Jay Som is the featured artist in one of our most unique AEA Sessions yet. Recorded entirely by the new supercardioid KU5A, Jay Som performs ‘Baybee’ from their 2017 album, ‘Everybody Works’. From the cozy comfort of a living room-turned-practice space, Jay Som demonstrate a playful, but precise chemistry.
The sharp directionality of the KU5A allows an entire band like Jay Som to record live and in close proximity without excessive bleed or room tone. It gives engineers and artists a unique combination of superb directionality and warm ribbon tonality in an active, road-ready form factor.

Wow, that was probably the first all-ribbon recording I've heard in a style like this. It makes the vibe so unique! I found myself craving a little air by the end, but I guess that's to be expected here. I really wanna try this out myself someday.

Great music, and (finally!) an all-ribbon recording, one of the precious few. (I've been advocating for these for about 10 years.) The AEA KU5A is sounding like it's the perfect combination of Shure SM57 and a simple figure of 8 ribbon motor. It has punch in the mids and mid-highs combined with the "shapeliness" and 'character' of a ribbon. The directionality is really handy too (even if it's a kind of compromise to the truly natural sound obtainable from open-architecture ribbon motors/housings). I've used the 'mother' of this mic, RCA BK-5B for live acoustic nylon string guitar with great results. Not bad in the studio either.

So glad she has the synth doing the lead line instead of that weird little talk box/cocked wah thing the other guitar player was doing. This was a little too fast for me but the funky elements were *sick*.

How is this badly-recorded rehearsal take meant to tell us anything about the quality of your microphones? What is it's purpose?
