@@Liface I disagree, yes there were obnoxious people, but people tended to be less loud and as obnoxious as they are today. I remember women spoke more softly and men were more quieter in a general manner. maybe it's where I grew up but I do remember it being different. I was shocked when I went to London a few years ago and waiting for a train and noticed how quiet everyone was, and not many people were on their phones. They were more contemplative than people in the US are. It's sad that we've gotten to this place in our culture.

The interviewer is so polite and soft spoken. James' voice is so soothing and comforting and Carly is so stunningly gorgeous!

I am so glad he managed to escape his serious drug addictions. Not everyone is so lucky. Beautiful family they were and such talent.

He was still doing heroin when this was filmed. I know this from someone who knew his connection.

I was on the vineyard many summers and one of them in 1980- James had a party and invited the whole island. It was an outdoor party and he played as long as his brother and sister. What a great time it was. Back in the day, it was all so innocent then.

They are so beautiful and beautiful together. Too bad it didn't work out for them ... such a beautiful couple and brilliant collective talent.

These two played a huge part in shaping my little kid brain into loving great music. While I also loved all the great glam bands that came along in the early 70s like the Sweet and Slade, the stuff that stayed with me and I would track down years later were those legendary albums by Carly, James, Carol King, Rod Stewart and the Faces, America, Bowie, Bread, Steely Dan etc. I will 100% still be playing No Secrets, Mud Slide Slim and Sweet Baby James in 2023!!

These sounds from Taylor and Simon are among my first and brightest happy memories. It may seem trivial. But there is a point in everyone's life in which we desperately cling to our childhood memories. Its easier to re visit the bright ghosts of music than to think of taking a single step forward into the blinding darkness . For some it is all the happiness there is.

What a beautiful way to put it! Apt and eloquently stated. I awoke today feeling nostalgic for a childhood that in many ways was brutal. But... I survived and I am now in my 50's. I am the example of bad times making you a stronger person. A cliche, but also apt in it's way. This vid came up on my feed and brought back so many memories. Music has been the one single thing in my life that has never let me down. I wouldn't be here without it. James and Carly were such a gorgeous couple and their music so very beautiful. This brought back good memories and feelings. I am most grateful for this respite. Bless

Both of them are so talented and have given the world these treasures of songs. From my own brief encounters with both of them, they both seem to be very good people too. They are both very humble and seem to be very thankful. Such amazing talent. It just makes it more beautiful that they are loving caring people too.

I've seen Mr. Taylor in concert at least three times and his timidity is one of his most endearing characteristics. He was so young here, with his first wife, but his published songs of his own are and will always be close to my heart.

When I was a teenager while others were listening to rock i was listening to James Taylor and Carol King. During that time of life and the troubles I was going through the words made sense to me and what I was going on. When I hears their songs it takes me back and remember the pain 💔 and the broken relationship I had with a certain girl. The one that got away, and what changed my life forever without her. I look back and think of her and if we had made how my life could have been different. I'm not saying my life sucked and it has been good but the songs take me back and thinking what if. That's life.

@@donaldcook3273 yes, beautifully put. I too have looked back on life. What if, so many things. What if the one who loved you but, was too chicken to stand up for it. What if you'd ended up together? There's a lot of what if situations. To have loved and been loved, is the greatest gift of all. What if we had married someone else? I'd say, it wasn't meant to be. To have loved and had a good life is wonderful. Life is all about the good times and the not so good times. They are what builds strength and character. But, I love what you wrote and how you put things. Music does take us back to the good ole days. When you walked barefoot thru the grass, together at the concert. Romantic and beautiful memories.

I'm 42. We know. You need to talk to people under 30. HOWEVER your other sentence is awful. what do you mean by screaming about your lot in life and how does that relate to this video? people have every right to confront racism, sexism, homophobia etc. every right. The only reason you don't want to hear it is you're probably guilty of it and you're likely privileged enough not to experience it. Lucky you but you're not going to try to convince people that they shouldn't have what you have. They have every right to shout for what they want. It should bother you that people who don't look like you aren't experiencing the same basic requirements. 'Bully the world' - yes because that's possible isn't it? Jesus Christ. There's a saying. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Love is so precious, and unique. It's a shame to not grab your chance at love when it comes to you. I think people think too much today. Every love is different and many kinds and types. You can love someone yet not be in love with them. No two are alike. Some are intense, to love someone else more than yourself. To the point that you can't live without each other. That is the greatest love of all. And no I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world. Yes, it hurts when they pass away and leave you behind. And no my heart hasn't healed and never will. Yet I would be sooooo happy to be in love again. You will yearn for it. And savor each and every little thing about it. All your special moments. Indelibly written in your mind, heart and soul. If you don't, I'm sorry for you. Cause you're missing out on life's greatest gifts. This is what life is all about. Think about it.

I gotta be a solo adventurer in life and I haven't found love with a woman yet that makes me want to settle down for the rest of Earth life. And it just became unfair to women to let them fall in love with me and then pull the plug after a year or less. So out of respect of women I walk my path alone now.

Such a beautiful couple.Good songwriters, Good singers.

Several years ago I saw JT with Carole King in Atlanta, GA. I love Carole and listened to her and Carly almost exclusively during my early teens. This was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen! They sang together as well as did a set of their own music. There were no opening acts. Didn’t need one! Their extensive list of hits gave each one plenty of music to play without any repeats. It was a magical night!

Such a magical duo. Musically and in so many ways.

The 70s were GREAT. .. I really miss the great music of those years.. A lot of these older rock stars are 15 to 20 years older than me... I grew up with them.. when Gregg Allman passed away and then Tom Petty.. John Henry Bonham of Zeppelin (and OTHERS. . of course.. ) .. it just really took a hunk out of my heart.. in a way they were like family... :)

However, not forgetting the Vietnam war, the assasination of the Kennedy's, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King. The music of the 60's, 70', 80' and 90' was the best era. The beautiful people. I saw them in 1977 at a party in Benedict Canyon. He’s 6’3” and she’s 5’10”. They were quite a presence.

I was a little girl and my parents had a wide variety for us kids to listen to- simon & garfunkle, linda ronsdadt, janis joplin, gladys knight & pips- little river band and many more. 🕵 It's unfair that Carly Simon only got inducted in 2022 when James Taylor got in 22 yrs earlier. IMHO he had only 1 really good song, Fire and Rain, and that was in the beginning of his career while she kept coming out with big hits like Nobody Does It Better, You're So Vain, Working Girl theme, etc. Her family was ahead of their time too. Her father was the co-founder of publishing house Simon & Schuster, and her family shared their home with Jackie Robinson and his family for a year and a half in the 1950s when racial tension made it hard for them to move to the suburbs.

Love how they just let Sally play around and sing without making her “hush” or “behave”.

Carly and James were/are 70s folk & pop royalty. American songbook. This interview is a sweet slice of their early parenthood. Glad I stumbled on it.

Some beautiful people in a beautiful time. I was young learning chords on an acoustic guitar. There were so many artists that I wanted to follow. Both James and Carley were in my record collection.

Completely agree. This is the way life is suppose to be. Young man,youngvwoman and baby. Its the most natural order of life. How we are MEANT to live. That's why it looks and feels wrong when you see women who could be grandma's with babies of their own or pregnant because they decided to wait on kids and put career first, or these old men trying to land 20 somethings and becoming first time dads in their fifties. How times have changed.

@@kreri8129 never stated older moms were lesser parents than younger ones, but the fact remains that biologically womens bodies weren't designed to start families at 39 and beyond. More power to the women who defied nature and went on to have their families and be awesome moms. But it's still doesnt change the fact that young adults are physically better suited for procreation.

Bonus: if you listen to the audiobook, there's a lot of cool musical interludes between the chapters: some archival, some new. Carly also narrates the book and she has a lovely and soothing speaking voice. Spoiler: James had a young Asian girlfriend, that + his ongoing drug problem pretty much ended their marriage.

Oh this interview makes me homesick. I'm from New England in CT. I actually spent summers on the Vineyard in Oaks Bluffs in the 90s. My uncle& aunt had 2 summer homes there. One year my family and I rode over on the ferry and Suzanne DePasse and her mother were on board. Another time Spike Lee was on the ferry when my cousin rode over. My uncle's other home is in Edgartown not far from where the Kennedy's have a home. One summer when we were riding around in open jeeps we went by the Kennedy home and they were having this lavish lawn party. It was great. I miss those times and they seem so long ago. I'm in NC now & came here via living out near Seattle, WA which I lived out there for a few years also. I haven't been to the Vineyard in years. One day I'll get back there, but New England winters are cold. Brrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! James and Carly are awesome artists, songwriters and vocalists. Would love to see James live. I grew up on their music.

Loved this couple. Was in my 40s when they became so very special to me. Their harmony seemed to mirror their personal life together. Sad that they grew apart but don’t we all?🥰

Just finished reading her autobiography, and wow, what wonderful people and artists. Apart from the obvious musical creative talent they both had, she also struggled with a terrible stutter all her life. Love you Carly and Sweet Baby James.

she was ,and is,a better artist. I hate drugies, all the good ones gone, drugs, they mess up a woman too, thank God she did her no matter what, he wasnt that great

I saw an interview recently, a long time after this, and James admitted he was in no condition to be a good husband or father at this time in his life. He's clearly evolved as he's aged and owns up to the error of his ways. 👍

Carly and her sister Lucy did duets, too. Lucy wrote music to some children's poetry and they did an album of it, finally now on cd, too. Love it. Great duets and single numbers.

He couldn’t find a job because he didn’t have papers, so he made a record. Amazing. It’s so interesting how things were back then. Thanks for posting ✌️❤️

Too bad they couldn’t make it last. They look so perfect together and their daughter is beautiful!

I bet seeing her and James together like this just breaks her heart . . . I think they would still be together if it weren't for the drugs.

Watched her interview with Dan Rather not too long ago. She still loves him it was pretty plain. He won’t even step foot on the island when she’s there is what she said. Pretty sad.

What a Beautiful Couple, how sad their breakup was!

Dag, Sally was in a content mood that day :) And the parents were great with her during the filming.

I love these singers.

James Taylor has such a soft and calming voice. Always loved his music, and still do. Irs a shame that they split up. I'm glad he got over his drug problem.

It was RADIO that made these legends of music! Sound needs the space of AIR to live. Such a pyramid of musical power.

I met Sally in Colorado in the late 90's and she was extremely sweet and humble. Just a beautiful woman that, not surprisingly, looked like her MOM
