He has a bunch of talents who on paper are better than any country in the world, and he managed to make them look and play badly, with no tactics to play on the strength of those talents.....YET he managed to churn out results in 2 Euro and 1 World Cup (Beside 1966 WC, no other England manager can get the results which Southgate managed to achieve for the past 50 years). So FA is so pleased and decided to ask Southgate to lead England in 2026 WC. Walker has been decent imo , you are forgetting his saving tackle against the Dutch , him and Saka did OK at times down the right, one of our only times we attacked was with walker and saka. Ghuehi, Stones , Pickford , walker and Rice and were decent at the back imo ,Palmer clearly was the answer to our problems , he got 20 minutes ? But was our best player. Gardiner showed he could have been decent but ended up a forgottten man, Watkins should have played more from the start. I think its harsh to have a go at Kane ,,he was clearly below par and looked injured all tournament, he gave 100% , but he shouldn't have been playing , Southgate bottled starting Watkins. Bellingham was even worse ,,the biggest disappointment all tournament, but Southgate let him down by watching him struggle down the left, he needed a rest, but again Southgate bottled leaving him out for a couple of games. Foden was criminally let down,, he clearly didn't understand what Southgate wanted from him , and neither did Southgate, wasted talent. I give our players all the credit for getting to a final despite having a manager seeing them suffering game after game.

England's major problem for a very long time (which is why they have won nothing) is that the managers keep selecting high profile players ahead of more talented low profile players. England always have players lauded by the Press, analysts etc that easily walk into the first 11 and deliver nothing. Yet, when they lose, they refuse to learn and correct the same mistakes in the following tournaments.

Spain are now record 4 times winners of the Euros surpassing Germany's 3.... wow 😲

I heard in this show yesterday that Spain do not have a good squad depth well if you don’t watch football outside of England, you are always gonna say Zubimendi, Merino, Oyarzabal are not good enough but these are talented and technically very good players. I laugh about Rodri and Rice comparisons, Zubimendi far superior technical midfielder than Rice.

In a genuine head to head comparison between Spanish players and English players I believe that Spain will dominate in terms of technical superiority, most of English players are good players in a system that’s the reason why they perform well in club football because majority of the best players and managers around the world are in England because of the financial, commercial and marketing aspects of the game.

Craig Burley is correct. Southgate should have changed things around for the final. Kane is definitely not good enough today to play up front in that system. Bellingham wasted in that position. Kane picked despite having had a terrible tournament. Palmer watching most of the tournament from the bench. Gordon handed 4 minutes all tournament when pace in behind was glaringly absent. Trent asked to play as if he’s Pirlo. The full list of Southgate’s bizarre decisions is available on request but I think every England fan already knows them. Feeling for all England fans tonight. And the players. They need a manager with a better vision of how to get them into a system that suits their particular talents. I won’t be holding my breath.

Can’t rely on coming back when down every match in a tournament. Sooner or later you need to be proactive not reactive to win tournaments. In a way I’m happy Spain won they were the team playing the better football being brave

For me, Palmer & Gordon were criminally underused throughout the tournament. Always felt Palmer should have been a first choice player - & Gordon was only used for 5mins against Slovenia, during which he produced the move of the match, but was NEVER USED AGAIN! Would love to hear an explanation from Southgate about this.

The thing is you England players are not on par with Spanish players on holding the ball under pressure. England players lose ball on pressing while spain can retain possession under pressure. Spain players are so technical on their feet. A magical pass doesn’t need flashing skills. Just timing and knowing where to place yourself without taking much time and space

As an Englishman this is bang on. It will take another generation & maybe another after that to have an England side that is technically gifted. We are further along from the days of Beckham, Lampard & Scholes & soon the PL will kick off in Aug with 100 miles an hour football not helping the England side. Technically we do not have the ability to keep the ball or have good enough movement off the ball. I've now seen two finals & 1 semi (Croatia) with exactly the same result, low possession & not enough bravery. It may never happen & that's sad but we will give it a go again. Too much in this tournament a player has had a ball at their feet & the rest of their Eng team mates expect them to take on a man & dribble through the opposition without realising they are not brave enough & need someone to come short & provide an option for a pass. In tonight's final only Saka, Bellingham, Stones, Rice & Palmer tried to move progressively with the ball significantly that I can remember & Pickford kicked it long far, far to often.

Have you seen these players play for Man City arsenal real etc, within the right structure they can do that, but Southgate provides no structure or strategy

@@carlosjones8712 International football is just a different beast. Under pressure no England team has proven they can keep possession of the ball & not give it away immediately when they get it. It's a mentality as well as an ability. The Spanish press was too much for the England team & the movement off the ball by England was too static for them to move up the pitch quickly enough

"Spain was boring to watch." That Spain they are talking about was brilliant, and won 2 Euros and one world cup, which is way more than England has ever won. If there is a team that's always been boring to watch is England.

Not necessarily blame, but reflect for the future…player looking knackered = give him a rest. Tactics not working =change the system (unless players aren’t doing what you are asking them to do-the change player).

Two things that no one can ever fathom: 1. Selecting Luke Shaw who has not been playing for months, as if there are no other left footed LB in England. 2. Not sending in TAA, who is a world-class full back to replaceWalker who has not been playing well throughout the tournament.

The difference is the tactics and coaching and that’s down to Southgate. I am desperate for Southgate to go and get someone in as a manager who is known for attacking football.

We have no right to be disappointed. It’s amazing we even got this far up against such such superior quality

Spain was always going to win this one. It is a far better team than England. It has proven that at every stage of this tournament.

Bellingham proves that very rarely can players do well out of position. He is no superstar.

I would have said Spain won, not England loses, but not only the football is worse in England, the journalism and capacity to analyze truthfully is too. The Liga is better than EPL btw, because the core quality is superior.

There’s no point blaming Southgate, the fact is that Spain have better players and far technically superior to English players

when england scored they started to get possesion again but pickford gave the ball back to spain kicking it down to spain again england had to wait again until they got the ball ,why did he not pass the ball to england ,i did not understand this southgate should have given instructions for this way back

You can’t have a easy run to the final and win. That just doesn’t happen. Tournament helps build the team, England were struggling against weak teams and then they met a good team.

Is that a shock??? NO. As expected England will lose the game. Southgate has got no plan or well planned strategy to win games. They were lucky to be in the final and I believe England will be knockout early if they were to play in the other grouping consisting of Germany,Portugal,Spain and France

England lost because they are losers.... 😅😅
