    And to play that character, he needed to do Blackface 🤣 However, actors shouldn't be critized for roles that call upon them to do crazy things. Thats apart of acting, sometimes you have to do something that isn't normal or strays away from humanity. I mean, think of your favorite villian characters, they aren't villians in real life, but they can do some CRAZY stuff in these movies/shows.. ITS ALL ACTING!!

    Exactly. Panting your face to mimic a black person is different from blackface. Context and meaning is key. The issue is that 99.9% of the time it's just blackface. The role of Lincoln Osiris was an example of that 0.1 percent.

  • @tomatodamashi

    @tomatodamashi

    @@Zerocyde The issue is it isn't the make up that should be considered offensive, it should be the negative portrayal of that ethnic group that should be. If do a blackface routine without the makeup, it would still be offensive. If you did a serious role grounded in respect and love with the makeup, it shouldn't be. But most people can't think that nuanced.

  • @ladysnowblood9320

    23 күн бұрын

    Yes, yes it is bad. It is bad because those rolls should be actually played by black actors. Why do they have to dress up somebody usually a white actor or actress to play another ethnicity or race when you can just go get that ethnicity or race? Stop playing. There is no other race that Black people can be turned into and portray on the screen that would be considered believable by the audience. So please do some cinema research and history about blackface and where it derived from and how it’s still going on today. So again it’s very very bad.

Robert NEVER played a black man, he’s never said anything racist, he’s never come against black people! When he slapped brandon and the other guys and told them to get they shit together, and his monologue on oppression had me in literal tears. He was in his zone in that movie, and made it hilarious. The opposite of offensive. His role should be studied in acting schools worldwide. Cause the man is a beast at his job. I dont know him personally. But professionally that role earned mad respect from me, cause he didn't half ass it. He went all the way in it. And I know for damn sure a couple uncles he reminded me of. And apparently the black coalition agrees. Ive yet to hear a disparaging comment about it from any side.

    Yes and the fact that his character who stepped way over the line in Tropic Thunder realistically and appropriately got major called out from his furious black co star in the film they were making that he deserved helped too. The filmmakers said the intention of that confrontation was to openly address and gave voice to that anger and criticism so it left none to be given by anyone else .Then there was also that characters emotional breakdown later that added a depth to and sympathy for the character . The role was a comedic satire on overly serious method actors and not a racist statement which was made clear. This distinction made all the difference of why RDJ got raves and not blowback for that role .

    We do love RDJ... plus, he did an amazing job with that role... and was able to portray the black man in a way that wasn't disrespectful, racist, or stereotypical... you have to have OUTSTANDING talent to pull that off.

    He was a parody of actors taking it too far when taking roles. He was not playing a black man, he was playing a white actor playing a black man. Him getting backlash for that would be ironic.
