A CBC original comedy, KIM'S CONVENIENCE, the funny, heartfelt story of the Kim family and their downtown convenience store. In the 5th season, the family faces one of its toughest challenges yet as they navigate a difficult medical diagnosis for Umma (Jean Yoon). With Appa (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) stepping up as the primary caregiver, and a recently graduated Janet (Andrew Bang) moving back home, boundaries are inevitably crossed. Meanwhile, Jung's (Simu Liu) time away at business school tests his relationship with Shannon (Nicole Power) as Kimchee (Andrew Phung) reconnects with his family, and his high school crush.

It's hard to believe she was so inexperienced. Her performance on this show was amazing. She showed both the strength and the vulnerability of her character without going overboard. I think Janet was the character the audience most rooted for.

My parents are Japanese/Indonesian. They insisted I'd love this show after watching the episode where Janet moves out and is given a rice cooker....every time I've moved, my dad has given me a rice cooker. I have several....and I love rewatching this series over and over, and my friends do too!

I recommend listening to his "We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story". Simu Liu's epic story in hardly concluded but the story so far is really worth a listen. (I suppose you can read the book too but having him read his own words and tell his own story had a lot of impact for me.)
