Jayden Daniels: The Most CONFUSING QB In The 2024 NFL Draft

Спорт

Drake Maye was considered the second best quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft all season behind Caleb Williams, but Jayden Daniels is now right there in the conversation.

My biggest worry about Daniels is whether the team that drafts him have the patience to develop him. Despite the LSU connections, guys like Joe Burrow are a very rare breed of QB who can start right away, and Daniels is not cut from that cloth. Daniels has the talent, but my fear is that he would be rushed into a starter role, with no adequate weapons or protection to support him. The QB position has one of the highest learning curves, and no matter what aptitude you want (rusher or passer), the QB needs the support cast to thrive. People like to salivate at the potential of the next Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes, but often forget that both men needed time and the right coaching staff to unlock their full potential. Patience is a quality that is severely lacking these days, and this can severely hamper a QB prospect's development no matter how talented the prospect may be. Expecting a rookie QB to imitate Atlas and carry the entire team on his shoulders, you can work out why this is such a bad idea.

I 100% agree with this, most of the best QB’s we’ve seen did not start their Rookie year. On the contrary those QB’s came into the league at a younger age. Nonetheless I think that teams should not be drafting QB’s to build around but rather the opposite, build up your team then go for a QB. I think the Patriots drafting a QB, especially after throwing away Mac Jone’s talent would be a crucial mistake. I’d also go as far as to say the teams that did draft a QB, and that QB elevated their team just in their rookie year, always burnt out. For example; Cam Newton, RG III, Andrew Luck, etc. All of these guys got dropped by the injury bug because they were almost always required to do everything for their team.

As an lsu fan who watched every game he played..i acknowledge QB scouting is a crap shoot. But i think i have an idea as to what kinda system he would work in. Dont let him hang on to the ball unless you got elite pass pro and at least one game breaker receiver. If you dont have that, were working quick release to the sideline and flood concept plays where he can book it to the sideline

The pressure to make the right decision is massive for Washington as all of these top QB's have so many different strengths. It's a difficult choice as Jayden, Drake and JJ are all have different traits that could serve them well in the NFL. I don't envy Washington's front office, this is the trickiest QB draft class I've seen in a long, long time.

Maaaaaan! This is one of the BEST comments I’ve seen. Yes! As a Commanders fan, it IS tricky. We have the #2 pick, but it may as well be the #1 because after Caleb Williams goes to the Bears, the draft starts with us. The other QBs are good, but they all have their flaws. I keep saying, we’ve GOT to get this QB pick right. Period. Adam Peters has done a great job with the pickups we’ve had in FA. Got some good players and not break the bank. However, if we don’t get the QB right……..

What ever they may claim, the Heisman Trophy is a team award. Draft based on that at your own peril. 2016 - Patrick Mahomes was named the winner of the prestigious 2016 Sammy Baugh Award (awarded annually to the nation's top collegiate quarterback). Mahomes led the NCAA in passing yards, total offense, points responsible for and total touchdowns. Led the FBS in passing plays of 10+ yards, 20+ yards, 30+ yards and 50+ yards. He tied the single-game FBS passing record with 734 yards, while also rushing for a career-high 85 yards. Mahomes was also named an Academic All-American. Ty Detmer holds the record for Total Offense All-Time for a Heisman Trophy winner at 5,022. Mahomes has 5,312. Just based on stats, Patrick Mahomes is the best in the country. So why are Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson and DeShaun Watson on the final ballot while Patrick is left at home? Wins. If you want to be a Heisman trophy winner, you have to be a winner - as in, your team's record.

Williams seems safe out of USC, Drake screams bust to me, Penix seems wildcard-ish, mccrappy will fail quicker than the pinto. Why would you be livid if the Pats don't draft a QB? I would argue that the best choice at 3 for the Pats is Marv and its not even close. If you draft a qb at 3, that dude is going to look like total shit regardless of how skilled they are. I'm not confident that the "new" regime is any better than BB's shitty drafting. Take the sure thing at marv, work on the o-line, and give whomever the QB of the future is next year or in 2 years something to work with. Assuming Penix makes it to round 2, then Penix and Marv are better than JD (who has one of the weaker arms in the draft and i think will struggle in Boston in Dec/Jan) and... Ladd McConky? If you put JD on the Patriots in 2 years everyone will be calling him a draft bust. Put him on a team that can support him and he'll probably have a hell of a career. Ill be pissed if the Pats DO ruin another QB.

His comp should be a cross between Joe Burrow and the NFL MVP Lamar Jackson… Drake Maye and JJ McCarthy are both question marks. Alright so far through watching film of the three quarterbacks this is what I think: Williams: will be a great player, good pocket presence, great arm, and makes some magical throws needs to work on short and medium accuracy. It’s pretty good nonetheless. Drake Maye: not good. Reminds me of Zach Wilson, tries to play hero ball too much and do everything himself. Overthrows wide open receivers sometimes. His deep ball is good though, elite arm. Jayden daniels: project. project. project. Dude misses some of the easiest throws, and takes way to many unnecessary hits. Sometimes he shows great flashes, but most of his yards sometimes are just YAC. Not an amazing passer.

Watched some maye film after the draft, and I think you are pretty spot on. Small Breakdown: His footwork isn't just bad, it doesn't really exist. He takes lazy steps (something Fields has been constantly criticized for), & just uses his arm to throw the ball (instead of using his body motion). His arm strength isn't enough to compensate like Josh Allen. He also makes a ton of "why would you do that" throws. There have been multiple times I watched the film, where it would show Maye making three great throws and then back it up with him missing five easy throws such as bubble screens quick hitters. Leaving me very stunned and dumb founded. He’s talented, don’t get me wrong but there is HIGH HIGH BUST potential!

Except we don’t. Sure, that’s a likely situation for him but we don’t know until Roger Goodell announces the name of Washington’s pick at the Draft. Until then, we know fuck all about who’s gonna be the pick. And it may be different, after all, Dan Quinn seems to be taking a liking to Drake Maye.

CONFIRMED: Multiple sources report Charges in conversations to trade Justin Herbert to the Chicago Bears for both the overall number one pick and the ninth pick in this year's draft. This gives the Chargers three top 10 picks in this year's NFL Draft. Chicago Bears instantly become NFC North favorites and contend for the NFC Championship in one to two years.

In your dreams, bitch. Jim Harbaugh wouldn’t have taken the Chargers job if it wasn’t for Herbert. Even if he wanted to, though, that no-trade clause in Herbert’s contract would incur a $100M dollar dead cap hit which would absolutely set back the franchise for years. Just look at what’s happened to the Broncos.
