Watching Kyle Walker take a throw in near on in the Spain corner and launch it all the way back to midfield, and then for it to end up back at Pickford, for him to launch it into midfield to a Spain player says it all! Foden was shocking all tournament, had about 20 good minutes against Holland but apart from that he was awful, literally dead weight, Declan Rice was another one who was average at best, Kane was poor. Paul is 100 percent right. Please just look at this game, England scored and had momentum and he didn't make a sub when they lost it. Kyle walker has a throw on, the ball ends up back to Pickford and he hoofed it up there. THAT IS POOR GAME MANAGEMENT. England barely got a kick of the ball after that. England slept walked to that second goal because Southgate couldn't recognize the game was back in Spain's control. Guys we need a manager who will at least make us play with confidence at least, but we also need better tactics. Watch the Spain vs Germany game, that was the actual final. That game was played at a high level and Germany were unlucky not to go through. Both teams played with bravery and on the front foot. We didn't deserve to win the tournament, it hurts, it really does but its the truth.

They got back on the ball and slowed it down. His long ball 99% of the time was ridiculous, just gave spain the ball back and they attacked again. He made the odd good save, but the only reason they had the shot was because pickford gave the ball to them.

England played the final: - with 10 men (Kane was a passenger) - without a proper left winger/ left sided forward. So effectively played with 9.5 men - never resolved the Foden-Bellingham conundrum. So really down to 9 men. - with the equivalent of almost 2 more games than Spain with 2 lots of extra time and penalty shootout to Spain one’s one extra time plus in their 3rd group game resting all their players - had one day’s less rest than Spain after their semi final. Little wonder then that the Spanish looked far more energised. CONCLUSION: Southgate simply did not use his squad well enough. Should have used Toney, Watkins, Cole Palmer, Gordon, Bowen etc far more.

Southgate brings on subs, scores goal through individual brilliance, but control of the game goes out of the window - we sit back and they score. That's the callers point. The substitutions are made in a desperate attempt to score a goal, not arrest control. You look at the Euros final against Italy, the World Cup semi against Croatia, those managers made changes and took control of the game. Southgate will not do that, because he can't. He does not have the technical ability to address the short comings of the side as they are playing and make changes to give the lads the best chance of winning - it is not an insult to call him technically inept, it is simply an accurate description of his ability. And that's why he needs to go. Every single player in an England shirt has a better club manager than that of their national manager. You can't say that about most teams that win these competitions. Period.

We've two years to mould this team for the world cup. If Southgate doesn't resign, he'll turn the team into mold.

He was praising him earlier in the week saying he got him wrong. England were the most undeserving finalists I’ve ever seen. Poor the entire tournament with maybe the easiest path to a final ever. Good players there but terrible performances.

I can’t believe no1 is talking about Southgate trying to bring on Gallagher and trippier when we were on the front foot and needing a goal

Tbh. Rice was out on his feet and so were both fullbacks. It wasn't the craziest suggestion for subs.

@Benjalina123 Bringing on Wharton for Rice would have been more intelligent than bringing on Gallagher. Gallagher is a hard worker but he's not going to help you keep the ball. Wharton on the other hand is technically a good footballer who keeps the ball well, and yet barely got any game time.

Never thought for a second we’d win it. Ok when Cole scored I had hopes, but Gareth has proved beyond all doubt he cannot overcome his limitations. There it is….

BBC ccomentators after Palmer scores: once again Southgates sub has changed the game, he has done this throughout and its crazy to think people criticise him. BBC comentator after the final whislte: well southgate really has to take some blame, his lack of using subs has cost England. Lol
