bigstU25 I am from the hood south side chicago wild 100's lived here 27 years since birth. and i know exactly what the video is about. and its not a matter of us having to do better. its a matter of police not stereotyping black people in general. whites commit the same crimes at the same rate if not higher. yet you will not see helicopters following innocent white around looking for someone armed with a knife. we shouldnt have to be careful or in a higher since of alertness simply because when they see black skin they feel threatened. should be able to go from point a to point be without being harassed, with your logic your blaming all black people for a few criminal elements. thats like saying all white people need to be on high alert and know more about the law and walk on egg shells because a few white kids shoot up schools and churches. yet you dont see them telling there people that...stop blaming black people for the perception of racist whites.

Sometimes I listen to this song and think it's the most beautiful Hip-Hop song ever. But never hold on to the thought for too long because most people wouldn't even list it in Jay's top 20 songs. But it might be. It's perfect. From the lyrics, the story, the history, the references, the culture, the bars, the production, the chorus and the singing, even the singing in the outro is perfect. That's the beauty of Jay z. He's been in his prime since he came out in 96. It's hard to tell when he was at his peak and when he was at a low. He says his worst album is volume 1 In my life time, but it's on that same album that you have tracks like "where I'm from", "a million and one questions", "streets is watching". His other bad album according to critics is "kingdom come", but that album has great tracks like "lost ones", "show me what you got", "minority report" and others. The man has atleast five classic albums, atleast because personally I think it's more than that.

2:46 is one of the best shots I have seen. It shows the compassion that the guy has for the kid, exhibiting the classic "neighborhood kid" relationship. The man even shrugs, as to say "Come on dude, you think I'm going to make you give me back this little amount of change?". He's just giving the kid a little pocket money, but for the kid that little amount of money is like winning the lottery.

You shouldn’t just assume somethings deep from the way it looks, otherwise everyone would believe Xxx’s lyrics and music is actually deeper than it is. But yes you’re right that it’s mainly the flowy piano instrumental with the typically Jayz excellent film making, as the lyrics of the song are a nostalgic rose tinted look back for Jay on his younger life in Marcy projects and growing up around street dealers, and then later becoming one. But the video itself with the overwatching eye of the police floodlight, kind of shows an alternative meaning to the song on top of how history can’t be repaired only the future can, and how Jayz was never born one, but bc of where he was born he’s almost destined to become an American Gangster, as Denzel is also reffed in the lyrics. Also the floodlight is taken to be seen as the lens that the police and mainstream media might see dealers or black people generally as subjective and very concentrated on one aspect, being close minded. Yes the quality

If you like this track you should search for Born Again by Co$$, it's one of my favorite underground gems.
The fact that Hov went back to his old-school fast flow (something he has never done since The Black Album) to relive his Marcy days is fucking poetic.

This song is so wonderful and kind of nostalgic... I remember being a kid walking through our Black neighborhood with friends and we would always see helicopter lights, police officers would drive-thru and Flash her big ass Searchlight in our faces and we thought that shit was like normal everywhere... Moving into different suburbs and different parts of America we started realizing they only do that to black people... It's awkward as fuk when we asked the white kids where the police and where the helicopter at when something bad happened in the neighborhood... And then white kids tell you "the police only show up when we call them" and you realize the police are in black neighborhoods all the time you never have to call them look out your window they are right there and it's never to protect you.
The video 👌. I could be reading to much but in my opinion the young boy represents young Jay Z who got out to the world and came back home with more than food. He came back with the spotlight on him. He really represented BK to the fullest.
I love Jay.. He always bring that "Old Brooklyn feeling" Brooklyn Girl For Life 🗽 #Bedstuy #ENY

This literally has two meanings, depends on how you want to look at it, the light represents represents the stereotype that the ethnic male/female are always up to something that's illegal, or the light can represent gods presence over the little boys life in a rough neighbourhood, somewhat like a 'messiah' cause he is trusted with the money and welcomed with open arms to the party. I only got that vibe from this line alone; *"Lord, we know who we are Yet we know not what we may be" So maybe I'm the one or maybe I'm crazy*

Sad to say but this is true us black folks we will always be watched, I was coming from my friends house one day (late night) was hanging out, Had my hoodie on and regular clothes, soon as I crossed the street, cops stopped no less than 5 mins me asked me where I was coming from, said my friends house asked where I live and said " yea we just had a lot of car jackings in the neighborhood if you see anything call 911". Mind you three white officers in the car as well. This is in NYC Brooklyn. We will always be watched and they will assume we're up to no good. Idk guess I got lucky they coulda been dickheads and Locked me up man💯. #stayblack #blackisbeautiful.

Was anyone else holding their breath til the end, hoping the little boy didn't get kill. I almost started crying because I was so afraid that was gonna happen.. No I was not actually crying, being a mom myself it's the fear of young black children being targets that tugs at my heart. Can't believe people are actually getting in their feelings over how other people react to the video 💁🏽♀️ isn't that the point of music & visuals. Not everyone is going to react to something the same way.
