Jeep Overland Car Camping - Artifacts, Arrowheads, and bad Camp Cooking

Jeep Overland Car Camping - Artifacts, Arrowheads, and bad Camp Cooking
This is the last complete Overland Car Camping trip I made in my 2013 Jeep Wrangler JKU Rubicon. On the next trip this Jeep caught fire and burned to the ground.
In this trip I explore some of the most remote parts of the Oregon desert in my Jeep. I discover some interesting artifacts, camp in an amazing place, travel some great trails, and eat some of my questionable camp cooking.
Join me for another awesome overland car camping adventure!
As always I appreciate all your support as I travel the remote parts of the west sharing my experiences here on KZread.
For rooftop tents and other overload gear...

    Good stuff my friend. I like how you re putting all the artifacts back so that some other person(s) down the road can find some cool stuff and show their kids and grandkids. I was in TN a couple of years ago riding a dual sport all along the old trails and logging roads etc. I stopped and stomped around and camped from a tent pretty regular. I was fortunate enough to find several arrow heads and several that were in what I would call hunting condition. They were still sharp and I found some old scrapers and misc broke chips etc. I left them all as well. I am not 100% sure what the laws are in TN, but for me it was more of giving someone else hopes of finding something cool like that is why I left them there. Thanks again for all you do in your videos to not only show us around but throwing in the history for additional education makes it a fun perk as well. Thanks again and have a blessed week sir. Dale

    Another great exploring video, albeit a sad ending to your vehicle. But, with your optimism and quest to explore, I'm sure your next vehicle will be better suited for your treks. I came home on leave from the Marine Corps to Piute County, Utah in 1984. I went hiking with my dad in Kingston Canyon and we found a near perfect arrowhead, the tip was busted off. We pondered the arrowhead's history, did the hunter miss and fracture the tip, did a cow step on it? Great video Casey, brought back fond memories.

    I know my friend. It was definitely bittersweet finishing the editing on this one. I really enjoyed that trip and it just made me remember how much I really liked that Jeep. I didn’t have a lot of time to get gear out of the Jeep because a brush fire was starting and I had to tend to that. But I did get some. And thankfully by the skin of my teeth I was able to prevent a wildfire starting as a result of it. I’m bummed to have lost so much gear, but It’s better than I would have felt if I was responsible for burning 15,000 acres of that rangeland.

    It looks like an awesome trip especially for being the last successful full trip in that Jeep. It sure is cool knowing that people lived there for a while. If it was there might be primitive fishing hooks and gorges around the lake.

    Nick's recipe is correct. Hardtack (aka ship's biscuit) will last practically forever, but is inedible in dry form. If you added it to the elk and veg stew from your other video at the beginning of the boil, it would reconstitute fully and be really tasty and filling. Again, sorry about your Jeep. Another great, educational and inspiring video. Sorry to hear about the fire. Did you ever find the cause?

  • @CoyoteWorks01

    @CoyoteWorks01

    I don’t know for sure the cause. But the most plausible one I’ve heard is a transmission line wearing through and dripping transmission fluid onto the hot area near the back of the motor. Apparently there is a transmission line along the bell housing that can wear through from vibration. I’ll probably never know for sure but that seems really likely. Cheers!

    So you did not go up that little Hill near the end? What was on the other side? As far as locations go can you is any indication I only curious within 50 75 Mi LOL were you in Far Southeast Lakeview or east of there? I understand if you don't answer I keep everything pretty secret myself I'm not going to tell people for things are so they can ruin them but there's a lot of dry lake beds out in the Hart Mountain area. I've been enjoying your channel I just found it a couple weeks ago. I don't spend much time on KZread so it was kind of nice to find somebody interested in the same type of thing I am I found a lot of petroglyphs and pictographs out toward that area that is what draws me toward it. Thank you for sharing your adventures I will follow along from here on thank you

    To prepare for eating, soak it in water or milk for about 15 minutes, and then fry in a buttered skillet. You can eat it with cheese, soup, or just plain with a dash of salt.

It works well but your experience has raised concerns. I have 2 fire extinguishers close at hand, however would like to know what caused your fire (or any clues) and if there is anything that you will do preemptively if you get another Jeep.

    I don’t know for sure but a couple of guys have mentioned they think it may have been a fuel line that ruptured. Apparently there is a place where the fuel line runs across or near the transmission where it can vibrate and wear through. Everything they describe about how it would start a fire seems a lot like what I witnessed with my fire. So for sure on my next Jeep I’m going to look over the fuel line and make sure it is well padded and protected at any point where it could vibrate and wear agains anything. Cheers my friend. Hope that helps!

Here's a link to an article with a bit of information on hardtack as well as the recipe I use. Me to my friend. They are sure taking their sweet time with the process. I’m pretty confident they will cover what they consider replacements cost of the vehicle itself. But it looks like they won’t cover the approx 10k in tools, gear, and accessories on and in it. Big lesson here in what to check for with your insurance coverage if you have a rig stocked up and kitted out for camping and overlanding.
