Japanese Cotton Sponge Cake | Apron
square mold 18cm x 18cm x 8cm
vegetable oil 50ml / 4Tbsp
cake flour 80g / 2/3cup
milk 80ml / 1/4cup
egg yolk 5
egg 1
egg whites 5
sugar 80g / 1/3cup
salt 1/4tsp
Bake at 170c in a water bath for 50-60min

0:16 warm 50 mL oil not to a boil ( 60 C ) remove from heat transfer to a bowl and add cake flour into the warm oil & stir 0:57 add milk & stir 1:23 add yolk into flour mixture and stir. 2:02 beat egg white & 3:09 soft peak. 3:16 fold meringues onto batter. 5:15 bake at 170 C for 60-70 minutes. Nice recipe

I’m definitely going to try out Apron’s recipe. Have to admit she’s the only person from all the You-tube presenters who have bothered to respond to all my questions about their video presentation. I’m now a fan 👍👍👍thank you!
Mum and I have literally been making this cake nonstop for the past few weeks! We've tried so many other recipes but this one by far the fluffiest and complex in taste - almost tastes like cheesecake. The only thing is that ours kept deflating - for those who come across this issue I recommend baking at 150C (no fan) for 80-90mins :)

Thank you for sharing this recipe. I just made this cake, oh my goodness, it taste so yummy! The texture is so dense and spongy too!
Looks so good, I will give an update when I finish cooking one. Update: Made this cake and it's absolutely delicious, a little eggy perhaps. I added Vanilla bean paste but you can swap sugar for Stevia and flour for almond or coconut flour and suit your fancy diet. Thank you for the recipe.

What type of pan did you use

IT’S SO DELICIOUS!! didn’t use cake flour but regular all purpose flour and didn’t bother to warm the oil but it was still just as light and fluffy😩💕 wish I could eat some more but I don’t have a mixer I only do by hand 😅😂

Did your cake shrunk. Everything went well and it rose in the oven, I took it out and in like 5min it started to shrink down

Hey, so I'm making it but 50ml of oil is less than 1/4 cup. In the video it looks like a lot more. Is it really 50ml? edit: i ended up putting about 20ml more oil to achieve a consistency similar to the one in the video. It came out ok. The end batter is very light and soft prior to baking.
I bet it tastes as good as it looks!
