People usually say, myself included "I could listen to X reading the phone book", though with Spader in-character one should totally expect him reverting to the distraction technique of regaling some vent of his life or somebody else's life to gauge how honest they are, so I could totally imagine Spader making up stories about the people in the book.

Many of those stories of restaurants and piazzas and ocean nights has been his experiences

The last seasons are being carried solely by this man's immense charisma.

wrong - it's not solely his charisma. It's also his voice. I tune in to the show just so I can hear this man talk... doesn't even matter what he is talking about... for all I care, he could read from the user's manual and warranty information of a vacuum cleaner or a toaster... or better yet: BOTH... If someone else became Raymond Reddington, the shows wouldn't have making me curious the whole time. Sometimes I try to encourage myself it's all the script, but nope. It was James Spader character the whole time. Look at the way he talk during interviewed, Raymond Reddington was made for him. Anyone else can play, yes. But never as perfect as him.

he is probably my favorite actor, and literally irreplaceable in The Blacklist. I've never been so into a show in my life than watching him. You could throw out 100% of the other "main characters" and keep him and there's still a show

I absolutely adore this guy! Hes brilliant as an actor in this role where his character is so beautifully complex in a twist of characteristics like cruelty٫ coldness٫ sweet compassion٫ deep caring٫ love٫ decency٫ unending loyalty٫ and determination٫ Its such a cornucopia of characteristics that makes you not know for sure if you want to dispise him or love him! James Spaders dipiction of Red is so totally flawless I feel nothing but pure admiration and awe for him!

How this man has never won an Emmy for this character (Raymond Reddington) is beyond comprehension...Oh and btw, Bokenkamp, don't ever do anything to Dembe whenever the show wraps.

A one of a kind actor. He said he only does a role he is interested in, not a role that will be part of a hit show. I believe him. He is doing what he enjoys, what he loves. The amazing James Spader.

Mr. Spader is a tremendous talent. I've been convinced watching many of the episodes of The Blacklist that some of his lines were ad lib and very entertaining. I recall several in fact. The last episode, part cartoon and part whatever they had managed to produce before covid hit hard in NYC was very good. I like the staff snapshots etc. Nice people all of them. I hope that they have been able to produce some more episodes by working around the plague. Mr. Spader, if you read these comments, I want to say "Thank You". My wife and I enjoyed Blacklist together for years through her cancer. She is gone now since a year ago but we had a lot of laughs and good times watching the show. Thank you!

Reddington is smart enough to know, most of the time, there are "smart" adversaries out there and he has to use every resource to not let them beat him..There was one person who darned near beat him at every turn and he didn't know who it was. If I was to compare Reddington to another character, it would be Batman, but he uses a gun, among other weapons, and has a penchant for opponents to be dispatched to the next life. Dembee would be his nightmare version of Alfred, lol lol. Just my humble thoughts.

I love that he has "his" laugh and his physical emotive behaviors as reddington, It is perfect for the character.

My husband and I LOVE this show. It's our absolute favorite. James Spader is divine in his acting and delivery.

I just started watching Blacklist at the end of March. Now I'm on season 6 smh this show is addictive. I love me some Reddington...that's one smooth ass criminal. Plus when he talks and all his antics...you have to love his character❤

What a great interview. Thoughtful and he didn't talk over him. He seemed genuinely interested in the answers. James Spader is at very the top off my list of the people on earth I would love to meet. I have idolized him since White Palace

I'm so hooked on this show, it's such an addiction. The beat show ever, never looses it's momentum.

I CAN'T believe they wanted to cancel by Season 7. This show is absolutely phenomenal. The acting is MARVELOUS.

I mentioned that I caught myself using his style of speaking. An attorney friend responded that she did that in court appearance once and she felt like it really helped her.

TBH I just love Reddington's repertoire! Being an English Literature lover I absolutely enjoy his play of words...😂 He was great in Boston Legal too....👍

Imagine having a President that was like Raymond, his character is so convincing, wise, and yet so caring. I would listen to him all day.

James Spader: «Well, the interview was great.» Journalist: «I Agree, hope i’ll see you sometime soon.» James: *Pulls out Gun, shoots journalist twice in the chest, puta Gun back in, pulls fedora out while his hand gets out of his coat, puts fedora on his head* Dembe: *looks at James* «We should leave now!» James: «I suppose we should.»

@@sharon012490 Spoiler Alert: Mr. Kaplan betrayed Reddington (though in my opinion she didn't), and got shot, only to survive, and after a series of sabotages made by Mr. Kaplan, Reddington tried to repent and give her a private island only for her to order Tom Keen to unearth a briefcase with bones there, and she committed suicide by jumping off the bridge.

I absolutely LOVE this show and Spader’s role!! I have been binge watching for several weeks and am currently on Season 7… I am just as enthralled with it now as I was with the first episode. Phenomenal show!!

James is so much an academic, he could be a tenured professor and a teacher of acting.

James Spader is an incredible actor...he can give a certain type of look while in charactor that has the most coldest stare with lifeless eyes. I love watching the show "The Blacklist"

Sonny Badyal "...he can give a certain type of look while in character..." I just learned, from another youtube video, that he has a dry eyes condition. He was asked why does not wear contact lenses instead of prescription glasses for his increasing poor vision. He said contacts bother his eyes because he does not blink enough to keep his eyes moist. I always wondered why he had that unique, "I'm looking at you, but I'm seeing something more" look, which seemed to add something to all the characters he has played. It works really well with his the Reddington character. Reddington could probably tell an adversary, "Let's see who bllnks first" and win, lol. I don't think anyone would disagree about his years of big and small screen acting chops, but his eyes alone, should get an Emmy, lol. I'm thinking if there was a song done about Betty Davis' eyes, someone could do one about James Spader's/Raymond Reddington's eyes. My apologies for going on so long, but I am an old a$$ fan dude, with 13 years on him. Everyone else has seemed to have said all the great things about him, so these are my few little thoughts about an actor who does not ever seem to be acting and maybe that is what his greatness is all about....and those eyes👍.

I can't believe I completely missed "The Blacklist" until last month (September 2021) when it popped up as a Netflix recommendation. OMG, OMG, where was I? Abducted by aliens and memory-wiped? Now, of course, I can binge-watch all 8 seasons, and even some of the latest season. Spader is a unique, natural presence, as evidenced in this interview, which makes the series totally believable, in spite of the improbable situations presented. I hope Spader never changes his philosophy on life and acting as it adds immeasurably to his performance. Thanks, James Spader.

I love that we can look at his full body of work, over decades. We learn that an actor is an actor despite the age of his outer shell. That’s mastery.

Ilir J, you know what. At first I was pretty sure I knew. However, I went back and viewed parts of season 4 and 5. Now I’m not certain🤔 Oh well 😔. I’ll do what I’ll always do, watch the re-runs and argue with my boss at work about my theories👍🏾🔥 Plus gives me more reasons to stare at James Spader😍

Great interview on both ends of the conversation. Spader is an absolutely brilliant presence. Blacklist is one of if not the best show I've ever seen.

James Spader is just as interesting off screen as he is on screen. Seems like a real good man. His acting prowess is truly second to none.

I love James Spader. I love his character in The blacklist. I've followed his career and love every character he played but this one on the blacklist is by far his best yet. In love.

I enjoyed watching him cant wait for season 8. The way he love Dembe and Lizzy and l always repeat his scenes with Glen

The most compelling show I have ever see. Would it work as well without James Spader? Possibly but I cannot think of anyone who could play Red and grip you from the very beginning. The addition of Characters like Dembe, Liz, Harold etc make it even more special. The vast array of other wonderful Characters, including Tom and so many more are just incredible.

Mr. Spader is on top of his game, he's amazing. No one could replace "Red" with his quick Witt's, comical stories and his ruthlessness but he also has a strong loving caring side. I really hate to see this end.

His laugh.. 😁😂 Only James Spader (Reddington) would turn a serious matter into a funny matter and it would still make sense.

Love the character and the actor is so talented that it is hard to separate the two. Perfection at its best. The way they use vocabulary words has me intrigued.

Love love love The Blacklist. Hes perfect for this character! I would definitely say this show is one of the best I've ever seen. Not just the actors but the writers.....amazing.

I have NEVER been so hooked on a TV show. BRILLIANT and Raymond Reddington is the best.

I've been such a big fan of his since bad influence with Rob Lowe. I cannot believe the show's been on for 8 years and I just started watching it two weeks ago and I can't stop and there's so many episodes in each season thank you so much for having me binge I never get tired of you James keep up the great work you deserve all the accolades you get

All I can say is I can’t tell the difference between himself and the carácter. I mean hearing him here is like watching him acting in one of the episodes. I just love him!!!!

Every time I listen to James Spader I feel like I'm being treated to a free Master Class.

I still amazed by his narration of food recipe in the show 😁 his sense of humor is adorable.. I love Raymond Reddington that character is mesmerizing to me!

Spader is a natural Redington 👍

James Spade plays this character so well. He has become one of my favorite actor's after watching the blacklist

James Spader has the effortless swagger and eloquence that I myself aspire to have in approximately 15 years from now when I am the same age as he was circa season 1 of The Blacklist (I won't hold my breath though haha!). He is such a huge presence that he makes camera operators have to work harder to catch every micro expression from his facial muscles, body language and posture. Yet the crew members who have to work the hardest of all are the boom operators lest they fail to get the most perfect quality audio recordings of how he ad libs on his scripts! He's one of those TV actors who are far too marvelous to be a Hollywood movie A lister due to the intense commercialism of the standard 90- 120 page script form of Story telling making the primary goal of cinema profit over artistic elegance. He's perfect for storytelling over circa 20 episodic installments of 40-60 page scripts broadcast over the course of a year. I think he's literally one of the most unique, remarkable and underrated actors of the 21st century!

he was hotttttttt when he was younger - and now that we both are older - he's still hot!

James spader deserves a golden globe for his performance it was absolutely amazing 🥹😍❤️

I've Really loved this guy's performance ever since the first season..the other characters are great too but this one is just stunning in every sense of the word

Man, I've been watching it on NBC since episode 1, babay! I absolutely lurve him as Red Reddington!!! Alan Shore, his character on Boston Legal, is since one of my many favorite Spader roles! James is a damn foxxy fellow!!!

James Spader literally and figuratively carries the whole show, without him, Blacklist would not make it at all! His charismatic enigma and even his sartorial sense showcase here as much as in the show. Amazing!

Raymond Redington is hands down one of the top 5 TV characters of all time!! Spader is an absolute genius!!
