Jay Leno’s “Baby Duesenberg” 1936 Cord 812 | 1914 Premier | Indiana-Built Luxury Classics

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We’re back at Jay Leno’s shop to check out a couple of early 20th Century American luxury cars, produced in the Hoosier State - not Detroit. The 812 Cord was revolutionary when it debuted in 1936 and roused some serious excitement in the automotive world. This “Baby Duesenberg” had numerous futuristic features for the time and looked like no other American cars. It never really caught on, though, so less than 200 were ever produced. With its powerful Lycoming Flathead V8 engine and European styling, this art deco beauty is rarer than a Southern California rainstorm. We’re dodging raindrops as we take the Cord 812 for cruise through the streets of Los Angeles!
Then Jay introduces us to another rare Indiana-built automobile. The 1914 Premier is one that many have never even heard of, including Dennis! This classic motor carriage was huge and robust like a truck. With a big chassis, large T-Head engine, and beefy transmission, Jay’s Premier had the room and power for the entire family to ride in style.
We always have a great time hanging out with Jay Leno, and this trip was another educational experience. If you thought Detroit produced some of America’s nicest cars, just wait until you see this episode of My Classic Car.

Gorgeous automobile! Love the design and that maroon burgundy color! This is the car that inspired David North to design the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado.

I had a model of this car when I was about 8 years old (that's 60 years ago) and to me it will always be one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

The Cord 810/812 is something so innovative that i can call it the Citroën Ds of the USA because going to the 50s american high end cars became boats on land and all needed was pure comfort by sacrificing all things else.

Jay: I drive it in traffic but you got to be a bit careful, it's got the anti-stop brakes!

Bless you Jay. Happy Holidays to you and yours. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm so generously. Your videos help me learn a great deal about our shared interest. Mostly appreciated in what you share is the chance to commune once more with the hobby i shared so long with my father. He was a mechanic from back in 59 and over his lifetime came to own over 100 cars, mostly American production cars from 1929-1949 in pristine original condition. He was one of the old school guys. His favorite of all was his baby Duesenberg which was early production all original. He drove it from Baltimore to Saratoga Springs in 2012 and said it was the best highway cruiser he ever drove. (Even though it had radial tires, lol)

The Styling is Art Deco but it's this mixture of train, steamship, and carriage, influencing the automobile. Roy Brizzio put a small block Chevy in one- still maintaining the front wheel drive. With a car like that I'm a purist.

@13:33: Put Dennis in a suit and tie with a golf hat, and you've taken us back in time. I'm disappointed in you guys for not accommodating me.

Although this car is stock the black walls make it look hotrodded.

Dennis, you are much more relaxed and low-key in your episodes with Jay. In others it feels like you are being rushed to get everything in - just seems that way to me.
