Its time to start up the Jeep Wrangler JK Hemi swap video series!! In this video series, i will show you how to install a newer Hemi engine into your Jeep Wrangler at home!
Tons of people dream about having a powerful Hemi engine in their Jeep, however it can be very expensive to pay a shop. There arent very many DIY guides for people who are willing to tackle this project at home in their garage, until now!
In this first episode, we take a look at the different ways you can start this project. Choosing the Hemi engine is the first critical step.
The 6.4 Hemi is by far the most popular choice, due to the crazy amount of power it makes. Its also the engine that Jeep is putting in its new 392 Rubicon JL.
The 5.7 is another fantastic option, often overlooked, it can be an amazing engine swap in a jeep that also comes out more budget friendly.
The swap process will be very similar with both engines!
The next decision to make is to figure out what transmission you want to use. The 2 best options in my opinion, is the Nag1 and the 8HP70.
The nag1 will only work in 2012+ JKs, whereas the 8 speed kit from JeepSpeedShop will work with any year JK.
I did kind of talk down on the 545rfe a little too hard in this video. In the past it was the only auto trans option for hemi swaps in 07-11 JKs. Its not the ideal trans for this power, however alot of people have ran that combo with success. In my mind, if we are doing this swap, i want a trans that can handle anything i throw out of it, and 4 speeds just simply doesn't cut it for me.
Now, the 8 Speed Transmission has never been a common swap in the past. The only reason this is possible, is due to the Jeep Speed Shop 8 swap kit. If you want to run the 8 speed, you will need to source a 8HP70 from a 13-17 ram 1500 4x4. I found my transmission for $600, used with 30K on ebay. We will also have to purchase a CHALLENGER shifter from 2015-2018 any engine model.
And finally, purchase the 8 speed kit from JSS for $1,500.
In the next video, i will start a complete parts list of what parts are needed, as well as links to them.
Hopefully this video will be a good start to the Hemi Swap video series. I know it was a lot of talking, however it is critical information to consider before someone starts this swap.

Can you make comment or will you recommend the big bore stearin box I’m thinking of replacing my stearin box I watch a video that a stearin bracket will do the job So I’m not over stearin or wondering in the highway because of stearin box is lose of wore out thanks that’s all take care guys!👋

@@joseburgos7078 PSC makes good steering gearbox, AGR is ok, I have both, I say go with PSC , less headache, AGR will wear and have play more than PSC.

Tv is the death of originality. Tv shows all turn into staged, scripted, directions from some group of people in an office that don't care about the content, only about money and sponsors. Everyone on youtube that's successful needs to stay on youtube.

Definitely doing this myself for my 2010 JKU Unlimited Sport. As a Soldier in the U.S. Army and being a technician, I really appreciate the amount of detail in your videos. I’ve been watching your show for a while now and you’re literally telling me exactly what to do. I believe I’ll be going the 5.7L route not unless my wife lets me do the 6.4 (hard to find cheap). You are inspiring, I purchased a 2014 JK almost 2 years ago I just installed a 4" lift and 35s tires it is a Rubicon but one day If all goes good I am going to follow in your footsteps and do a hemi swap mark my words lol Love your videos I watch all of them Keep up the good work look forward to seeing some off rouding !!!

Been a subscriber for a really long time now and love that you've finally got around to doing this. I have a 2010 jku rubicon and want to do this. I was originally going to pay for it to be done or buy a new 2021 392 wrangler, but would love to put new life back in my rubi! Keep doing this stuff and really enjoy what you and your wife do. I have a 2015 AEV Rubicon JKU that the previous owner installed an Eldenbrock E-Force Supercharger on the stock motor .. Has excellent power and definitely solves the lack of power problem with my JK that other JK owners complain about .. Would love to have a Hemi in my Jeep but the combination I currently have will do until I manage to win the lottery and do a 6.4 swap .. Great video and info ..

Very nice, if I ever go this route will definitely have a shop do it. Did enough projects to know stuff goes wrong all the time, will let most wanted deal with something this big.

Nice man! My 5.7 grand Cherokee actually blew up so I bought it and already got a replacement motor. Gonna use the blown up motor for a possible project soonn

I'm putting the 6.4 in my '12 jk. The pentastar was scored, when I bought it. I got an aftermarket warranty for it (best decision of my life) so, it wasn't that bad on my wallet. Third time the engine got rebuilt, they finally found the scoring. The jeep is paid off and sitting in my driveway. When life hands you a lemon, you put a hemi in it.
I always wanted the 5.7 hemi,it just seems more street and daily driver friendly with still plenty of power

Just watching the video, so far very interesting. Did notice one little thing, the 545 is actually a 5 speed as well. The 45RFE was the 4 speed. Interestingly enough they 45RFE, 545RFE and 645RFE are pretty much the same transmission just with different software and torque converter. Looking forward to following the rest of it.
Funny you should start these videos now. I have an 09 that I'm starting to do research to do a 5.7 Hemi swap in. Looking forward to the upcoming installments.
I would recommend going with the 2.72:1 Sport/Sahara (NP241J) transfer case over the 4:1Rubicon (241OR) transfer case coupled to that 8-speed. The low gear will be too low with the 4:1 and if you're in sand or snow will be difficult to get wheel speed. I love the gearing with the 2.72:1 for off-road with V8 power and torque. I sold my Rubicon TC for $1100 and purchased a low mileage Sport TC (NP241J) for $300. If you're looking at it from a dollar perspective that will help recoup funds. I used the NP241J because I didn't want too low of gearing with over twice the power. Just a suggestion. As to your general question, LS all the way. Lighter and smaller overall engine which is more conducive to the Jeeps engine bay. The slight extra weight of the LS is low and center in the chassis vs. the Hemi which is taller and much heavier. Just my opinion. Mike
Thanks for all the info I took my jeep to the local shop here that said they were going to do the swap for me gave them a lot of money upfront I live here in Northern California the mechanic shop is part of MetalCloak never been so disappointed they did a ton of work on my JKU today I talk to Todd a cheap speed shop and I’m picking it up Monday hopefully I can get all the money that I put up frontAnd I’m taking it down to Todd next week thanks for all the info

I recommend using the 6.4 from the truck just because the intake manifold points to the passenger side to retain stock airbox/snorkel if you have one

It’s not hard the kit from JSS comes with a new fully programmed computer for the engine and a new separate computer for the transmission.

I've seen a lot of Jeep swaps but the best one yet was a 5.7 Cummins turbo diesel
On my wk2 with the 8hp70 trans it starts you out in 2nd gear when in low range and it’s a pretty decent crawl at idle with the 5.7.

When you get the hemi 8spd tcase all bolted together pull a overall length measurement to compare to both the JK and LJs stock drivetrain length, I'm looking to Hemi swap the wife's TJ and a 8spd would be sick for road use
The 545 transmission is a 5 speed auto used in all Chrysler 4.7 and 5.7 v8s up to about 09. The 42 rle is what came in the 07-11 JK. The diesel JKs sold overseas got the 545rfe .

Yeah I misspoke about it being a 4 speed. But wasn’t saying that it was ever in a Jk. That’s the trans that was used for these swaps

I’ve done this swap 2 times stating my 3rd. One 5.7 8hp70 and one with the 5.7 545rfe. Just started my second swap with the 5.7 8hp70. Jeep speed shop kits work awesome! If you need any info Ben hit me up.

With the reputation of the pentastar put the hemi in the jt since you didn't have to pay retail price for it you can always LS swap the jk cheap!
