    I found this for you Micky Drake, no one would ever believe your trip accross the RR track and spinning the VW around on the square in downtown Huntland.Tenn,360 after 360. Your emergency brake no way survived.(after football curfew of course) Good thing that VW couldn't talk Ha.

    My '64 spec. Calls for only 4 clicks to set the brake. Streched cables cause the ratchet mech. To explode. Early bugs will require needle nose vice grips to grab the cable and feed them into to handle. You are welcome. Cheers!

    When you were about to tuck the boot under the carpet, there was reinforcement material (like mine) that disappeared before you began actually tucking it in. Is it nearly impossible to do with the reinforcement in place? I'm about to replace the Heater Control Cable and watched the video to see how to tuck it in....it's a tight fit.

    I love how internet people think a youtube video is the actual timeframe it takes to do certain jobs especially on a 65 yr old vehicle let alone you do not do this every day cause I'm not always working on all makes models every second

    One thing to note.... if you DROP any pieces, such as the ratchet (which fell quite nicely out of the EM Brake assembly when I moved it), they will be excruciatingly difficult to retrieve from the tunnel below.....

  • @Sam_Mebane

    Yep, a long magnet or long claw retrieving tool is helpful in those cases! Been there, done that!

    I would have liked to see you show how the toothed ratchet snaps back into the tunnel. Mine is loose and floppy there and I am not sure why. Oh, love the little socket driver with the clearance hole too. Gotta get me one of those.

  • @Sam_Mebane

    @Sam_Mebane

    The ratchet at the tunnel is just keyed into the tunnel with a little slot at the base. You could use a dab of RTV to hold the ratchet in place at the tunnel.

  • @johnwarfn

    The circlip that holds the pin is teeny tiny but it’s there. Use an awl or screwdriver to spin it around and feel for it. Break out your reading glasses too.

    where is the original trim that was on the carpet prior the install as now it looks a bit unfinished?

  • @Sam_Mebane

    @Sam_Mebane

    3 ай бұрын

    In the trash. The trim isn't original, it's a piece that is installed on "Premium" carpet kits. The boot is normally installed before the carpet kit, but since this handle had to come apart for repair we had to remove the boot and couldn't get it in place with the trim. That is probably why VW never used a trim piece around the carpet. Either way, once the seat is in place you can't see the bottom of the boot.

    Was the trim on the carpet damaged? Is that why it was gone and not re-installed?

  • @JBugsVWParts

    @JBugsVWParts

    7 жыл бұрын

    Good eye Jeremiah, yes. The carpet kit was previously installed and the trim came off when we pulled the carpet up. Seeing as the brake boot trims out the hole when it's installed properly and VW never used any trim there it isn't really a big deal.

    Is the new break handle different

  • @JBugsVWParts

    @JBugsVWParts

    7 жыл бұрын

    +Fairy Of The Dawn There are 2 general styles of emergency brake handles used in Beetles, Ghias, Type 3s and Things. The one shown in the video is the more common that has the cross bar that the cables attach to. We list that at JBugs.com item number 113798305A. The other style handle has loops on the sides that the cables attach to item number 4549. Both handles install and operate the same way, the only difference being how the cables attach to the handle.

    With my fingers, it wasn't rusted in place so it was easy. Stuck pins can be a pain, soak with PB Blaster and use a hammer and punch if needed.

    The levers to the left and to the right of the emergency brake are for the heaters and floor vents. We touch base on them a bit in our heater box video here: www.jbugs.com/product/video-beetle-heater-box-installation.html?Category_Code=JBUGS-Videos.

    What do the red and black handles do?

  • @Sam_Mebane

    @Sam_Mebane

    3 ай бұрын

    The red handle opens and closes the heater boxes, the black handle opens and closes the rear footwell heater box flaps. In short, they are the heater controls.
