"It's called a cruel irony, like my dependence on you." 😂😂 Eartha Kitt's performance throughout this whole thing is just top tier gold.
You know a movie’s gonna be wild when it didn’t have a completed screenplay until after it premiered in theaters.

This movie and Blair Witch are the only two I can think of that were made scriptless. Even Iron Man had some semblance of a script.

RIP Eartha Kitt voice of Izma. Such an amazing voice.
I swear this film's humor and writing gets better as you get older. I enjoyed it as a kid and enjoy it even more as an adult.

This movie, Megamind, and Shrek are stories better suited for adults. Shrek is way more kid friendly tho. It might have something to do with the fact that the a lot of the VAs are SNL alumns
Kronk is truly the best part of this film. That and the writers' idgaf attitude when writing the script ("by all accounts, it doesn't make sense") 😂😂

In terms of Actors Who Were Born To Play A Role, I'd put Patrick Warburton's Kronk right up there with Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark. He's just so damn perfect. Even people who haven't seen the movie know and love the character.
18:55 It's supposed to be Inca. Kuzko's name is inspired in the city of Cuzco, llamas and alpacas are iconic South American camelids, mountainous terrain is inspired in the Andes mountain chain, clothing and textiles are inspired in the andean cultures. Same with the architecture, you can even see a ton of Inti (the Sun God) symbology. Also, those are Inca rope bridges between the mountains.

Also the character design fits the art style too. You see it especially in the face profile of Pacha.
Did you notice that the Cactus turned into a llama when she poured the poison on it? And when Kronk is doing his theme music and "hiding" the wall art is two guys pointing down at him. This movie is hilarious.
This is such quality comedy. I was 30 when this came out but I imagine this is a very different experience as an adult if you saw it as a kid.

-Mannnnnnn...this movie still might be the funniest Disney movie cause it's like Disney took a bit of Looney Tunes. and Muppets humor and applied it here. Read the BTS stories on how this went from a musical drama to a comedy - John Goodman is a treasure. He did this and Monsters Inc the year after - Really shout out to the voice acting in this movie cause the delivery of these lines are top notch (especially Patrick Warburton and the late Eartha Kitt).

Completely agree about the entire cast, but I do reserve a special one for the team of Kitt and Warburton. And remember, while Kronk is a great character, part of what makes him so great is that Warburton and Kitt play off each other so well. Kitt is a major reason that Warburton was able to build his Kronk so beautifully.
This movie will never get old, nearly 25 years and my family/friends still quote it
"what's this based on?" the development of this movie is CRAZY, it's honestly worthy of a film itself. If you haven't the Vulture article "an oral history of the emperor's new groove," i can't recommend it enough-- both to you as a filmmaker AND a dude who loves good stories. (Random, but if you're looking for anime to watch & haven't seen Revolutionary Girl Utena, it'll blow your mind.)
This movie is one of the GOATs. It just does not miss, no matter how much time passes
I think this is one of those rare movies that's funnier TODAY than when it came out. I remember it being amusing when it first released, but I swear, the jokes in the movie feel tailored for today's humor
"Flying skateboard"?? Thats gotta be TREASURE PLANET!!! Love that movie!!
Yes, that flying skateboard movie with pirates is called Treasure Planet, a total must watch you gotta see!
"Pull the lever Kronk!" "WRONG LEVVERRRR!" One of the all time best quotes in any movie hands down! Even people quoting it became a meme, not just the scene itself! We still need Zootopia SOOO BADLY! LETS GO JAMES!!!! 🔥🔥🔥💯😎🤣🤣

Zootopia has an airtight script.
The voice actor for Kronk is Patrick Warburton, who was the lead in my favorite superhero tv series... "the Tick" (2001) (totally worthy of reacting to the whole thing!)
Treasure planetttt was one of my absolute favorites growing up; I can’t wait
When Kronk went against the wall while doing his own theme music, I literally keeled over laughing. Probably the hardest I've ever laugh in the theatre lmao

Adopted my first cat this year and he came with the name Kronk! It was too perfect to change ❤❤❤
That underrated "flying surfboard" movie with pirates you mentioned would be Treasure Planet. It's usually grouped with the last traditionally animated films before 3D animation took over you mentioned, like Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Even The Emperor's New Groove fell awkwardly between Disney's most successful period and what is often considered the beginning of the end for 2D animation, it went sort of under the radar at the time and a lot of people missed it. But yeah, there's still some real gems in there and I'd love to hear your thoughts on them.
The underrated flying skateboard pirate movie you mentioned is Treasure Planet. One of Disney's best underrated classics next to the teenage sexual awakening that was Atlantis: The Lost Empire. It's a retelling of Robert Louis Stevenson's book Treasure Island but in space! PLEASE WATCH IT.
Kronk is one of the best characters Disney ever created hands down

James! You gotta watch The Venture Bros! Patrick Warburton "Kronk" plays the ultimate bad-ass Brock Sampson. The show lasted 20 years but only 7 seasons because every episode was written and directed by the same two guys.

I went to my buddies house in high school to play video games and hang out for the night - at some point later in the evening he put this on, and I was not enthusiastic.... Turned out to be one of the best. I was already a fan of David Spade, so I think that really locked it up. *Don't throw off the groove*
Im loving it when your eyes match up with the double o’s in Groove 🤣
The Emperor's New Groove is by far my favorite animated Disney film, as well as one of my favorite comedies, period, and Yzma is one of my all-time favorite villains. Absolutely hysterical.
I'm so happy you kept my favorite cut from my favorite Disney cartoon. When Kronk wakes up Izma. The face he makes when he sees her is priceless.
This is my absolute favorite Disney movie. I could watch this any day of the week and enjoy it just as much. It's so witty AND quotable.
Oh yeah, this Friday is all coming together
As I understand it, apparently this movie was a disaster in production, and they creators had to begin again and start all over from scratch and this was the movie they were able to salvage / retool and the results are awesome and even better than planned.
So I believe this movie was originally called “Kingdom of the Sun” and there’s a video about the history behind its production is bonkers. Also the villain Yzma is voiced by the icon and original Cat Woman Eartha Kitt. Also you’re thinking of “Treasure Planet” “Titan AE” that go along with “Atlantis”
Love EARTHA KITT❤
this reaction was squeakidy squeak squeakin, and i truly mean it
Kronk was my first intro to a "himbo". Equality, baby!
The trumblr threads of this FIRE film back in the day... the memes that were born... legendary unforgettable times
My mom got this for me when it came out, and I swear this is where 91.53% of my personality came from. And as much as she hates David Spade's voice, this is one of our favorite movies to watch together still.
Dude on a flying skateboard + Pirates == Treasure Planet (2002) --> One of my all time favorite animated movies. 😄 In Atlantis == Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) --> Vinny is the funniest, nutty, pyrotechnic in film history!! And El Dorado is obviously great for greatness's sake.
"Who would win, Kronk or Captain America?" i dont know man i think they would be friends XD
I'll admit, when the trailers for this movie were coming out, I had my reservations. Because when you compare the art styles for ENG vs the previous Disney movies, it felt like a huge leap. But the humor was ON POINT. The fact that my friends and I used so many of the lines afterwards just shows how good it was. But it was a bit of a turning point for Disney animation, where some of their animation movies started missing, and Pixar starting gaining in popularity.
Attempt #2 of James vs Howl’s Moving Castle!!
This movie is SO beloved here in Brazil. It's most likely everyone's favorite, if not, definitely top #5. :) hope you have fun.
Squeek squeeken squeek squeeker!! (Thank James!)
I have always loved this movie so much. Yzma is one of my favorite Disney villains. She makes me cackle, and is just perfect casting because without a voice as unique as Eartha Kitt's (RIP to a Queen), her lines wouldn't be half as funny. There's a great moment of illustrating Kuzco being hated by ending his eulogy with "Welp, he ain't gettin' any deader" and all the palace workers just tossing their candles lol. Also the Courage episode you're talking about is "The Hunchback of Nowhere"!
E.J.Smith has a great video on how this was a re-do of a scrapped film and had no script, Izma is so well designed because she was a much different character in the originally planned film that got reworked, and they literally didn’t have a script to turn in for archives since they did it all bit by bit lol
I went to a bud and breakfast in Colorado where the guy had guard llamas as his security system. they bleet whenever they hear or see predators. they can be aggressive and have been known to kill to protect their territory or flock of sheep.
"He knew he couldn't doubt it, couldn't understand it, brand it, since the first turtle flip he landed" - Pacha (probably)

I watch as many of your videos I can, and you deliver. Your enthusiasm never fails. Your insight from a film maker's perspective has shown me new insights, as well as reaffirmed my own. I'm probably twice as old, but I do love when people appreciate, not only classics, but know the references. Thank you. :)
Yes!! Love this film. Kronk is great!
The ones you're referring to at the end are (in order) Treasure Planet, Atlantis The Lost Empire and Road to El Dorado. And just like Emperor's New Groove, they were box-office underperformers ... Treasure Planet was notoriously thrown under the bus as Disney's excuse to cut their hand-drawn features out of commission. But they've grown the big fanbases they deserve since then. I also have a soft spot for The Spongebob Squarepants Movie, which Nickelodeon haphazardly herded out like the rest of its big-screen spinoffs of its shows but didn't count on Stephen Hillenburg & co. writing some of the most iconic comedy scenes of the early 2000s.
An all time classic.
The Emperor's New Groove, The Road to El Dorado, Treasure Planet, The Iron Giant, Atlantis The Lost Empire....There were so many great 2D animated movies in late 90s-early 00s.
this is one of my favorite movies of all time, actually in my top 10. its just a feel good movie and it honestly never gets old~~
Over on Tumblr, someone was running a poll bracket for hottest women from old movies, and out of 540 contestants, Yzma's voice actress Eartha Kitt reigned supreme.
There’s only one thing to be said… “squeakity squeak squeaks squeaker… (Izma) ‘squeaken.’” -Kronk
This is absolutely my flavour video lol I’ve been saving this one for a day off!
Eartha Kitt killed this role
I HIGHLY recommend watching the unreleased/banned feature length making of documentary called The Sweatbox, directed by Sting's wife. It was never officially released because the production was so chaotic it made Disney look they have no idea what they're doing. Its a fascinating watch seeing how radically everything changed during production. Just google "The Seatbox" and it should be the first link to it on archive
Patrick Warburton as Kronk steals the show, but Eartha Kitt's Izma keeps me coming back. Kitt was incredible in the '60s and incredible in 2000.
12:13 the animation style uses a lot of techniques and call backs to older Disney movies. Like the silhouetted tigers, chasing him through the jungle and the color palette used is reminiscent of The Jungle Book, Black Cauldron, etc.
This film is amazing. I remember seeing this when it came out in theaters and loving it. It’s great to see you watch this film James, hope you’re doing well. Have a great day and a great weekend and take care!
Fun fact- first Disney animated film to have a pregnant character
I loved this movie as a kid
It's such a joy to see you have fun with these movies!
The actress who voiced Yzma also played Catwoman in the 1960s Batman TV show…. Which makes her final transformation even funnier 😂

Your Kronk impression is SPOT ON!! Don’t stop with it EVER!! Haha 🤣
This is probably my favorite Disney movie, but a close second is the Brave Little Toaster. If you've never seen it, i highly recommend. It's from 1987 and so bizarre and hilarious.
If you haven't watched the sequel "Kronk's New Groove" you should, it's super cute too.
bro‘s teasing us with the treasure planet and atlantis reactions. Can’t wait for it.
one of my all time favorites. me and 2 of my sisters know most of the lines, and used to run through them all the time on family vacation, for years. I do enjoy the english original, but the norwegian dub was spectacular and the translation/switch of references was so good. If anoyone knows norwegian and has not seen that version yet, do it now! Boom baby
The making of this movie is just as, if not more, wild than the movie.
First of Yzma’s disrespect towards Kronks spinach puffs was diabolical. I would be scarfing those. Kronk is best boy. As well as John Goodman’s character. They are just soooo wholesome. This movie is on my Disney Mt Rushmore
This movie has a very special place in my heart ❤
This movie is great. Absolutely love it. And the ones you were talking about at the end was Treasure Planet and Atlantis the Lost Empire. Also very underrated films.
James, in your animation adventure, you should definitely check out the classics FERNGULLY: THE LAST RAINFOREST and THE BRAVE LITTLE TOASTER. Ferngully is Robin Williams' first voice acting role, and there was heavy drama between the filmmakers and Disney, who tried desperately to sabotage the film so only they could have Robin play The Genie in Aladdin. Needless to say, Robin told them to pound sand. As for Toaster...well, I'll just say don't underestimate a film about household appliances. Plus, the soundtrack absolutely slaps. Every song is a banger.
Lot of great characters haha he’ll even the chief was a vibe for the 60 seconds he was in it haha
The scene at the diner - “bless you for coming out in public” is a savage roast by the waitress. Pacha is all excited about his “honeymoon” and the waitress is like “your new wife is sooooo fugly, she looks like a llama wearing a wig”. The other patron gives Pacha a thumbs up when he sees “dat ass”.
This and Treasure Planet are " Coming soon to own on video and DVD" traliers I have in my head forever
Yay! I'm a llama again! Wait...
Classic One Piece line "oh you're right those dummies should have chosen to be born rich"
Easily my favorite Disney movie. This movie had me rolling the first time I watched it and I still laugh at it to this day.
The beat at “Movie Breakdown” is CRAZY!!
This movie is so freaking funny I still crack up at so many moments.
I miss classic Disney. This was such a good flick. Loved your reaction.
Respectfully request the life-action Flintstone movie
One of my top Disney films and underrated. It’s funny and a great lesson. Eartha Kitt is soooo good in this. Yzma is a villain but I’d want to hang out with her. 😂
Bless your hearts for coming out in public... Sarcastic, caustic, biting, get the f. over yourselves, humour is where it was at, and nobody does it better than Spade. This may be my favourite animated film of all time - although there is, ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ - because it just has so many surprisingly great, fresh, and hilarious lines. It’s also very difficult to beat this cast. Thanks for making videos eh.
