JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CRANK BUT NO START NO COMMUNICATION DIAGNOSIS & FIX

In today's video we get called out to take a look at a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/ a 4.0l inline 6 cylinder engine. The customers complaint is that the vehicle used to crank and start but it would immediately stall. At this point the vehicle no longer starts at all, it just cranks. Follow along as my buddy ‪@OzMechanics‬ helps us diagnose, troubleshoot and fix this broken down Jeep.

    Just had my wife's 2021 wk2 with the V6 fixed for this issue. Could only get it to crank and not fail when using the remote start. It would always start after the fail. After 2 dealer visits they finally tested the Fuel system and found it needed the filter and sending unit. Little to no pressure, but no error codes or anything. All at only 25k miles. Crazy. I know this video is on an older Grand cherokee but hope it helps someone who is searching fort answers on a newer jeep.

    I have a '97 GC that's purely an off-road toy that had been parked for over 3 years. I went to start it about 6 months ago and had the EXACT same problem as this customer. I have scoured the internet for answers, but couldn't find anything definitive, but it wasn't a huge deal because the GC isn't a daily driver. I started looking into it more just a few days ago. This is BY FAR the most informative video I have seen! Very well explained, gentleman! Even before seeing your video, I ordered a reman PCM because it really couldn't be anything else.

    @@scientist100 But if you have a car or battery charger, booster nearby you can always make sure it's full on way to a call just in case. I ordered one. It was $30 off retail price on Amazon today so that made the price more appealing as a tool that could get me out of a jam on a job. If it's a job where it'll be overnight then I generally take my little $35 NOCO 1 amp charger and use that so it charges the battery and if someone were to steal it night like I would be out $100 rather $35, actually about a little less than $32.50 as I have a couple plus a 5 Amp charger. 100Amp schumacher maintainer for programming, Die Hard booster box that i've had a few years I got from Menards for about $119 before taxes at the time as it has a built in inverter, 5v USB plugs, mini compressor for airing tires up in a jam.

  • @MrXyzasdf

    @MrXyzasdf

    I have the second-gen Autowit. The Autowit has more than enough capacity to jump a completely flat battery but because it lacks an "override mode" whereby it won't allow current to pass if it doesn't detect a small voltage at the leads, this is a protection mechanism to prevent accidental discharge. To overcome this limitation, simply carry along with the Autowit a 12volt tool battery with leads to trick the Autowit, allowing it to jump a completely flat battery. If you don't want to do this, look for other super cap jumper on Amazon with an override.
