I think people need to be realistic. The damage the Tories have done to the country is both serious and extensive. It is not going to be fixed quickly, perhaps not within this term of parliament.. The Labour government are going to have to make some hard decisions, and it's not always going to be easy. We aren't out of the woods yet, but I am hopeful.

I think you need to be more realistic. Labour are committed to the same austerity, fiscal drag, corporate prioritization, and culture wars, that have made the last 14 years so unbearable. And with the Tories in opposition and the youth vote going far-right, Labour have no reason to stray from that path.

Absolutely. We can even disagree with his politics but we can all agree that John Major is a dignified and smart stateman who seems to genuinely want to serve the country.

Keep in mind Reform had more coverage than the Lid Dems, Plaid, the SNP, all indpendents and Greens combined. Yet got 14% of the vote and 4 seats, where as they got 94 seats and 22% of the vote. Reform at times having equal air time to the tories and labour, there was talk of them being a 3rd party in the debates. This is why reform did so well.

Reform will take more Conservative votes next time across the board I would imagine, and that will take the pressure off of Green voters there to vote tactically. Plus I think Labour are going to loose their far left voters next election. I hope Labour do well, but if they don't, I think these last two decades should teach us that tactical voting doesn't seem to work, and you just got to vote for who you want, and be patient.

Corbyn was unelectable for many traditionally Labour voters, combined with him being blasted in the media the Tories managed to get another 5 years. At this election not only did the "Red Wall" in the north of England flip back to Labour, but the right-wing vote was split by the Reform party.

The worst of it is I feel nothing at the moment except exhaustion with it all. The last 14 years have left me personally almost ruined in mind, body and spirit. If you think about it, it's even more poetic and admirable. That the job of restoring the credibility of democracy and government rests upon the hands of Keir Starmer, literally just a normal, sane human being. He doesn't have many heroic traits that we know of, so to speak. But maybe that's what's heroic about it. I wouldn't trade for his job, you can be sure of that at least. I wish him the best.

I’m in my mid 30’s and I Conservatives have really done a lot to negatively impact my life by quite a bit. Millennials all over the country have been pressed over and over since we became adults and even before. I am genuinely excited about the next 15-20 years. I hope labour don’t let me down.

Decency,integrity and honesty needs to be the watchword for Labour.

Tories get in and changed to pip where he and countless thousands whom would never recover had to go through the process again and again every 2-3 years. I swear the stress of it all killed him when he was only 65. It’s an abhorrent process. Esther Mcvey didn’t get her nickname for nothing. She was known as Mcvile for what she did to the sick and disabled. Whistleblowers have even said how they were told to smell applicants and look how well they were dressed. If they didn’t smell awful they were marked down and often refused help.

I'm just so relieved this is now over, and now this country can get back on track. What's most important to me now is that we now have a new Government that will give hope to the likes of my Grandchildren, their future is what's important to me, that we give them a nation to be proud of and the opportunites that they deserve. A decent education, health service, job security and a pension at the end of their working lives, and the same for their children and grandchildren. Congratulations to Sir Kier Starmer, his team and the Labour Party. I wish them all well as they begin the unenviable task of putting right all that has been done to this country and it's people.

Thanks so much James for helping to keep us sane over the last 14 years (particularly the last 8) of tories damage, lies and deciet which has been cheered on by alot of the spineless media. Not expecting miracles from Labour but as Steve Bray was playing when the election was announced, things can only get better ❤️

I stayed awake until midnight saw some of the results trickling in, and then slept quite soundly. I don't know if i slept better knowing that we're all finally out from under the cosh of 14 years of bad gov't, but this morning does feel like a breath of fresher air. Here's hoping the repair work to our country's economy (and psyche) starts now 🌅

Starmer and rest of Labour now have a fantastic platform to give hope and trust in government to the many who stood disillusioned, lost and franchised.

For the first time in years, the majority has held priviliged people to account. Lets hope this leads to a better, more respectful, more fair country.

When the new elected labour Prime Minister goes to the King to ask to form a government, i hope the king can speak up for the homeless poor and destitute and that the new prime minister will end homelessness once and for all we are only a few months away before winter comes

@@IRSH-sy5jn I believe homelessness is managed by local authorities, I was homeless back in December, I managed to get shelter food and eventually accommodation, it took 5 weeks but it was all supplied by voluntary Christian organisations and the local council

As a Dutchman I follow UK politics for 8+ years now. Obviously my interest is the EU. And what a journey it has been. Mostly surprised that, dare I say his name, Nigel F. has become an MP. He is dangerous and should not be underestimated. Apart from that; glad this is over. Lets hope this new government will take the right steps; proportions representation, reform of the house of Lords and a written constitution and then back in the EU. Would be great.
