Jonathan Larson was an American composer and playwright noted for exploring the social issues of multiculturalism, addiction, and homophobia in his work. Typical examples of his use of these themes are found in his musicals Rent and tick, tick...BOOM! He received three posthumous Tony Awards and a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the rock musical Rent. Completed in 1991, was an autobiographical "rock monologue" entitled 30/90, which was later renamed Boho Days and finally titled tick, tick...BOOM! This piece, written for only Larson with a piano and rock band, was intended to be a response to his feelings of rejection caused by the disappointment of Superbia. For his work on Rent, Larson was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score; the Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Book of a Musical, Outstanding Music, and Outstanding Lyrics; the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical; the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical in the Off-Broadway category; and Obie Awards for Outstanding Book, Outstanding Lyrics, and Outstanding Music.

Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda makes his feature directorial debut with tick, tick…BOOM!, an adaptation of the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, who revolutionized theater as the creator of Rent. The film follows Jon (Academy Award nominee and Tony Award winner Andrew Garfield), a young theater composer who’s waiting tables at a New York City diner in 1990 while writing what he hopes will be the next great American musical. Days before he’s due to showcase his work in a make-or-break performance, Jon is feeling the pressure from everywhere: from his girlfriend Susan, who dreams of an artistic life beyond New York City; from his friend Michael, who has moved on from his dream to a life of financial security; amidst an artistic community being ravaged by the AIDS epidemic. With the clock ticking, Jon is at a crossroads and faces the question everyone must reckon with: What are we meant to do with the time we have?

The film's beautiful, didn't even know Jazmine made a cover of this song. I highly recommend watching the movie. Jonathan Larson's an amazing artist and his art needs to be seen/heard. Jazmine's vocals were such a great bonus to the film though!
This definitely has that 90's r&b feel to it which is so fitting to the movie. Appreciate all that this film is and has given. Beautiful cover.
This song played out during the credits of the movie while showing pictures of THE REAL JONATHAN LARSON is like a LOVE LETTER sung to him. It really made me cry. It's like a DAGGER through the chest. With a note the movie may have ended but it's up to us to relive his memories and his legacy. 💔😭

Yeah, it was definitely a bittersweet ending. Seeing footage of the real Jonathan Larson after the movie would have been emotional anyway, but Jazmine’s voice added so much emotion to the moment. I love that the movie and Jazmine are introducing Jonathan’s story and music to more people.
Jonathan’s lyrics and Jazmine’s vocals are a combination I didn’t know I needed ❤️
