Well, I'm watching this in May 2024. I'm in my 60s and I have been an intrigued follower of Carly Simon and her music ever since I can remember. Even before seeing this video, and as of today, I still have several of her songs on my USB playlist in my car. As was said, Carly sings for everyone - we have gone through what she sings about. I won't ever stop listening to her music - even today, her music brings a calm and a smile to my world. Greetings from New Zealand.

Her songs hit you like a ton of bricks. They're real, sincere, and the product of someone who has dealt with the same pain we all have had. I'm 66 and I honestly go to pieces when I hear them again. Life is really about a lot of pain, a lot of forgiveness and a few moments of indescribable joy. Carly, you speak to all three.

I have loved her since I 1st heard You're So Vain & ran out to get that album all because I heard Mick Jagger singing, and I was crazy for Mick Jagger. But that lead to buying every album Carly Simon has ever made. I'm also 66, & these songs bring back such awesome memories of that time way back. But I loved her words, she wrote about sitting home alone, wondering where James Taylor was. It just cut right down to every emotion. Sometimes I felt she was writing for me, exactly about what I was going through. And Carly wrote most her songs, played every instrument, she was so unique in that respect. She's amazing, I would sew my own clothes and copy her outfits. And, I was always told that, I looked like Carly Simon. But more, I look like Steven Tyler

In person, one-on-one, she is so genuine and doesn't put on a fake public persona. She truly is an American treasure.

This Lifetime Portrait is the best expose on her life I've seen. 1974 I was 14, and she was the 2nd female artist to have a strong influence on me as a writer and singer. The 1st was Carole King in 1970 with "Tapestry". Theses ladies were and are wordsmiths of the finest quality. My 'discovery' of Joni Mitchell at age 18 in 1978 began a lifetime of inspiration and admiration as well. Thank you for being human, and vunerable and creative Carly.

I went to Riverdale Country School from 1958 to 1961 with Carly. She was in the girls school but we both sang in the Riverdale Country School small Chorus. This was directed by Russel Ames, a talented Harvard trained music director who also organized musicals at the school. We sang classical music like The Fouree Requiem or others classical music for the Riverdale community. I never knew that she stuttered. I considered her a classy lady. We even went over to her home and played pool after the Friday night small chorus rehearsals. She had a very strong alto voice and we even did duets together. I have always admired her and followed her career.

Especially at that time when there was not many female singers who wrote and sang their own music. I adored her....wished I looked like her...( I don't)...and her albums played on my little stereo constantly. My daughter grew up with me listening to Carly all the time....my daughter especially liking the "Itsy Bitsy spider" !!! . what a national treasure she is.... and I hope she does get invited into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. God knows she deserves it.

She is one of the two people I would pay to see. I love all her tunes and I love her. She is the real deal and her songs play in my head like a friend who has come to greet me. I love the hits and all the others that didn't get to be hits, but should have. I love you Carly your music has carried me through so many good and bad times and I thank you for that. I have one disc in my car and it's yours!

Listen to her talk, listen to her lyrics, listen to her music, or just watch her, and it quickly becomes apparent that Carly is a very special, extraordinary human being, and not just in music. Even if you’ve never seen or heard of her, she’s one of those people that you instantly think to yourself, “Wow, who is THAT, who was THAT?!” She’s very, very special, and has brought so much joy, to so many people, in so many different ways. And she’s probably not even aware of it. I hope she’s truly happy. She deserves it.

It all came to a head in October of 1981, when Simon had embarked on a tour in support of her 1980 full-length, Come Upstairs, and breakout single, "Jesse," which peaked at #11 on the US Hot 100. While onstage for the first of two shows in Pittsburgh, the singer was gripped by an overwhelming anxiety attack.

Carly Simon standing at the gate on the cover of her album “Anticipation” She was obviously positioned with a good deal of light behind her sheer outfit. That album cover got certain juices flowing for my fourteen years of age at that time. Of course that incredible Powerful sensual voice, yeah she had the whole package. Meeting her in later years was quite an experience.

Definitely not a saint. What Carly wants, Carly makes sure she gets, no matter who gets hurt in the process. I've loved her music for decades, and felt sorry for her re: JT. But not after weighing up all I've learned over the years... She's a very cagey game player, and an arch-manipulator. A survivor of a horrendous childhood which left her chronically love-starved and self-absorbed, but also quite ruthless. This memoir is full of contradictions and significant gaps...
