Israel says Gazan civilians are dying because Hamas is using them as human shields. They issue warnings, and anyone who doesn't leave is then at risk of death by airstrikes. Now, unless the basic concept of hostage-takers has changed in recent months, hostages can't heed those warnings. The hostage-takers, if using Gazan civilians as human shields, would have no qualms about using the hostages as human shields too. So Israel's defence about Gazan deaths is the exact reason why hostages will die. It isn't a hostage rescue. Any hostages that make it back to Israel do so through sheer luck that they didn't get hit by an airstrike. If, on the other hand, Israel was keenly aware of the exact locations of the hostages, they'd be doing a terrible job of rescuing them, because they appear to be too busy bombing the rest of Gaza to actually perform hostage rescue operations. Then again, Israel may assume that the hostages are all in the tunnels. You know, the ones they've started flooding. Everyone knows that terrorists sink and hostages float, so obviously this is a state-of-the-art hostage rescue tactic.

Israel is an apartheid state with an Illegal settlement expansion. Also, while Jews have historical ties to the region dating back 3,500 years, the Canaanites, who are the ancestors of the Palestinians, had already been established there long before the arrival of the Jews. Holding a party close to a region marked by significant and systemic oppression (i.e. Gaza which is an open-air prison), especially when such oppression is executed as "collective punishment" by one's own government, reflects deep insensitivity. As individuals, confronting injustice is not just an option, but a duty; that is the stance they should have adopted instead of dancing around. It is important to note that they were on land that is internationally recognized as Palestinian territory, which has been occupied illegally by Israel. Simply put, they should not have been on that land.

Israel has written off the hostage. We saw an Israeli rep asked about this the other day and he said the priority was destroying Hamas. A notional hostage rescue attempt would be extremely dangerous and unlikely to succeed; that answer can only mean they aren't even going to try. It should also be remembered that in 2018 the Palestinians held the"Great March of Return"; it was non-violent and civilian. Israel responded by gunning them down en masse.

They did not just start blasting and blow up every city in their way k ill thousands of civilians and find no hostages, except when they did small missions that have low civilian casaulty rates, almost like k illing all those civilians is just a sick and twisted version of revenge.

Sometimes hostages are nothing more than a shield to enable a terrorist to carry out attacks with impunity. And with Hamas, we've already seen evidence of one murdered hostage so I don't think it's a stretch to assume they are all dead no matter what Israel does short of a completely lopsided prisoner exchange which I doubt Hamas honestly believes Israel is going to be willing to do at this point since it would bolster Hamas forces.

Michelle says that Jews are far better at 'doing' things rather than speaking before being grateful we don't have Corbyn as PM - but the irony is, for all the things Corbyn ever said whilst in Labour, his parliamentary record when it comes to votes supporting Jewish communities is outstanding. Don't take my word for it, it's a matter of public record; in 2003, Corbyn was among the first MPs to sign EDM 123, explicitly condemning antisemitism, in 2009, he signed EDM 850, congratulating Jewish News on an investigation into antisemitism on Facebook, in 2013, just five months after his Facebook comment about the mural, Corbyn was one of only thirty-three MPs to sign EDM 1133, condemning antisemitism in sport and calling for the adoption of all necessary measures to combat it. These are but a few examples. So when she says she can only imagine what Corbyn's premiership would have looked like, all she need do is look at his voting record as an MP

Why would James be called an anti-semite ? He's only doing what the rest of us have been doing.... assessing the proposed invasion... the goals, the risks, the civilian death, and yes.. the potential for successfully rescuing hostages. It deserves airing, and is neither anti-semitic nor anti-Israel state. The caller should not feel like most of us are against her or Israel per se. People are against furthering the deaths, and furthering recruitment to Hamas.

It's a disservice to the jews that experience ACTUAL anti semitism and, in the long run, dilutes the impact of that word

Thank you for asking the right questions. Its complex and most people do not understand the history of this tragic situation that both sides find themselves facing. At the same time there is lots of dis/misinformation on Social media. Collective punishment that also puts the hostages at risk should not be conflated with the view that the actions will actually result in rescue of the hostages. According to me Israel is just retaliating to save face. In my opinion their actions in Gaza will merely result in the elimination of the hostages either by IDF actions or by actions of Hamas leadership. I believe that Hamas leadership are not idiots. They know the consequences of their heinous actions and are ready to pay the ultimate price together with the Israeli hostages and innocent Palestinians that have been hostages to Israel in Gaza for 16 years. All sides are trying to score points in a devastating situation for both sides.
