Reason why Wintersun´s music sounds like " midevil " is that it´s music genre is power metalfolk, metal neoclassical, metalmelodic death metal and black metal. In 1997, Mäenpää served in the Finnish military as part of his national defense duty, during which he contracted tuberculosis. The diagnosis was late, and Mäenpää required surgery to remove part of his lung, hospitalizing him for months. The song "Beautiful Death" would later be inspired by this event. one metal drummer said something along the lines of making easy things sound more complicated than they are or just speeding them up... meaning that you have one beat going through, like the kicks here and you lay patterns and syncopations on top of them, like cymbals here. another drummer who does this is darkside from mgla check his cymbal game out, took me by surprise: kzread.info/dash/bejne/foCD2M1pfNrbd84.html metal is a very straightforward kind of music usually and almost requires nothing else outside 2/4 or 4/4 or sometimes 3/4 for the triplet feel, although a lot of modern bands start to incorporate more off-feeling signatures (5/4, 7/8 and the likes) or just play in a way that makes them sound like it, even when they are still 4/4. my point being: if it serves the song, nothing has to be overly complicated. the role of drums in metal is that of the time giver, so quite different from jazz where you can break out into a solo or the drummer responds actually to the band being the sort of "red line" throughout the song.

Kai is a machine, he plays now drums for Nightwish.
Best eyebrows on KZread. Wish mine were half that thick.
Danny Walker have actually mentioned Kai Hahto to be one of his favourite drummers. This was in some drummer magazine over ten years ago.
A whole city's electricity can be supplied by one Kai Hahto. True story.
danny walker has played in some of my favorite bands like phobia, uphill battle, etc.
You went to school with Danny Walker?! Intronaut/Uphill Battle Danny? I love his drumming!
Nicholas Barker from Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir etc. Absolute beast!
Airwolf! Fuck yeah!
Check out, behemoth "ov fire and the void" john rice drum cam.. absolutely incredible double bass action,
"...and Airwolf" is the new T-SHIRT!
You went to high school with Danny Walker?! Danny Walker of Intronaut?!

The whole song: Wintersun - Sons Of Winter And Stars (TIME I Live Rehearsals At Sonic Pump Studios) kzread.info/dash/bejne/hqBpto-gnLfKiNo.html
How about Devin Townsend - Hear me! drum playthrough by 666samus? (he also recorded the album version). Unreal speed and precision!

Yeah he was in the drumline for a week. Had the cleanest rolls of anyone in the line, even the seniors. Then he left, probably because it wasn't challenging at all and went on to do other cool stuff.

@@garrettmillerdrums I am such a huge fan of his,I wish he was still in Intronaut.
You are totally right. As the viewer it's nice to have context too. Would prefer playthrough videos over live ones.
Shuffle sounding!
Kai Hahto is a legit professional jazz drummer if I'm not completely wrong. Been following him since rotten sound days, I find it funny how is getting the nightwish pension now :P
THis is so sad. This song is so epic and the drums are epic in correlation with the music and the other instruments. You should definately listen to the song.

The sonic pump videos would be perfect, they show a fair bit of drums too
Bit stoned now, but totally get that swing example you were giving about punk and this kind of metal.
And now he is drumming for Nightwish ;)
Kai has also history of playing jazz
i've only seen a couple of videos of yours so far , and i like the colourful language you seem to use to explain what's happening to normies like me

Please do a Video about the swing in matal and fast punkrock! Very interessted!
Byzance is actually a series of Meinl 😉
Kai hato used to play in a band called rotten sound. There's some drum footage on KZread around, that playing is even crazier
Kai Hahto is also the drummer in Nightwish
lol...Eyes light up at 3:07 CHIIINAAA!
Dude, you should really check out the full song, live at sonic pump studios :)
Kai Hahto has played some jazz as some people have mentioned he has even played with Jonas Hellborg
Hail murder by dark funeral. Best drummer in metal
Eloy Casagrande - Desperate Cry,it's a good one.
he should react to winter madness, thats straight 7 minutes of blast beats
Kai haito is also an excellent jazz drummer. Hes one of my favourites. Please react to gavin harrison sound of muzak. Probably.more up your street but the version at modern drummer announced by simon Phillip's. Nothing to not like :)
one metal drummer said something along the lines of making easy things sound more complicated than they are or just speeding them up... meaning that you have one beat going through, like the kicks here and you lay patterns and syncopations on top of them, like cymbals here. another drummer who does this is darkside from mgla check his cymbal game out, took me by surprise: kzread.info/dash/bejne/foCD2M1pfNrbd84.html metal is a very straightforward kind of music usually and almost requires nothing else outside 2/4 or 4/4 or sometimes 3/4 for the triplet feel, although a lot of modern bands start to incorporate more off-feeling signatures (5/4, 7/8 and the likes) or just play in a way that makes them sound like it, even when they are still 4/4. my point being: if it serves the song, nothing has to be overly complicated. the role of drums in metal is that of the time giver, so quite different from jazz where you can break out into a solo or the drummer responds actually to the band being the sort of "red line" throughout the song.
Now you should check the actual song. Epic song
Kenneth Shaulk of Candiria
Kai Hahto is so good! Nightwish nowadays btw :D
Ken Schalk and Candiria, especially Constant Velocity..., and I would love if you did some Deathspell Omega.

Yeah, this is pretty tidious to watch and listen. Try out the Sonic Bump Studio -version.
You should check out the drummer of Cattle Decapitaion. He is an AK-47. This song reminds me of Blind Guardian. Super epic and huge.
you should check out the drum only video from Archspire. He plays on 350bpm ;) its amazing to look at him
Kai Hahto!
Please do David Gray of Akercocke! Either He is Risen or Valley of the Crucified !
One can program anything. But... to have enough knowledge to program it is entire another matter, which even to a drummer is black magic that they don't fully understand. And so, YOU can't program everything is true, but one can program anything is also true.
Check out baard kolstad's Illuminate!
You went to HS with Danny Walker?

A fun fact: Kai is left-handed.
