Jeep Cherokee Extreme snow start

Found my Jeep under snow. Morning it was -20 C.
Been sitting there whole winter. Gas was quite old, so it would not idle at start.

I had much newer Grand Cherokee and that thing let me down few times. I always liked XJs so I bought one (with factory 2.5 turbo diesel engine) and I love that thing! Way more reliable and it's a great off road vehicle.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. Jeep made millions of xj's for that very reason. What an awesome rig. I miss mine dearly.

Damn bro, let that thing warm up a bit before you go flooring it in those low temps, especially since it obviously hadn’t run in a while. I mean, I know those engines are awesome, I have one myself but damn, instantly went into the rpms. Anyway I’m not surprised, those Jeeps just keep on tickin no matter what.

I kinda do this way every year when is snow with my Jeeps. This year, 2023, we haven't had snow so... I have a 1992 Cherokee XJ 4.0 HO, a 1987 Wrangler YJ 4.2 and a 2005 Grand 4.7 HO. All with the best tires for the all round. The XJ rules at all times, no matter what. Love the car, is maybe the best conceived and built 4x4 ever. However, the guy in the clip should've let the engine heat a litle before going out of the snow... A car serves you best if you love her and give her what she needs.

I have a 93 with a 7 inch lift and 36 super swampers on it. It was a beast when it was stock now it's beyond that now. But still good to let them warm up first to let oil flow and stuff lol.

Even though theoretically the Wj's are tougher than the Xj, practically, they are not. At equal (almost) dimensions with the Xj's, the WJ's are heavier, lower and need more power to do the same job. A lifted WJ vith a V8 can match a XJ 4.0. A standard WJ 4.0 will never match a standard XJ 4.0, they having the same engine. I have XJ, YJ and WJ and I know what I'm talking about.

with those low temps in Finland when starting up, less rpms would be good for your engine I guess...do you have a straight pipe - sounds good ! by the way - where is this ? Oulu or far north ?

  • @cjspoof

It's a good engine, driven only 190 000 km.s with good engine oil, it can take these rpms with no harm. There is somekind of aftermarket silencer behind Catalysator, but intake is eguipped with free flow filter. Its situated upper Pirkanmaa region.
