It's both heartbreaking and inspiring to hear Jean's story, from her challenges to her successes. I'm glad the industry seems to be changing for the better, and can't wait to see even more shows with POC ensembles

What I hear as an argument in favor of doing this is that non-white people want to see people that look like them and situations that resemble their experiences. But white people feel the same way. I'm not bringing this point up as a social thing. I'm bringing it up from a business perspective. A predominantly white nation like the United States, Canada, the U.K, France... well pretty much all of Europe will have many more white people in the TV viewing market. And since the goal of TV is to get as many viewers as you can, it makes more business sense to cater toward what the largest segment of your market's population wants.

@@Thrifty032781 this issue with your argument is that since the beginning of television there hasn’t been a shortage of representation for white people. White people have had a monopoly in TV & film for so long. All the while new immigrants, new families & they have new stories to tell. Ethnic people want equality on sharing their perspectives & seeing their artists get chances to tell these stories too. Why do white people feel threatened that they won’t see themselves on TV as much anymore, when since the start they have a backlog of film that represents them. Why not share the space instead of being upset?

If people thought like you, Fresh prince of Bel air, Kenan and kel and numerous other shows with people of colour and immigrants wouldn't exist let alone be popular.

But how does it make business sense to give Asians, or Latinos, or black people, a chance to tell their story just for the sake of giving them representation? If all people want to see their own kind represented on TV, then how does it make sense to cater to the people with the lowest numbers? They make up a smaller number of viewers. TV producers want MORE viewers, not fewer.

@@AlexRod9646 Sure, let's just play the racism card. Why not? I mean, I hate to break it to you, but having success in show business is not a right afforded to you because of your race. Neither is having stories with people who look like you.

It makes me so sad to know how hard the cast members had to fight for their voices and accurate + respectful portrayals while filming. I hope these stars know that revealing their struggles with scripts/producers/cultural inaccuracies on set is such a helpful and honorable thing to do. It's clear that these actors are knowledgeable and each have their own impressive paths - I am rooting for you each all the way.

She's my favorite character because I really see myself and my mom in her. Jean Yoon is an amazing actress and writer.

It so sad that Kim Convenience got cancelled to many issue's in behind the scene and I feel bad for all the cast. Hope maybe Jean can be a writer to a new comedic tv show that have same energy like Kim Convenience because she have a plenty of experience

Im so glad that movement is happening. I hope the situation improves even further. She is such a great actress and I hope she gets every opportunity to tell the world more stories. Not only stereotypical ones. Im so interested in what her ideas for more things were.

Now thats a real Actress right there. What a fantastic job Done by Jean Yoon.

She is fabulous. I imagine she would really play Shakespeare very strongly. It is sad to hear how she lost work and the chance to simply develop without racial stereotyping getting in the way. She is very fine.
