    I have tried several kinds of UV resin. I had itchy swollen eyes and red skin patches on my face from others kinds of resin. So bad I thought I would have to give up my love for using resin in my creations. Then I tried JDiction and have never looked back. No itchy eyes or swelling, no bad reaction at all. There is no smell like the others sometimes had. My resin of choice is JDiction, both hard and soft types of UV resin.

    Tried several myself also - can't beat JDiction - clear as glass, hard as a rock, very few bubbles, fast cure time, low odor, no yellowing yet - but gloves and at least a facemask should still be worn.

    Yeah, resin is super dangerous! You should be using a respirator if you can or a mask in a well ventilated area (like n95) if you can’t. And also try not to get it on your hands, wear gloves if possible. Safety/sunglasses can also help but I don’t really consider them mandatory. Don’t know if you’ve ever taken a chemistry class before but working with resin is the same, you should be protecting your hands, lungs, and eyes ❤

    Great video thank you had a ? About the lamps and the watts I just watched a video and she said no higher than 9 watts than another one said 50 watts is the higher better? Does it make a difference in which brand up resin you use?

  • @JOTZdesigns

    @JOTZdesigns

    Thank you! From my experience and previous research, 36w is the ‘standard’ wattage used by most when it comes to UV resin. As you mentioned, some will say to go with more or less. The fact is any UV light will cure UV resin. The difference lies in time. Higher wattages will cure the resin faster, but because of that, the resin may get very hot while curing. Depending on your project, it may or may not affect it (like if you have inclusions that could be affected by the heat). It could also cause blushing (where the surface looks like it had oil on it or something). Going with something like 9 or 12w is just fine, but it will take longer to cure the resin. You can even use the Sun, but it will take longer to cure as well. One way to avoid blushing with a higher wattage lamp is to have the light farther away from your project, then about 30 seconds in, bring the lamp closer and cure normally. This gets the resin started in the curing process, but like a dimmer switch rather than just full on. I hope that makes sense! Each resin may cure a little differently, but there would be no reason I can think of that you would need a different wattage for different brands. UV light is UV light, some are just ‘brighter’ than others. Thanks for watching! 🧡☺️

    @@JOTZdesigns there is a difference, 6-9 watts LED UV lights are different than your regular nail lamps with 20-36 watts of UV light. They suggest you go no higher than the 36 watts on the nail lamps but the 9 watt LED lights are ample. (might take a little bit longer to cure)

    thanks for the review of this resin. I have been looking at purchasing it from Amazon and there is a kit available with a uv light. Do you recommend using a specific lamp?

  • @JOTZdesigns

    @JOTZdesigns

    Happy to share! The wattage of a UV lamp will determine if the resin needs to be cured in a longer or shorter period of time, but that’s about it. I have heard only good things about the lamp that comes in the kit. From their website, I see it is a 36w lamp, which is most often the recommended/“standard” wattage for UV resin. It’s easy to move around, but it is smaller than some out there (like the one I use in my videos). So really, if it seems like the right fit for you, go for it! I personally cure this UV resin for 6min, and let it sit for a few min before touching the resin. Thanks for watching! ☺️🧡

    Hi Elisa! Well I got my kit and tried it out last night. I have some wood keychains that I painted black and then I paint a mandala design on top of the black. The resin is used to seal and protect so only a thin coat is needed. The lamp included in the kit is 10watts. The first couple of pieces took abt ten irradiations to cure properly. Then I remembered your lamp has a metal tray so I tried another keychain and placed it on a piece of foil. It cured in five irradiations. I like the resin, very easy to use and is very clear when dry but I suspect because my background is black that may be effecting the curing time. I emailed the company for some feedback. I will continue to experiment and if I continue to like the resin I may just purchase a stronger lamp. Again, I am glad I found your video, it has been helpful and I enjoyed seeing the great artwork you create! You are very talented!

  • @JOTZdesigns

    That’s good to know! I’m a bit disappointed that their website leads one to believe it’s a 36w lamp, though! The black certainly can make a difference in curing time. Having something like the foil will help bounce the light around, for sure, and would have been something I’d suggest, glad you thought of it! I’m happy you like the resin, so far! Thank you for the compliments, means a lot! 🧡☺️

    Hi, I'm a newbie, I just got the kit and tried it for the first time right now. I made a key chain and I thought I didn't everything correctly but after curing it I notice it was sticky with my finger prints. Is it possible it didn't cure all the way. I cured it a few times on each side.

  • @JOTZdesigns

    @JOTZdesigns

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, most likely it was not cured long enough. The light that comes with the JDiction kit is 12w, I think. I use a 36w light, which is what is used most often with UV resin. You just need to cure it longer. I’d recommend doing some small tests, even if it’s just small amounts on parchment paper. Keep in mind that if you color the resin, or have inclusions, it will make it take longer to cure. And if anything is opaque, it could prevent it from curing at all. Thanks for watching! 🧡☺️

  • @lindao7887

    @lindao7887

    Жыл бұрын

    Some keychains are pretty thick, UV likes to work best with thin layers, try 2-3 thin layers. Also, if its still sticky - try setting it in direct sunshine, that'll cure it right up! 🙂Oh, and one more thing, room temperature makes a big difference, it should be fairly warm, JDiction likes it at least 74 degrees inside, if you can't get it at that temp, just set it in a warm cup (not hot) of water for a few min. before use.

  • @galaxykitten6849

    @galaxykitten6849

    If it’s still sticky after curing for a long time then it might be oxygen in the air stopping the chemical reaction. If you put your sticky piece into a shallow bowl/cup of water and cure both sides then it should harden right up.

  • @JOTZdesigns

    The brand of polymer clay used to support pieces does not matter. I would recommend kneading it in your hands a little though, to warm it up and make it more pliable, if it is brittle. If you meant which brand of polymer clay I made the pieces from, for the purposes of coating with UV resin that does not matter. I personally like Sculpey Premo, though. Thanks for watching! 🧡☺️

    I’ve heard that has happened with several types of UV resin, but I’ve never experienced it. It typically is an issue with the bottle, how it was shipped/stored, bad batch, etc. I’d recommend contacting JDiction directly (website, FB, IG) and let them know. Thanks for watching!

    I was highly disappointed in this overrated UV resin. I use a 48 watt light and this stuff yellowed after two minutes of curing... Did the same thing under 36 watt light. Did not de- gas very well for me compared to other UV resins that I use. Have seen a lot of KZread channels recommended this stuff but cannot help to think that it is just for paid promotion. I have been working with UV resin for nearly a year and sell my products in a local store, I have did extensive testing with several brands of uv resin and this stuff did not performed particularly well, even up against some other cheaper stuff. I also recently tested their low viscosity resin and the viscosity is no different than the original.

    I’m sorry to hear you had that experience. I use a 36w light and have never had anything yellow, and I typically let them cure for 3-6min. I’ve also not had issues with bubbles unless they were created coming out of the bottle or I added something that caused bubbles when I mixed it in. I usually fish out the bubbles with a toothpick and/or pop them with a lighter. Hope you find one that works for you. Thanks for watching!

    @@JOTZdesigns bubbles isn't something I've had any problems with either, it just the same that bubbles would not dissipate as quick as other UV resin side of used when hit with an embossing gun oh, I also had a couple of instances where a very large bubble formed in a very thin layer when being cured, something I haven't seen with any other UV resin.. the first thing I do when testing a new UV resin is to make a piece and label it to sit in my window for yellow testing and I was sad to see it start yellowing pretty quickly get paid. Because other than that I have no problems with the resin itself... except for the low viscosity not being very low viscosity. As I mentioned before, I have a 48 watt light has a 36w option.... sunuv 9.

    So you didn't say why you spread with something other than a toothpick to prevent bubbles. Do you know why bubbles come from toothpicks? You didn't explain that. Wood is porous, no matter how dry. Thus, there will always be pockets of air. This is why mixing with wood tools like toothpicks to popsicle sticks will have bubbles (at least the first time you use them. Use them over and over, the pours will be sealed). If you're going to use wood in any form to mix, coat them before you use them. Otherwise, you're going to get more bubbles than you expected.

  • @JOTZdesigns

    @JOTZdesigns

    Yes, I do know why bubbles come from toothpicks and wooden sticks, and have explained it in other videos, comments, and I even mentioned I didn’t want extra bubbles from it in this one. Sometimes it can make a difference, and other times it just doesn’t matter. In the beginning of the video I used a toothpick and had no issues, and only changed to the brush because a brush spreads resin on the sides better than a toothpick ever could. It had nothing to do with bubbles. And most likely, using a toothpick wouldn’t have made a difference in the later part of the video, when I mentioned why I wasn’t using a toothpick. I often stir large batches of resin with a wooden stick and have zero issues with bubbles that are created because of the type of project I am doing (ie a pour rather than in a mold). This quick video was not intended to be an all inclusive informational video, and frankly, since KZread is not what pays my bills, none of my videos will have ALL the information there is available in them. Thanks for sharing the info for my viewers to read, though! And thanks for watching.
