If anyone is actually a fan and knows Metallica, they’d know that all along James has said from the beginning he’s a shy, quiet kind of guy that struggles with this all, but when he goes up on stage it transforms him into something more. I'm not exactly a FAN. I grew up on their music. Cliff Burton was their finest hour. I won't say that the guys rolled down or got "dirty" next.. No, they are an exception to the rule. But - the loss of Burton, as the second ideological inspirer of the group, placed such a burden on James.. He did the best he could.. In my opinion, who stopped listening to the band after the 1991... this was the end of the ORIGINAl Metallica. "Nothing Else Matters" is the only diamond Hatfield created as a leader. Tough guy, anyway..

A small Tipp for all the people, who are getting really nervous right before the concert: Think about what makes you nervous? Is it messing or embarrassing yourself in front of the audience? Or getting lost during the show? The trick is, you can release this nervousness, if you get rid of your anxieties. What, if your most important goal is not messing up but instead having a hell lot of fun on stage? All of a sudden you will feel way more relaxed. And do not worry, you will still give your very best!

Yeah I think it’s 99.9% forgetting your part. The more you think about it, the more likely it happens. I was a vocalist and discovered you can just bark and scream whatever and most people won’t notice the difference. So that always helps.
@JXter_

Having played a fair number of concerts myself, part of my anxiety comes from not wanting to miss any cues or forgetting the chords. I keep in mind that, when on stage, you will only perform as well as you are prepared (so I try to be on top of it!). A good way I've figured out to mentally prepare for a show and stop myself from freezing up on stage is by treating every performance as just simply a rehearsal, or better yet, to treat every rehearsal as a performance. It's fine to get anxiety before a performance for any and all reasons, and I think pretty much everyone does to some extent, but as soon as you're up, it should feel like you're just hanging out and having fun with what you've prepared.

They just released the "Creeping Death" maxi and on the back cover there is a photograph of the same four guys, looking much more mature and self confident and James appears to be a full scale frontman of this band, that made it from underground sensation to one of the best and most influental bands, up there with Maiden and Priest in just one year. This requires dedication. After all these years and so many concerts, I am 100% sure that there are moments, there are beginnings of concerts, when - for whatever reason; mental, physical, age, etc. - he finds it difficult to start and would prefer to be somewhere else in peace with a cigar but he still does it because he is dedicated.
Was in a touring band for several years in the oughts, played shows where the only audience was the owners basically, to sold out shows with larger bands where we were the opener. Without a doubt, and no matter the size of the crowd, the euphoria of being on stage and putting on an energetic show is the best feeling in the entire planet.

@sibbyeskie

Yeah I think it’s 99.9% forgetting your part. The more you think about it, the more likely it happens. I was a vocalist and discovered you can just bark and scream whatever and most people won’t notice the difference. So that always helps.
@JXter_
11 ай бұрын
Flashback 1983: For the first time I read about a young underground band from America. There is a picture of four wild looking teenagers, they seem so much younger than Maiden, Saxon, Priest. It's written, that they have just released the fastest record ever. "OK" everybody thinks "they are extreme, they are underground and will always be!" Flashback 1984: Every Metal fan knows Metallica. They just released the "Creeping Death" maxi and on the back cover there is a photograph of the same four guys, looking much more mature and self confident and James appears to be a full scale frontman of this band, that made it from underground sensation to one of the best and most influental bands, up there with Maiden and Priest in just one year. "OK" everybody thinks "they will be very big - inside the Metal scene." ....I wanted to go on writing, but I am lazy now.... 😴

Such an amazing and inspiring human being. I grew up with their music from the age of 13 RTL and MOP followed by And Justice are their best for sure....i still remember hearing Damage Inc on Friday rock show radio back in 1987.
It amazes me that these guys still have a sense of nervous energy before going out on stage. You would assume that it would be just another day at the office for them after all these years. So cool to see that they take it that seriously that it still gets them excited.

This man has provided so much inspiration to me over the years. Thank you.
I'll never forget hanging with James in backyard keg pouring loud crowded parties in Downey, CA before moving to SF bay area or battle of bands shows. He was cool then looks kool here. $3.00 entrance fee free beer and great show! Rock on!
Music is a physical activity. Their brand is extremely so. I can imagine the joint pain after 40 years of thrashing and touring. Just incredible.

So personal and raw to see.... we love Papa Het! You are the best front man I've ever seen... ❤️
The great James Hetfield. What a legend
James is channeling the machine he becomes on stage, the energy to play at that level at his age does not come easy, props to them all for keeping it up all these years!
As a musician it's a really weird feeling to be visible right before the show starts - on one hand you want to build up your energy and adrenaline for when you really get on stage, and on the other you obviously do enjoy that contact! I've played for an audience since 1974 (not to the crowds Hetfield is used to, unfortunately 🤣🤣😭😭) and I still absolutely love it...
It's amazing they've kept it together all these years.

Toll das solche gestandenen Mannsbilder noch Respekt und Lampenfieber haben....man sieht's ihm an und das zeichnet einen tollen Künstler auf der Bühne aus ...geile Band ...geile Songs...for ever❤💯💥🥰
I got to say this is so awesome to see. He's one of my all time heroes but like the foo fighters say, he's ordinary. He's a riff machine, a talented songwriter, and a dedicated frontman but he's still just a man and there is nothing wrong with that. Thank you for making me want to pick up the ax Papa Hetfield!
thank you so much for sharing this, amazing to see my heroes off stage
Long time fan, the skill and dedication these guys exhibit is incredible. Imagine the practice required to be able to play Disposable Heroes and perform the vocals as well, purely gifted musicians.
it just goes to show no matter who you are even the best at what they do can get nervous. to have the ability to play the guitar wasn't enough for him, he also became the lead singer of a huge band! ❤
Even the top professionals feel the pressure before the show, but how James handles it, is what separates the men from the boys!

And the reason they are still around is the reverence he has for the fans, music, showmanship, perfectionism etc. Others bands have just faded and Metallica is still Fading to Black. Much respect!
still rocken and sounding great all these years later!!!!!!!
I remember James from way Back he came to see ODIN play In SF the Band came Back to our Hotel room and spent some time with us pretty cool Wish I could sing a song with him 😊
