This is a demonstration of Masaki-ryu Fukuhara-ha Kusarigama-jutsu. The individual on the right, wielding the Kusarigama, is Katsuse Yoshimitsu Kagehiro serving as the 12th generation Soke of this Tradition. He also serves as the 15th generation Soke, or headmaster of the Suio-ryu Iai Kenpo.

Exactly, a demonstration! Think about much self-restraint it takes for these dudes to not use their skills at maximum capacity when that's what they train for every day, the amount of respect and trust that the demonstrators have for each other to tone down the notches all so we can have a display of the awesomeness of close-quarters combat. A demonstration can be more fulfilling to the eye than an actual fight. To actually see two masters simulate their skill and technique instead of an actual rivalry of skill and technique used to be very rare.

As they are mostly used in a similar way, top of the weapon means more control of the chain, but it can get in the way of swinging the weapon after you have them bound and can slow down blocking, while bottom you risk tangling the chain a bit but have more freedom to use the weapon part to attack or block.

This is just my guess but by having it on the opposing end gives the user more leverage and control over the chain. Having it attached at the bottom would also cause the blade of the sickle to swing around towards the user should the chain be pulled by the enemy, whereas having it at the opposing end will only cause the blade to be pulled away from the user should the chain be grabbed by the enemy.

Nice moves. Tho, very shame that today it is hard for untrained people to see what it does mean but people who does understand martial arts and weapon arts can probably at least see some things in there. Kusarigama needed at lot of practice and is probably one of the best killing weapon in it's time if you want to kill/injure opponents. It was not to do a fatal blow in one hit tho, but very strong anyway. If surprised hit by the weight and caught, you're gone. Cause if the guy was a master, he would have time to hit you two-three times before you draw any sword and after the hits, i wonder if you can even move or defend anymore. Sickle is pretty damn sick to destroy an internal organ so... You'll that in few hits, bleeding gets you to die. Only very fast on their feet opponents can probably dodge it (cuz you can't really parry it). Being in very heavy armor entangles you... and it's over for u XD. I'm surprised it doesn't get more hype this days. Probably because training with it is very hard and harder than nowadays kenjutsu.

Dante Taiji Or maybe beacuse it's totally useless against someone with a Gun if You're from a far range.Even from close range someone with a Gun would probably win.

Why is the swordsman waiting for the enemy to attack? why not attack when the chain flies back and it is not possible to throw it? Почему мечник ждет атаки противника? почему не атаковать когда цепь летит назад и ее не возможно кинуть?

Catching that kind of japanese sword is more realistic then I thought, Katanas are made more for Cutting then stabbing so a catchable angle is used more often. Might be interresting to see a fight against a european greatsword like a Bidenhänder ore something smaller like a roman shortsword.

using this as my main weapon for my shadow monk tortle. Basically just combining sickle and whip stats into one weapon, but changing the slashing damage from the whip to bludgeoning due to the weighted chain aspect.

Great demo of Technics. But the zoom at the wrong times by the camera operator kinda ruins the scale of what's going on. And hard to really see. The chain swinging is on a large scale and it's hard to grasp at times. The full technical aspects before it hits the opponent
