy and behavior was totally appropriate with 4 teenage girls who were clearly crushing on him. He had mesmerizing depth and soul to him and I recall he was kind, humble, open , genuine and strangely I had the impression he could see us and understand us.

Here to tell you I saw Jeff play live 3 times in NYC. Once at Roseland Ballroom then the Knitting Factory and again at the Mercury Lounge for a New Year's Eve performance. Seeing him live was as close as I got to having an out of body experience! Jeff was utterly mesmerizing to watch live and I feel so fortunate I got to see him play. They'll never be anyone else like him ....

Loved him since the 90s. Check out the album Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk. There are some incredible tracks on that.

My favorite line in the whole song is "Lonely is the room the bed is made, the open window lets the rain in. Burning in the corner is the only one who dreams he had you with him." Just so much room to assign your own meanings. I look at it like this, he let go of someone cause of the weight he realized relationships can bare on a man, he was young and like all young men had to let go of someone they may have truly loved. He says burning in the corner is him pretty much, the window was his exit or way out, and he had to take it, because the rain outside or exit from the love was his only solution to burning alive.

That's not how I see it mate. The room is nice and neat but betrays what's he's really feeling. The rain coming in, are like his tears wetting the room carelessly and the burn is the flame in his heart for her. There was miscommunication, they had a fire together, but it wasn't meant to last because both were too immature at the time to admit it was truly special something more. If you've never heard Richie Kotzen I suggest you check him out he's definitely on par with Jeff Buckley

Necro Orcen I know what you mean dude! Guitar you tubers don’t usually do lessons of this kind, it’s usually shred scale runs or bar chords... this type of playing is just felt out by the player. Jeff’s guitar playing at the intro is just ear melting those chord changes man... just such a nice added sound to make the song and performance that much fuller...going to learn this right now lol

This is music. A supremely talented musician playing to a crowd silently admiring him and being the mid 90's, no damn phones up in the air. Everyone there is living in the moment. RIP Jeff. Only the good die young.

I literally say this to myself every day. Coming of age at that time was magical. I see these kids today kicking around in Doc Martins and faux perfecto jackets and I've just got to smile and laugh at it all.

His voice is both angelic and ferocious. Wherever you are Jeff, I hope you're still singing!!

Jeff Buckley is one of those never appreciated enough in his time. A truly amazing artist. I say that because his music is like seeing a beautiful painting being created in real time. It’s a journey you will never forget. RIP Jeff

I’m convinced Jeff would have been one of the greatest artists of all time if he hadn’t passed away. He is one of the most talented male singers I’ve ever heard and he definitely would have been pushing boundaries too based on his other work.

I wish I could’ve experienced his voice and presence live. There’s a little hole in my heart knowing the world didn’t get to see and hear how beautiful and talented this man was.

The thing that is so magical ( and out of this world) about this song is how every word that he sang and the chords are perfectly arranged, as if it was a personal hymn of our own insecurities. I don't have words, the beauty of it is almost undescribable I don't care it still makes my chest hurt I'm gonna break...

“A personal hyme of our own insecurities” is exactly the description I was looking for. Listening to this feels as if I’ve opened my heart raw for everyone to see.

You can see at minute 7:54 when he finished the song how emotional he is involved with it. He was purely immersed during it that when it's over he's like getting himself back together... wish you were here, Jeff...

Oh.....the quivering as he sings, this is coming from a very real place. It's almost like we shouldn't be watching. And the the slight head tilt while the audience applauds, a moment of personal reflection? He allowed us to see into his heart. I've heard this song many times but watching it now, I'm going to need some time to let it all settle.....

Where can I meet the kind of people who love this as much as I do?

Greatest voice in all of rock. Freddie was the best, but Jeff’s ability to express such pain and emotion is unmatched. Only people that come close are Chris Cornell and Robert Smith.

Apart from being an amazing song with incredible singing, it's his lack of pretentiousness....he's completely enveloped in the music. Wonderful to watch
