Professor Diamond, in this lecture speaks mainly of risk assessment in the US and Europe, but if I resided in the Mideast my worries regarding terrorism would be higher and a slip and fall accident would be lower. I think in western societies our fears are directly related to our media consumption. If you watch a lot of TV news and listen to news talk radio you will become more paranoid about major disasters. Ratings on TV news are not driven by falling in the shower.

The entire paradigm of humanists like him resides in the accuracy of their interpretation of the geological scale

Ha! Look into domestic dog attacks vs wild animals...and look at how owners justify behaviours of their pets and vilify the victims. Remember that the 4.5 million reported attacks a year are a fraction, as most are not reported. And most cause a huge internal change in the person attacked...if you have not been through it, you have no idea.
