If you don't move and groove to Jamiroquai, you are truly dead inside. This was my shit (and still is) in the late 90s! And I'm proud to say I turned all my friends onto them as well.

Zender was born in Sheffield, England. He comes from a family with a musical background, Zender's father was a musician, his uncle was a flamenco guitarist, and his older sister participated in punk bands.

They were huge in the UK and got some attention in the US from their Virtual insanity video on MTV, but never hit huge. I love them, they've got a lot of great songs. Seven Days in Sunny June, Canned Heat, Little L, Cosmic Girl...just to name a few.

Cosmic Girl, Canned Heat, and Little L also got some airplay in the US. I remember those songs playing in top 40 stations. They werent as big as they were in the UK, but they got some decent reception in the US

Blow my mind is the best jam they got. High times and seven days in sunny June round out my top three.

Andrew Levy played bass on When You Gonna Learn, on their first album. Check out Andrew’s band called the Brand New Heavies. They’re in the same vein as Jamiroquai - acid jazz. This track is called Dream Come True (live performance) m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/nal33KmzqJjbh5s.html

STUART ZENDER! He’s the definitive bassist to Jamiroquai. Spent his formative years in Philly and went back to the UK to make a killin with this band. And wait…you from the Bay all this time? I’m a musician from the South Bay. Let’s jam big dawg!

They were riding high at this time. This was about 9 months after the release of their 3rd album ‘Travelling without moving’ Check out ‘Mr Moon’ from the same concert. In the pocket bass and super jazzy chords from Toby Smith on the piano Alternatively, try ‘Funktion’ from Brazil 1997. A lesser known track as it was a ‘hidden’ track on TWM but the best track on that album imo ✌🏼

Stuart Zender was there bassist from 1992-1998. He was only a teenager when the band formed. As you say, a great vibe. They have an awesome discography which is worth delving into. If you enjoy slap bass check out ‘Mr Moon’ from the same concert kzread.info/dash/bejne/qXZ-27eopZeTqKw.html 🔥

@@MrBillyboyroge that was great! Thanks for the links,! Don’t know your age, but this reminds me of earlier artists…..the singer reminds me of Michael Franks and Kenny. Rankin…..and style is like Michael Franks as well…..(Listen to song Popsicle Toes). Also Eryka Badu kzread.info/dash/bejne/p46O09Fsqpy_idY.html

@@MrBillyboyroge OUTSTANDING! Only other time I’ve seen didgeridoo used in western music was during Page and Plant tour of Walking into Clarksdale …they had a didgeridoo player with them in Australia. I love the entire concept of musical cross-fertilization…African instruments and rhythms with Celtic scales (Afro-Celt Sound System) the black Caribbean influence in the Bristol Sound and newer British music (Noon Garden). And Page and Plant using an Egyptian orchestra and British-Indian singer (and a hurdy-gurdy) in their No Quarter Tour….and Plant’s use of West African and North African artists and instruments in his various bands. Just as Steely Dan was a complete alternative to hard rock and metal in the 70’s, so this band seems to fill that spot in the 90’s…..with grunge being in the hard rock spot. What do you think?

I’m younger than you, and first discovered this band less than a year ago. I like their sound, even though I’m not a music nerd. This song comes from their first album of the same name, and some of the other songs that I like on that album are “Too Young to Die” and “When You Gonna Learn?”

I met Jamiroquai when I was 8 years old and songs like Space Cowboy, Deeper Underground and Cosmic Girl played on segmented radio stations here in Brazil. Today at 32, I'm still listening to the band and I'm sorry that Jay Kay is recording new albums at such long intervals and without the same recognition as before outside his niche range.

not sure if this was meant to be my request or someone else requested this song live, i requested the club citta 1993 version, audio is much better and feels tighter because it's in a small venue but we'll see :) i'm just so glad you're getting into them now!

Stuart Zender. Listening it, he picks a lot of runs and add-ons from the melody of the song to the top of the foundation.
