Just watched jaws 4K with my brother in law, it was his first time seeing it. He loved it and was blown away a movie from 1975 could be so well made. He said “you’re the only person I know who likes old movies” 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

That's funny but also sad at the same time. Like I don't think of Jaws as being an old film. Then again I just turned 50 and of course my kids think I'm old. 😂

1 year out of HS Jaws came out. My friends and I went to Jones Beach every weekend. The psychological effect this movie had was evident no one myself included would not go into the water ! Lol. My mom had the novel so after watching the movie I started to read the book I was so enthralled I read the book straight thru 9 hours.

Great content and hearing opinions from the heart with a love of a certain film... I'm like this with Green Mile, Predator, Jaws, Bladerunner, Se7en an absolute love for those films as pieces of genius. My fave scene in Jaws, weirdly... it's a very "normal" scene.. the one where Drefuss is talking to the sailors outside when they catch the first shark... and the timing of him and Schneider of the conversations just is SO NATURAL... infact the conversations in Jaws are the most natural ever tbh... I really do think they feel like these conversations happened! Jaws is absolute genius of which could NOT or would be made the same now!!! I even think the shark looks fantastic which I must be in a minority! It's deffo two films... as soon as we get the boat going out through the shark jawbone in the hut... that's the 2nd half of the film and I always get a brew at this point. One more thing, it's one of those films that you can watch and watch and if it comes on the TV you don't turn it off, other film that this is applicable for is Forrest Gump or Predator lol... Jaqws though I reckon I've watched 35+ times in my life and I'm about to turn 50!

Your love of Jaws is similar to mine. Although I’m a lot older than you ( I’m 54 ) I’m a Massachusetts native who spent many summers on the Cape for my family vacation. I saw Jaws for the first time in either 78 or 79 when it was re released in theaters I was 8 or 9 years old. It is without a doubt my favorite film of all time. Like you part of that is nostalgia but it’s also Cape cod related . Although perhaps at 8 or 9 I didn’t realize it but beaches in the northeast or New England were not really featured in films much whenever beaches appeared in film it was usually California palm trees or tropical beaches etc but to see the kind of beaches that I was familiar with was refreshing. I could go on and on but yeah there are many similarities between your experiences of the film and mine . It’s the best .

Jaws is such a great film that you even don't realize or forgive its plot questions. They're not holes, just things that make you go hmm. Like why do they go out into the open ocean to chase the shark. I think that was a practical filming reason and it was so that Spielberg wouldn't have to worry about keeping the coast in view.

Thank you very much for this video-podcast. Great format! It is unfair to select just one as 'the greatest'.... but it is your video and Jaws is undeniably one of the greatest cinematic achievements of all time. Another interesting piece of trivia is that during the troubled production things got so much out of control that Spielberg considered quitting. Nonetheless, Dick Zanuck realized that Spielberg would be the only one who could finish the movie successfully so he did not pass the job to any other director and kept him in charge

Bill Butler actually was 101 years old when he died, so he definitely wasn't young. Also, he never worked on The Godfather (that was photographed by Gordon Willis), but he did photograph The Conversation. Lastly, he never did win an Oscar; he was nominated with Cuckoo's Nest original cinematographer Haskell Wexler on that film, but they didn't win; John Alcott won the 1975 cinematography Oscar for Barry Lyndon.

It's funny to think that next year, 2025, is the 50th anniversary of 'Jaws', so it would be great if Universal Studios had the foresight to rerelease 'Jaws' in movie theatres next year in the summer and I wouldn't be surprised if it became a cash cow once again as a chance for moviegoers to experience the movie properly on the big screen or perhaps even on IMAX screens.

Interestingly the way Jaws was shot reminds me of the way Ridley Scott directed Alien....The way the directors play with your imagination to get the best movie ever is quite incredible....with regards Alien, a bit like Jaws how often do you actually see the full Alien in the entire movie?....When you see Jaws and Alien the similar psychological thriller/horror Spielberg/Scott were indeed iconic.

I love 'Jaws' and it's definitely one of my top horror movies of all time and even though I own it on VHS and Blu-ray as well as John Williams' iconic soundtrack on LP and CD, if Universal Studios released it every summer in theatres for a limited time run, I'd be there in a heartbeat every time. :)

The colors pop more on the blu-ray, it isn't so muted. I know people may disagree with me and that's fine. My TV naturally upscales the blu-ray like most tvs do. I want to like the 4k disc better but I don't. It's still great though.
