The 2024 NFL QB Class is Complicated (Controversial Power Rankings)

Спорт

At this time a year ago, Caleb Williams was the solidified #1 pick, but due to his off the field drama and the rise of other prospects, the 2024 NFL QB class is looking really weird right now. A better word may be confusing, and today we are going to take a look at the top 8 QB prospects for 2024 and give a rundown of what they bring to the table and what they could be like, enjoy!

I think Caleb Williams checked out mentally in the last half of the season. He won the Heisman last year, it was early on we knew he was not going to repeat and the team had no chance for a playoff berth plus by the way was exiting the league at the end of the season. What an incredibly deep class of quarterbacks. This could turn out to be one of those classes that makes a huge impact for years to come. Cam ward made a good decision to wait till next year. And Tuas brother was denied another year so he is now in this class too.

  • @user-zr4km5ns8t

Or it could prove to be very overrated. Since 1990 50% of all first round quarterbacks turn out to be either outright busts, fail to live up to their predicted success or become backups in the NFL. Every year teams overrate QBs & reach for them. Think of the recent examples alone...is anyone now still thinking Carolina got a franchise guy #1 overall last year with Bryce Young? In 2018 Baker Mayfield went #1...now he's a journeyman guy. Sam Darnold went #2 overall...strictly backup material...Josh Rosen at #9? He's gone from the NFL. That year only 2 of the 4 first round drafted QBs turned out to be worth it and the best one lasted till the end of the first round. Trey Lance was drafted #3 and the 49ers traded multiple high draft picks to get him. Mr. Irrelevant got the job instead and had them in the Super Bowl in 2 years. You can go back over the last 30-40 years or beyond and find this is a consistent phenomenon. I think that at least 3 of the expected 6 QBs who are being mentioned in this draft as first round talents will bust. If I had to guess, those three will be Drake Maye, Bo Nix and MIchael Penix Jr. Don't be surprised if Spencer Rattler turns out to be a guy who becomes this year's late round steal.

@@user-zr4km5ns8t dude i know there are going to be busts, and there are always busts. I know there have been some classes in the past that have great. Im not saying that theres going to 10 future stars. Im only saying that there is a larger than normal amount of talented, and very experienced qbs. Honestly i care very little for the pro game anymore. But i love the college game, i think the way college football has changed as far as the transfer portal, and NIL its going to allow more qbs to get playing time and develop. Instead of waiting behind a guy for 2 years, when your good enough to start at a different school. This and the extra covid year has created a different level of pro ready guys. Will they pan out like everyone expects? It never does.

@@ericwalters3426The two biggest stat guys in this draft are Nix and Penix, and both of them were quite average until they transferred into offensive systems where they were surrounded by future NFL talent and protected by the top two offensive lines in the college game. Contrary to what you said about them being experienced, I look at that as them not being able to make an impression until they were 5 or 6 years into the college game. Ask yourself this; if either of them had played only 4 years, which is what almost all college QBs were doing before these new rules, would either of them even get drafted at all? That's highly questionable. Go back & look at what they did at Indiana and Auburn...nothing much. I put both of them in the category of potential busts along with Drake Maye. The history of the draft says three of the expected top 6 will fail.

  • @tyrusgavan3354

The one thing that I try to do when evaluating college QBs entering the draft is look at their situation and flip them with others in their class. For example, how would Jayden Daniels look with UNC? How would LSU look like with Drake Maye? Or JJ McCarthy on Washington and Michael Penix on Michigan?

  • @lenzzzzzzz

Jayden Daniel’s is the bust from this class. Just watch the Alabama and FSU film from this season. Jayden only goes with 1st two reads then he’s running Hell there are times he will just run after his first read is open. When he throws to the hitch, hook, or comeback he always throws the ball after the receiver has made the break and is facing him. If he didn’t have Nabors (who is a freak athlete) his numbers would be far worse. Let’s be honest he’s just a modern Vince Young decent but he’s not gonna win any games with his arm.

A lot of this is flatly wrong. But in any case, look at the progression of Daniels from his time at ASU to his time at LSU. Then, look at his progression from year 1 at LSU to year 2 at LSU. Further, look at his progression as a leader during his time at LSU. Dude literally asked his coach to reprogram the security system in the football ops building so that he could get in earlier in the morning to watch more film. The kid is dedicated to improvement. I'll take it.

Just look at his stats against Clemson and NC State in his career. My QB Draft Rankings: Joe Milton- C+ - A bunch of potential, but ultimately will probably not be great in the NFL Cameron Ward- B+ - He will make a decent starter if he gets taught correctly. He's basically a mini Justin Fields Michael Penix- A -Pretty accurate, but also very injury prone. He can read the defense well, scramble a little, and has a cannon arm. Should be good if he goes to a good franchise. JJ McCarthy- B+ - I think he is overrated and I will stand by this hill. Statwise he's not special, but he's dynamic, and doesn't make stupid choices. He should be good once given a few years to develop. Bo Nix- A - He's just insane, he does everything right. He's either gonna be a big bust or a really great QB. Drake Maye- B- -He's alright, humongous boom or bust. Compared to everyone but Joe Milton, he's never had great stats. However, he has major potential, but needs a lot of time to develop. Jadyn Daniels- A+ - In my opinion, he's the best QB in the draft class, he can scramble great, doesn't turn the ball over, can make any throw, and has a cannon. He's a little undersized, but I feel like he'll be a great QB. Caleb Williams- B+ -He's like the Dak Prescott of college football. Great against bad teams, but put him against top 25 teams, and he's not so great. He played bad against a mediocre Notre Dame, and doesn't have good mental strength. He has a chane to be good, but I feel like he'll be a bust. the extra people: Michael Pratt- C - Never really WOW'ed me, but he is one of the reasons Tulane became good. Jordan Travis- B- -A ton of potential, but he never had mind blowing numbers. Spencer Rattler- C+ -Again not really wowing, but has potential to be okay. the irrelevant people i added: Sam Hartman- D+ -He was great at Wake Forest, but at Notre Dame, he made stupid decisions and was horrible against top teams. Emory Jones- D- - You guys are probably thinking: "Who?" He's Cinci's quarterback, and had massive ball security issues, but he could scramble, I guess. Taulia Tagovailoa- C- -Overhated, I think he has a bunch of potential, and made Maryland decent. However, he blew a LOT of games. Phil Jurkovec- C+ - Underrated, he's big, athletic, and has a big arm. However, since Pitt sucked, he's probably going undrafted. He also wasn't the starter, but he has big potential. alright if you actually read this, props to ya

Maybe I’m bias as a Michigan fan, but JJ is THE guy, he was just a very accurate qb and progressed and developed the best out of any of these QBs with his time at Michigan, from forcing passes and looking like a high school player, to a reliable, clock managing, leader. He is in my opinion the 3rd best qb in this draft if not 4th, and I would love for the the lions to pick him up. But he is an exceptional talent. I think with how coach able he is, can translate well

Caleb Williams is not a QB I would be betting my franchise on. A ton of red flags that they media sort of avoids. He could honestly be the next Johnny Football. Tons of potential and talent but personality and attitude could be his undoing. Don’t think it is a coincidence that USC players almost seemed glad he opted out of their bowl game.

You're wrong about Rattler. He was the entire offense at SC this year. Their run game was like 116th in the country. They had a rash of injuries to the offensive line that made it one of the worst in college football. Their top WR was injured and without Rattler their would be not talk of Legette being a top WR in this class. NFL teams have a higher value on Rattler than the media does due to his traits and arm talent. He is going to make a good pro. He has already dealt with the adversity you talked about Williams is going through and matured and come out the other side and never quit or talked about quitting.

Crazy QB class this year. Nix is probably the most NFL ready, having played a ton of games, and is the oldest of the bunch. I think his upside is limited. The guy I'm watching is Mccarthy. Super athletic, excellent processing skills, is very accurate in tight windows and has run a complex pro style offense where he's had to make a ton of audibles. I know smart NFL guys are comping him to a young more athletic Drew Brees. Perhaps Denver is where he lands as Peyton is intrigued by him. He's also only 20. Penix is a great QB when he can sit in the pocket all day and wait for his 3 NFL receivers to get open. Disturb the pocket and he's below average. Caleb should be good, Drake needs some time, but has the talent, and Jayden I have no idea how his game will translate to the NFL.

Caleb is a better version of Baker, Penix has no knees & a noodle arm. Jayden Daniels had 2 elite WRs, he's RG3, Bo Nix is a combination of Drew Brees & Derek Carr should have a solid career. Im going to say this since people dont have their own opinions anymore. Without the media, twitter, Instagram etc. You went out an scouted these guys you'd say wow Caleb williams made fantastic throws and magic BUT he didnt need to. He got nervous under ACC pressure constantly and struggle to throw into thight windows. Which in the nfl those levels of players you have to create those windows . Caleb Williams wouldnt even be in the top 5 QB's conversation especially with that attitude vs Spencer Rattler No o-line always made the throws at every level, mobile but doesnt just tuck and run for no reason. high character and locker room guy after being a little shit. Same knocks on him as C.J Stroud.. Average Arm not a great athlete. Definitely top 5 pick and you can go ahead and do this with Maye. He's accurate but when he isnt boy he would throw many, many, many picks in the nfl a josh allen type turning the ball over constantly wont amount to anything in the league. Yes you can be flashy but like Brady said if you see your guy in double coverage and you can make that big play maybe it gets picked maybe it doesn't but why not check it down for 10 and keep taking yards. Brady career in a nutshell and Patrick Mahomes this last Superbowl. Now Daniels amazing athlete, average arm puts the ball on the money deep and mid range but when it comes to short range its not the best boardline atrocious. But he reads defense really well which is a shock. He moves safety's with his eyes and almost never stares down one or two receivers. The most starts in with different teams and offense in the draft so he has a good track record and experience which is crucial. People need to learn to do their own eye test.
