Lyrics:
There's the moon asking to stay
Long enough for the clouds to fly me away
Oh, it's my time coming, I'm not afraid, afraid to die
My fading voice sings of love
But she cries to the clicking of time, oh
Wait in the fire
Wait in the fire
Wait in the fire
Wait in the fire
Fire
And she weeps on my arm
Walking to the bright lights in sorrow
Oh, drink a bit of wine we both might go tomorrow
Oh, my love
And the rain is falling and I believe
My time has come
It reminds me of the pain I might leave
Leave behind
Wait in the fire
Wait in the fire
Wait in the fire
Wait in the fire
Fire
Oh
Ooh, ooh, ah
And I feel that I'm drownin' my name
So easy to know
And forget with this kiss
I'm not afraid to go but it goes so slow, oh
Wait in the fire
Wait in the fire, wait in the fire, oh
Oh, wait in the fire
Wai-wai-wait
Wait in the fire, wait in the fire
Wait

Wikipedia: The song was based on an instrumental song called "Rise Up to Be" written by Buckley's collaborator, Gary Lucas. Jeff wrote lyrics inspired by his saying goodbye to his girlfriend at the airport on a rainy day, and the vocal melody came naturally.[1] In Buckley's words, "It's about not feeling so bad about your own mortality when you have true love." Here's what Jeff about Grace during a 1994 interview: "It's about not fearing death, or fearing any of those countless slings and arrows that you suffer sometimes on this earth, because somebody loves you. You're not afraid to go, you're not afraid to withstand what you need to withstand because there's a tremendous fuel that you feel regenerating inside because of someone else's love for you. That's what Grace is about. And it's just about life sometimes being so long. At the time I was anticipating leaving Los Angelos for New York. So I was waiting to go. I'm not afraid to go, I'm not afraid to die, I'm not afraid to go away from this place or from any place but it just goes so slow. And I had somebody who loved me in New York. A lot. And it was amazing. It still is."

It's unbelievable that he ever existed. I am not one to be a sycophant, at least, I hope not to be. But I find Jeff and his band to be so incredible. It's so close to bringing me to tears, every time I watch and listen to this, or the album, it just... It does that thing his voice does. It's impossible to express. It can only be experienced, and it has to be experienced by those who never got to experience it live. A bitter lesson of how unfair this world can be; at least we got to know what we missed out on, lest us never forget the millions living and dying nowhere, unseen and unheard.

When Jeff sings over and over>"wait eet" "wait eet" his father sings the end of his song "I never asked to be your mountain" the same way. His father says "please eez" "please eez" come home...crying out to Jeff, in that same high pitched haunting voice. It was so conflicting to Jeff, with the double message from father to son, I know Jeff struggled a great deal with that song. Listen if you want and you will hear what I heard. So very sad, his dad died so young, that even if their was a chance of a relationship it was cut short. I do love Jeff his music is beautiful hope he found peace, we all miss him.

I wish he could have been born in the ‘90s and did his marvelous music, and maybe still be alive, young, fresh, and giving these young generations a taste of pure music passion. Raw talent, powerful vocals, intense lyrics, and stunning presence.

I had first heard of the music of Jeff Buckley in hushed, reverent tones sometime back in the late 1990s. Just shortly after, my actual first exposure to his music occurred while I was giving a co-worker of mine a neck and back massage, something I did on the side in those days. On one day in particular, while her iTunes program ran in the background at a very low volume, a song suddenly captured my awareness. The program displayed an identifying line that read, "Jeff Buckley...Grace". Even at this very low volume, it sounded absolutely sublime to me. I ran out and obtained a CD of the full album shortly thereafter. I still consider it a treasured masterpiece to this day.
