It's nice to see a good practical build with a realistic owner, so many builds are extremely over baked and unnecessary heavy and over complicated, I spent 14 years build touring setups and to stay under gvm is not hard but the main stream 4x4 industry in Australia has gone stupid with weight and creats more isues than it really solves. Less is more in so may ways.
Always been a big fan of the Rubicon, this is a fantastic build.

…finally a build that’s not a ‘79 with a chassis extension, rear track correction , $30k canopy and $10k electrical fitout. Luv the owners ‘KISS’ approach and the use of hiking equipment to save space and weight. Does anyone know what brand 270 awning? ….it looked quite good.
@operation4wheelz

Mate, the awning is the Drifta Stockton 270. It’s the lightest 270 I could find. Quality is good enough. Just make sure you check all the bolts if you purchase one. Mine all fell out and I needed to loctite them all.

Nice episode of a realistic setup for most of us. Don't need to put a fortune in a car to make it do what you want 👍
Really like this format, shorter but gets to the point and shows all the good bits! Keen to see more episodes, where you talk more with the owner, ask questions about the car, his experience etc.
I like the philosophy, lights that suit, fridge that suits etc.. not necessarily biggest and best but the ones that get it done
Love the light setup mate. Shows you dont need everything to enjoy the adventure. Just gotta pack smart.

Thanks for sharing. Great rig and it is set up cleverly and practically. Good ideas there.
Nice setup. I still can’t believe people throw $200k into a vehicle and then take it bush! You simply don’t need to, the extra weight detracts greatly from the vehicles ability, and it’s fun to camp lite. Really great to see more and more people making sensible mods to their vehicles..

Yep. Camping doesn’t need a foldout house.
Love the comments on modularity and flexibility. Even after years of experience, I removed what little build I had done on my interior and returned to tubs and ammo cans. I like that my truck can return quickly to daily driver mode.
Fantastic episode, love the thought that has gone into the build

Hello from Canada
We had a very similar idea when doing our build. Ours is the 3.6l. But we have the same fridge, same suspension (including the rates), a few different ideas about the camp kitchen and storage but essentially also all lightweight gear. We did change the wheels and tires (Icon innerlock rebound pro with 295/70/17 Yokahama XAT) which are fantastic off-road but it's also a super heavy and wide combo which has made a massive hit to fuel economy and power. I'm actually thinking of putting a new set of 2 ply tires on the stock rims so we can swap them out depending on what we are doing. Would love to get them in pizza cutter 255/80/17 or 255/85/17.
@operation4wheelz
5 ай бұрын
Hi mate. The biggest hit I had on fuel economy was going from the KM2 - KM3. The KM3s are only slightly bigger, but the KM3s are a 3 ply and way heavier. The tyre ply is definitely something people don’t think too much about.
@FourLowAdventures
5 ай бұрын
It's always the same problem with 4x4, can't have your cake and eat it too 😂 2 ply is so much better on road but then you'll be thankful for the 3 ply when times get tough. Btw if you are in Vic and want to do a comparison between our Jeeps let me know, we seem to have the same idea but with different choices.

Hi Ronny, i have a question out of the video, please . What do you think about g class and the r51 nissan? I'm sure they are on the thinking list of many future second hand owners (one of them is me ) ... TIA :)
Not a Jeep Guy either but a few points too add. #1 that $15,000 price tag is only in modifications and not the price of the vehicle. That is something for many to consider when building a 4WD. #2 the fact that the vehicle has focused on Simplicity is what truly helped it stay under the factory GVWR(GVM). Thanks to that it helps the vehicle be a bit more efficient compared to a similar vehicle that could be fully loaded and more complex on the setup. #3 speaking of efficiency I certainly hope that powertrain hold up. Out here in the states I know the gas engines and the automatic transmissions from Jeep(more like FIAT now) don't have the best reputation. With all that said if it is keeps simple in that way I'm sure it will do great no matter what.

Hi mate. The 2.2 was available for the rest of the world for a couple of years. It got discontinued with the 3L diesel came out in the US. It’s a shame because it seems to be a much better package. The 3.6 is the only other engine available in Australia

@operation4wheelz thanks. We don't get it here in Canada. The 3.6 is the popular engine (it was the only option from 2012-18 I believe. I've know a few people with the 3.0 diesel. But nobody that had it long term. My uncle has the 392 V8. I'm not a jeep guy myself but I would have personally chose the 2.0L turbo as it was cheaper, lower maintenance but offers better low end torque. The 3.6 needs to Rev its tits off to do much.
