'Why does Nigel Farage's party attract so many racists?' | James O'Brien on LBC

James O'Brien reacts to research that suggests 'lurching to the far-right makes you less happy' and considers what it is about Nigel Farage that still draws people to support him.
According to some polls, support for Reform UK has 'surged' in the UK since Farage became leader of the party and one study projects them to win 18 seats in the General Election.
But James questions the allure of Farage and Reform UK - asking why the party continues to stand behind outspoken candidates.

Very humorous, clever and accurate comment! Trouble is though, they are vetting their candidates and supporters and sacrifice them when they are found out and their abhorrent comments made public. Farage can try and distance himself from these characters as much as he likes, but there will be more and if they somehow manage to gain any seats in the House of Commons, I can guarantee that the press are going to hound them and investigative journalists are going to do some of their best work of their careers. Farage knows this and that is why he purposefully banks at the very private bank, Coutts. He should be aware that the truth always prevails.

Because were I to rattle off various things I know of Labour voters and party members to be, likely as not the post would be deleted, you'd have a melt down and someone would report it. For your information, were my parents still alive I'm sure they'd both vote Reform. Neo-nazis? The thing is my Father met real nazis, real Gestapo, a prisoner for a while. The likes of you wouldn't last 5 minutes in the situation men of that era found themselves in, and I can guarantee you most of that era would be behind Reform. He specializes in doing what he calls 'rough speaking' which is his fake cockney accent. He plays gangsters, and advertises himself as available for 'secret filming'. He's also previously worked for Channel 4. Those are facts. Yet, for some reason Channel 4 unable to also uncover those facts about him when doing due diligence? Ask yourself if it's at all realistic for an equity member, even if he held those opinions, to risk being kicked out of equity ( as they did to Laurence Fox) for voicing such abhorrent opinions publicly? Of course not. He would never work as an actor again. Now let's look at this: An actor, who doesn't live in Clacton, who specializes in 'rough speaking' and 'secret filming' with a past history of working for Channel 4, just happens to turn up in Clacton, to volunteer, on the same day an 'undercover' film crew is there, and just happens to get in their car, then just happens to voice the most abhorrent over to top views, which feed into the cognitive bias of the political Left. HOW REALISTIC is it for all of that to be a pure coincidence?

One is forgetting the opposite of extremes attract one another. One must have noted the first few minutes of the BBC Leaders debate on Wednesday where a pro- Palestinian Group outside attempted to drown it out. Also with demonstrator invading The PM private residences. Adding also the spectacle of pressure groups with loudspeaker trying to drown out PM leader speeches from outside no 10. The point being there in an assault of national institutions and ways of life and it's not always unique or a monopoly to one side. In some cases anti- extreme think tanks cite moderate areas like Brexit as extreme but some of these come under a political ideology of one side. So we don't get a wide overview of social prejudice. The James Obrien view taps into the one interpretation. That fails to present a social examination of all political extremes

Generally those on the left are unhappy because they feel they've got too much while other people don't have enough, and those on the right are unhappy because they feel they've not got enough while other people have got too much. The major difference is that those on the left see the rich and powerful as the source of the problem whereas those on the right see the poor and defenceless as the source of the problem. Again, I feel I have to point out for the hard of thinking that this is expressed in the most general terms; please don't come back with an argument along the lines of suggesting that Keir Starmers Curry was a crime of equal weight to Boris Johnson partying as thousands died and then lying about it. Unless of course you work for the Daily Mail, in which case you can f*ck off anyway.

No. You’re classified as far right by voting for far right parties promoting far right policies. It’s not just name calling like you want to think it is because you have a relentless victim complex & you’d rather try to hijack the debate as being about name calling than respond to the accusations honestly. There is a science behind grading political parties & their policies. But it’s always funny how the far left never cry about being called far left. In fact the far left try to compete for who’s the furthest left. With the far right you always cry about being accurately described like being far right has some bad history or something.
