It’s pretty bold for Jay-Z to make a music video about his own mother’s love story. It must have been quite confronting and I respect him a lot for that

Lechiffresix six I agree 100% with you. A lot of people like to agree with today's homosexuality. Mind you I have nothing against it. But those same people are only agreeing on it because its trendy and its more acceptable nowadays. 20 years ago it would have been more ballsy. Especially in the hip hop community.

This album came out when I was 16, I wasn't mature enough to digest a lot of the lyrical content. Im 20 now and coming back to 4:44 with a slightly more elevated perspective- this is the first time I feel like I truly SEE what is being presented. I know Im still young but I wonder what it will feel like in just 10 more years, savoring moments like this. This story is timeless, this music is timeless. Thank you.

Living in the shadow, can you imagine what kind of life it is to live? In the shadows people see you as happy and free, because that's what you want them to see. Living two lives, happy but not free. You live in the shadows for fear of someone hurting your family or the person you love. The world is changing and it's time to be free. But you live with the fear of just being me. Living in the shadow feels like the safe place to be. No harm for them, no harm for me. But life is short and it's time to be free. Love who you love because life isn't guaranteed. *SMILE* -Gloria Carter

William Greene black trans women are far and away the most at risk group in the trans community for assault and murder, and that’s largely due to the fact that a lot of black People are transphobic as hell. I’m assuming you’re not LGBT because, no exaggeration, I’ve never heard a gay or trans person of color say that the black community is LGBT-friendly. It is absolutely a problem. It’s also a problem in white conservative communities. The common denominator is almost always religion. The more religious a demographic is, the more homophobic the group tends to be. Black communities that are particularly religious end up being particularly homophobic
@TheFreshTrumpet

Mir Redd lmao on god
If Jay dropping albums when he's 80 years old I'll be good with that
The beat, the production, absolutely insane. This is one of jay z’s best songs, 3rd verse is one of his best verses ever, I will die on this hill. I’d go as far as to say this is one of his best albums too.
This song means so much to me. I understand Ms gloria carter so much.Theres so many layers to this song and it's delivered so amazingly. Thank you
Long time Jay Z fan and this has got to be one of his best tracks and that is saying something with all the great music he has put out.

No father, let me start over, no, godly father wants his daughter to ever have to go through this. The devil is always busy trying to destroy homes. This is a message to all of the godly women out there remember surrender to Jesus and he will see you through . All he ask of you is to keep the faith and believe in him, and again, he will see you through.
I still havent heard an album,mixtape,or artist old or new thats fucking with this and it 2020 now. #RealSpit

Thank you Jay Z for humanizing lgbtq individuals. Thank you for also shedding light on homosexual life in the 70s since everyone seems to think the world is ending now when this has been going on for years. I was emotional watching this because I’ve experienced hate from homophobic people and it does hurt but I can say the love has definitely always outweighed the hate and for that I’m grateful. SMILE

Homosexuality was always around, it’s just accepted now as opposed to back then in the 70s. Also if you get hate because you’re gay, who cares anymore just brush them off and live life.

Marco Alexander what ? Blueprint 2? This is one of his worst album lol. The best are reasonable doubt, blueprint, Black Album ... After that Vol 1, Vol 2 and vol 3, american gangster, blueprint 3, watch the throne and 444. His bad album are blueprint 2, mchg, dynasty and, kingdome come.

This video brought me to tears and it made me feel so warm inside. There's something about seeing black people with pride in who they are (the afros). I wanna be successful in life but I'm far from a Beyoncé . Can't use my vocal talents lol I'm so proud of Jay and Bey ! They really made it ! It's so beautiful to see my people prosper .
